https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/05/politics/tom-graves-retirement/index.html For those interested in a broader discussion of the implications we can derive from the fact that 17 GOP Congressmen have retired between 2018 and 2020, I suggest reading this article from 538. There Are Now 17 House Republicans Retiring. What Does This Mean For 2020? The TLDR is that these decisions are largely indicative of a lack of confidence by the GOP that they will regain the House in 2020. That’s understandable, too, given the last time control of the House changed hands in a presidential cycle was 1952. But this decision by Tom Graves also indicates a specific belief by the Georgia GOP that Trump is not going to be ultimately good. And that belief is further illustrated by Governor Kemp's decision to spur Donald Trump by appointing Kelly Loeffler, instead of Doug Collins, to the Senate seat vacated by Johnny Isaakson.
Well, the D's lost Denny Heck though, so this week is a wash (so far)... Interestingly, Heck has been the only rep from the Washington 10th district since it was formed in 2012. But it's NW Washington, so that should be a D hold next year..
Also, aren't we awaiting another R resignation from the California 50th? https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2019-12-03/la-na-pol-duncan-hunter-to-resign
It doesn't really help your PCF * however... But who do you WANT to keep?? LOL... Everybody who leaves is somehow somebody you wanted to leave... magical!! * Party Corruption Factor
I rather see a pool of young talent. Term limits and an expansion of the seat number would be good to. Clinging to relics never seems to work out.
First off, this Hunter guy is only 42.... I know he's been in his office since 2009, but I'm not calling him a relic either Second... he only won that district in 2018 by 3.4% after winning it in 2016 by 27% That may have been about him Or it may not...
That's true, but in terms of the overall trend, there have been 17 GOP retires compared to 6 for the Democrats. And keep in mind that there simply fewer potential GOP retiree options after 2018.
Lots of fertile ground. Dig in deep in the House and we have a lame-duck President, as if he isn't already. He had both houses of congress for 2 years and did nothing other than pass a tax bill that ANY other republican would have passed.
