I was actually thinking about this after your post.
You see all these links to media resources. Some from the left, some from the right. Both refuting each others facts and putting forward alternative versions. It is endless.
Then I see the vision of Koch and Hinch absolutely bullying the sh!t out of Hanson. Everyone is yelling and screaming these days, how can they hear each other. When your mouth is open your ears are closed.

Cats I despair, because I don’t know. Its not just governments that peddle fear, it is the media both mainstream and especially social.

You are correct, the extremists are winning, mainly because they are getting notoriety. The rest of us are getting on with life or at least trying to. But we have lost our ability to listen Cats. We have lost our ability to reason, to find common ground. We have become so tribal.

It was funny, yesterday I was asked what tribe I was from by a well meaning lady from Melbourne. She meant no malice. I said Australian and kept moving. My wife shakes her head and chastises me for being rude, but quite frankly I am sick of it. Why must we always represent a minority? Irish Australian, Italian Australian, Lebenese Australian, Aboriginal Australian, and on and on we go. Why can’t we just be Australian? We are dividing ourselves and then crying foul about division.

Cats the problem is humans I’m sorry to say. We no longer respect each other.

You have a good soul, I’ve told you that before.

    Here's how I see it,

The left is so busy "ascending" they can't see the oncoming truck heading straight for them. Conservatives are pointing at the truck and telling the left to get out of the way, the left tells them "if you ascend high enough it won't hit you.

Oncoming truck being the loss of majority rights in a democracy.

    sf,
that (yours) was a good post, and I can return the compliment, as I was thinking about your comments as well.
That is us, human beings, thinking and thinking and thinking.
Will sw be right, and Islam is trying to get the upper hand wherever they move to?
I doubt it, but it certainly requires some work.
All kids in our school need to understand, that any religion is a private matter, but the rule of an open, civilized, fairly neutral democratic country like ours is and must remain number "one".

It is the way of Islam to convert all other religions. It is written. Some preach it through peace and others through fear, but make no mistake there is no room for other religions under Islam, in this SW is correct, as hard as that is to hear.

I don’t think it is a case of getting the upper hand. The religion aspires to bring us all under the one “true religion”. In their minds they are doing what is right, they are adhering to their faith. There are Christian faiths that do the same thing, but I am yet to hear of a Jehovah chopping off the head of an infidel because of non conversion.

This is the rub. They think it is rightful, how do you blame an individual who thinks they are doing the right thing?

My problem is not with the individual, it is with the ideology.

In most Christian countries Muslims are free to build mosques and worship their faith in freedom as per the law. They are free to promote and propagate their religion as per the law. Cats can you say the same about the majority of Islamic countries?

I had an argument with a bloke at a BBQ last month. Highly religious gent it comes about. It was concerning private schools of religious background and their rights to not employ or dismiss gay or transgender teachers. His view is they were contravening the anti discrimination laws concerning religion. My view is that we live in a secular state and religion plays no part in politics or law.

I completely understand SW’s concerns and fears, but that is all they are. Some on here are trying to label SW as some Muslim hating zealot, which she most obviously is not. I defend her right to her opinion as I do yours and anybody elses, without the risk of heinous and unfounded personal smears.

Debate requires listening and at least a portion of understanding. Anything else is merely shouting and point scoring, and completely counter productive to resolution.

Remember fight for the freedom of speech and self expression because without it we have nothing.

I think the underlying problem we face is that people all over the world are very worried and they really dont know which way to turn. We only have to look at the myriad of topics being discussed by forum members on all forums to realise that most of us dont really know what the future has in store.
Our politicians are very poor leaders. Our social and political commentators and "advisers" spruik their opinions but not everyone listens to them because we have developed a total lack of trust for those opinions. An expert recently advised that now is the right time to buy real estate. I fell off my chair.
Children as young as 12 I see are protesting about climate change. Whats wrong with letting them be twelve.
Obviously they are being wound up by parents and teachers who are so proud of their intellectual children and the opinions they have developed. Shouldnt they just be out there having fun as twelve year olds.
But wait, the parents have to check with the internet to ascertain how much viewing time is appropriate for their five year old and his/her hand held video game. Confusion reigns supreme.
We often hear about commentators like Koch and Newman and shake our heads at their attitudes.
Would I like to be 25 today and raising say two kids with a mortgage, or struggling to pay the rent, plus paying off my car and everything else..no way....
I dont even trust my doctor who I feel has made mistakes with my medications..long story..
Someone once told me that sometimes your strongest suit can become your main weakness.
By that I mean knowledge. We have the internet these days as a source of knowledge and information.
Sometimes too much knowledge or information will galvanise our opinions, other times it confuses us.
People are confused, worried and anxious about the way we live and the way the world is heading.
We have selective journalism and selective concerns. Sometimes something is worriesome other times
    something else doesnt really matter.
In the light of the NZ massacre I wonder how many people have totally forgotten about the plight of our
poor farmers, and the people in cyclone stricken areas. and those whose lives are destroyed by bush fires. We grieve for some and forget about others. This is sad.
I wonder sometimes how our lives would change if we just turned off the tv, turned off our mobile phones stopped reading the newspapers and just became gardeners and went fishing. I guess utopia doesnt exist for any of us. Wishful thinking.
One of my sons is a very cheerful man. For many years he has refused to watch television news, doesnt read newspapers and thoroughly enjoys his life with his wife and family.
Maybe our own lives would improve if we did this, but the world would still continue to crumble.
I feel there are very worrying and sad times ahead of us and I dont see anything improving
    any time soon.
We, as Australians tend to put up with a lot as I feel we are docile, and our leaders are simply dumbing
    us down.
I once posted about how a Qld politician was so proud that his government had introduced breakfast for children at school as they did not have a breakfast before they arrived at school.
This was in 178 schools from memory, and he proudly announced that another 200 schools would soon
be added to the list. Why wouldnt he be attempting to reduce those numbers by political means to ensure
parents of all kiddies gave their kids breakfast. This is sad. Children going to school without breakfast because of poor parenting. And then governments are left to bandaid the problem.
Children at a school near where I live get dropped off at school as early as 8am. An hour before school starts. Did they have breakfast. Probably not.
Why not. Because both parents have to work to survive and perhaps no time. Sad.
I see they are spending millions of dollars on domestic violence. Does this include seminars, where
people are brought together to discuss why marriages fail and why domestic violence occurs. Perhaps not. But emphasis seems to be on providing half way houses for those affected by dv. Isnt this shutting the gate after the horse has bolted
And then we have Bronwyn Bishop announcing that she doesnt want house prices to go down.
I would imagine all politicians with numerous investment homes would have the same opinion.
Politicians are just ned kellys in suits.
We are controlled by the elite and the oligarchs and will always be.
And they throw us crumbs at election time.
    Nothing changes.
    Nothing will ever change.
Just another whinge by billy I can hear...but thats me I guess....

Honestly just  at all this labelling

My frustration and I'm sure for many others are, that according to the left there is no room for genuine concern, any mention of the topic has to be rooted in hate.

The acknowledgement of a potential problem in Australia's future with Islam is discrimination, therefore no one is allowed to acknowledge the problem.... how do you even begin to approach the issue if you can't acknowledge the problem. And what sort of self preservation system is that? Any potential issues or threats that could be considered discrimination should be ignored... seriously is this now how our National Security works?

It will be very interesting to see what Morrison has to say to-nite on Channel 10 with his 30 minute uninterrupted discussion with Waleed Aly.
Will either of them acknowledge any type of worldwide islamic problem, or will they both just dance around
in a slow waltz and feed each other bullshit.
This is the type of discussion that could win or lose the election for Morrison, if he hasnt lost it already.
Australians will be looking for a strong leader in this discussion.
Perhaps Morrison should have Robert Spencer in his corner...but I digress.

Another interesting article from the Guardian. It appears that the alt right and indeed racism in general is not something completely new to New Zealand though he points out that this man belongs to the new kind and due to that would have been very difficult to find in advance.
Like the UK Darren Osborne this mass murderer appears to emanate from Internet Forums, that is where this hatred is allowed to fester and grow. New Zealand also seemingly has its own version of European Indentitarian or Generation Identity groups.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...-how-was-the-threat-from-the-far-right-missed

I am wondering if the Dominion Movement has anything to do with the American Christian Right. Online forums appear to be one of the main breeding grounds for these new extremists and I have certainly noticed the change on this one. Things which would have been totally unacceptable and against rules, things you would only have heard said at Stormfront ten years ago are common here now and if people complain about them now they assert that is complaining about their right to free speech.. Things that are said about Muslims would never be accepted if said about Jews but back in the 30's they were the ones in the press getting the same treatment as Muslims are on line now. I am guessing that intelligence will be keeping an eye on that on these forums now because they now know that is where the main threat of such extremism comes from. Even Robinson would have had to get a proper job now if it had not been for the internet and the Muslim haters demanding his right to free speech as well as showering him in money to indoctrinate more.

Report card for Morrison from last nites interview.....F...
I think that Morrison needs to rid himself of the condescending smirk he seems to
carry 24/7.....most would agree that his arrogant body language continues to propel him towards defeat in the election...the other polished turd, Shorten must have laughed all nite....
Both participants in the interview are as popular as a fart in an elevator, and their
jibbering about islam proved /disproved zilch.....

Your link is clearly to a Muslim hate paper. In 2015 it appeared for some reason Australia or new Zealand councils suggested everyone where the hijab for 3 hours - and this paper says that the hijab is a sign of oppression. That of course is not true. Clearly the point of them saying this is purely to promote hatred of Muslims.

You say the NZ PM has suggested men and women wear the Hijab today. The intent will be to do for Muslims what people have often done towards Jews and others who have suffered and which I think began in France possibly in the 60's. The message is 'we are all Muslims today' and is a sign of empathy and solidarity with the terror, pain and trauma that NZ Muslims have been put through.

The Hijab is a sign of oppression to some, personally I loudly cheered Iranian women who removed their Headscarves... was it a year ago? Of course they were summarily jailed 20 years for her effort

Iranian woman 'sentenced to 20 years in prison' for removing headscarf in protest
    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...adeh-headscarf-white-wednesdays-a8439816.html

In my opinion Islam's failure to move past the forced wearing of the Hijab raises serious question on women's rights, Jacinda Ardern's call for wearing the Hijab is a slap in the face to this women and others, who were jailed 20 years for daring to remove it. She clearly has no clue what some Muslim women have risked in the fight for their right to not wear it.

Women in Saudi Arabia protested against the Abaya by wearing it inside out, they dare not remove it...

Saudi women in 'inside-out abaya' protest
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-46222949

I hope Jacinda Arden enjoy playing dress up, but she better watch out, there's blood on her Hijab... and this time it's not from last Friday's horror incident

That is true but a very unusual experience where they are being forced to wear it. The hijab is a headscarf and as such no different to what a lot of Christians in particular Catholics I think wore in the west until the 70's. For a paper to suggest the hijab is oppressive in an overall sense in 2015 before the incident you are talking about happened is being dishonest. Now the person who write the article could have been ignorant, mistaking the hijab with the nijab something which many women also choose to wear so unless absolutely making clear on the unusual occasions when this may be true and to use this as was being the norm in order to protest showing solidarity to Muslims in a manner which has become traditional with people in Muslim's current position in NZ, almost certainly is still based on the intent to promote hate or indeed to show solidarity with those who have caused the terror and grief....in particular the Hijab is not oppressive in New Zealand, women wear it as part of their religion.

I did not deny that women had taken off their hijabs in Iran. I stay by the reality that for a paper to suggest they do not show solidarity for Muslims by wearing a hijab because the hijab is a symbol of oppression when it most certainly is not in New Zealand is illustrating a hatred of Islam. Muslims are the people who practice Islam so clearly of them too. I have seen people on this forum support the genocide of Muslims in Burma by saying it is all their own fault. They could have chosen not to be Muslims.

Saudi Arabia does not demand people wear a hijab. They demand they wear a full face covering., This forum is full of posts from me criticising them. This in no way justifies the massacre of New Zealand Muslims nor does it justify saying in response to a call for solidarity towards Muslims, that the hijab is offensive.

It is not about the massacre of children and others in New Zealand. Are you trying to justify the massacre - otherwise I do not know what you are doing.
