Have you see our BLOTUS's vulgar displays of wealth? He is not called a "poor person's idea of a rich person" for nothing. https://paulmullins.wordpress.com/2016/11/22/the-triumph-of-tackiness-the-materiality-of-trump/

So California got it's first dental school just 16 years after it massacred the Chinese in Los Angeles. WOW, so amazing. Visit the diseased streets of California today!

"Almost 20 per cent of Australian honey samples found to not be pure 7.30By Adele Ferguson and Chris Gillett Updated Yesterday at 1:18pm Key points: The study tested 100 samples, including 38 Australian-branded honey samples Almost one in five of the Australian samples showed adulteration The adulterated honey was sourced from Vic, NSW, Qld and Tas The study noted a massive mismatch between the amount of Manuka honey produced in New Zealand a year — 1,700 tonnes versus 10,000 tonnes sold. Food fraud is a $US40 billion a year industry and it is getting bigger as criminal gangs exploit weak regulation and outdated government tests. Honey is the third most adulterated food in the world, behind milk and olive oil." The study, titled Authenticity and geographic origin of global honeys determined using carbon isotope ratios and trace elements, was peer reviewed and published in Scientific Reports, and provided to a joint investigation by Fairfax Media and the ABC's 7.30 ahead of its release. Food labelling laws need strengthening.
Nearly every week we are constantly being reminded why "Capitalism" cannot work. While ever greed is the motivation for our economy we will continue to see corruption sometimes on enormous scale like the banking and insurance issues we are just starting to see. I believe that only constant and enforceable regulations by government agencies with fairly tight well prosecuted laws are the answer. This should be even more strict on the larger public companies where foolish or illegal decisions by boards and senior management can have devastating consequences to the life savings and retirement monies of thousands. Fraud laws need to be tightened especially around housing development and pre sales and buy of the plan with securities and guarantees. It is quite evident that deep seated corruption is not only possible at the highest level but if left unchecked will completely take over the industry. Capitalism as sprouted by the Liberal ideology would have us slowly deregulating business instead relying on the industries to self regulate usually using outside organisations as some industries do. Medicine is a perfect example. To have a better chance of minimising corruption we need to have separation of power. That is that the overseeing organisation is independent from both the government and the financial sector. You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope some day you'll join us. It is possible.
While we agree entirely in principle the origin of the problem is Libertarianism, not Liberalism. At least that is the case here in the USA. It is Libertarians who have hijacked the fiscal policies of the Republicans and gone hogwild on DEREGULATION of corporations to the detriment of We the People. That this has spread to Australia is extremely unfortunate indeed. The reality is that ONLY the Government of We the People that is BY the People and, most importantly, FOR the People has the power to REGULATE corporations. Unfortunately corporations have effectively BRIBED our elected representatives to do away with the regulations that PROTECT We the People. Senator Bernie Sanders essentially used this despicable reality as his 2016 election platform and it resonated strongly with both Independents and ordinary Democrats. There were even some moderate Republicans who understood his message. Since that election there has been a grass roots effort to take back our government by what are termed Progressives here in America. We have record numbers of women and minorities running for elected offices at all levels of government. Hopefully this movement will succeed because the consequences of it failing are dire. We the People are responsible for our own government and unless we ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE we allow this kind of corporate deregulation to occur to our own personal detriment.
Agree. Business people complain about the stranglehold of red tape, regulations, environmental controls and unions. They need to be reminded that they are part of society and there's a downside to every safeguard which is removed. Eg- honey which is diluted with rice syrup and not only by keen businessmen from China. Food safeguards have to be the most important surely. Relaxation of import regulations can lead to deaths as in the Fonterra dairy company in China. It has also led Chinese consumers to distrust their own baby formula production so that there is a lucrative trade in formula exports from Australia. We need to be protected from unfettered capitalism!
Once upon a time I was attending a Citizens Police Academy class and they had the local Police Chief there to give a lecture. He mentioned Miranda Rights and Search Warrants and pointed out that they only came into force because the cops ABUSED their authority. The same principle applies to government "red tape". Corporations have ABUSED We the People and that is why there is now "red tape". If no corporation had ever decided to pollute the air and water there would be Environmental regulations. However when the Ohio River was catching fire from the corporate pollution it became NECESSARY to implement these regulations. The same principle applies to baby formula and honey and every other consumer product. Deregulated unfettered capitalism is a DISEASE that causes very real harm to We the People. All any business needs to do is behave like an upstanding corporate citizen and there won't be any problem. However putting PROFITS ABOVE PEOPLE is always going to result in harm of some kind.
Preaching to the converted here, DT. Laws to protect us are necessary and it's necessary that they are enforced. Like tax laws.
Only the Australian Peoples Can Stop Creeping ism spoon fed by all politicians who support globalism and "grow we must" policies selling the Aussie peoples to take a loss now but make it up on volume later philosophies. Who profits! Who loses! (psst, the people) What part do I have incorrect. Wake up! AussieLand is more of a continent than India! Find YOUR Trump and support "him". Or continue to invest in your globalist future while making the salesmen rich today Moi Hey Australia, would you like to buy a bridge in NYC? Message Moi. A foreign bridge. How globalist. Don't ize Australia
Make China Pay for quality Australian Sheep Sh*t aka Manure. The best for bountiful crops. Would they know if @LeftRightLeft was mixed in?
A Trump would fail miserably here. We have a person similar to him but she's a grifter. As posters have pointed out, we need to regulate capitalist enterprises or they'll run all over us. That doesn't take a false Messiah, it takes a government with balls.
Would a Reagan works for you. Someone who believes the Australian peoples would have the best quality of life with an "Australia FIRST" economy. Any surplus you sell to "them" and stop robbing the Australian people with Globalist propaganda. Such propaganda as "you need them". The biggest lie. AND when "they" want access to the Australian market, tax them an admission fee aka tariff. No foreign ownership. Be like Mexico. All ownership, domestic. Or at least like and tax them for the privilege of . . . . . Stop giving away your Lord given rights and land by his grace. WHO PROFITS WHEN YOU DO SO? Certainly not one who believes in the Australian nation. Moi Only the Aussies Can Prevent The ization of Australia
Not anyone remotely resembling Reagan either. In fact no political figurehead at all. We have a parliamentary system and it works well. The current party in charge is failing big time and we will boot them at the next election. In the Westminster system parliament is supreme, unlike the shocking mess at the moment in the US. Our PM is just the leader of the largest party or coalition, he or she is not directly elected to the position (a position which exists not because of a constitution but because of an observed protocol) of PM. Thus the PM has no particular electoral power as does a popularly/collegiately elected president. The PM runs the government and when it goes guts up like it is right now, he or she may retain their seat in parliament but will grace the Opposition benches when the election is lost. And for the Australians here - I would support a president appointed by parliament for the above reasons.
