Were they really? Is this an attempt to pull at people's heartstrings? Didn't AOC just announce she has Jewish ancestry?
God instructed Mary and Joseph to leave Bethlaham and travel to Egypt. With the gifts of gold, Frankincense and Myrrh, they had received , they had the resources to travel and make a life in Egypt. After a period of time Joseph and Mary were able to return to their country. None of that is similar to what is going on today.
Jesus' parents were on their way home because they were required by law to be present when the census and taxes were collected. They were the opposite of refugees. Only AOC could get something this wrong.
COnservatives just use religion as a means to discriminate. They don't actually believe in any of the goodness and selflessness jesus espoused. They're far too tribal and selfish.
hhmmmm....Matthew 2 Chapter 2 13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. 14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: 15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. Doesn't this make them "refugees" in a sense? Of course, in those days, the Romans were in control of a lot of territories, so they may not have been considered as being "illegal."
They were refugees in Egypt, in order to protect their son from Herod. Maybe you should actually read the bible sometime.
Luke Chapter 2 "1 And it came to pass in those days, there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world be enrolled -- 2 this enrollment first came to pass when Cyrenius was governor of Syria -- 3 and all were going to be enrolled, each to his proper city, 4 and Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, that is called Bethlehem, because of his being of the house and family of David, 5 to enroll himself with Mary his betrothed wife, being with child. 6 And it came to pass, in their being there, the days were fulfilled for her bringing forth, 7 and she brought forth her son -- the first-born, and wrapped him up, and laid him down in the manger, because there was not for them a place in the guest-chamber."
American Indians weren't American. They, like 'native' Mexicans and Central and South Americans were climate refugees who previously lived on the Bering Land Bridge. LBJ and the Democrats of the 1960's are the difference between historic refugees who came from Europe to build a life by assimilating into the US and working hard. There were no economic shackles, aka safety net, when they came here so they knew what they were getting into. If they didn't learn the language and synergize with the culture, they didn't work and they didn't eat. Big difference. When Johnson applied the shacks to African Americans, he also snared 'refugees' coming here for the free stuff Democrats offer in exchange for loyalty.
Jesus was a descendent of David. Therefore he was a Hebrew. Are Hebrews and Jews cut of the same cloth? I've always wondered about that. No man can enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house. Per Jesus.
We are not talking about them going to Bethlehem. If you had ever actually read the bible, you would know that right after his birth, an angel came to them and warned them that Herod would kill Jesus, and that they needed to travel to Egypt to seek refuge. They lived in Egypt for several years.
“Merry Christmas everyone - here’s to a holiday filled with happiness, family, and love for all people. (Including refugee babies in mangers + their parents),” It sounds like you're not talking about what OP is talking about, unless you think they carried baby Jesus around in an animal-feed trough for years after he was born.
Well then I suppose we will just require each refugee to bring frankincense, Myrrh, and gold with them to prove they will not be a burden on the country. But I would suggest instead to leave out the emotional outreach and instead for us to come up with a immigration plan that benefits the country.
