You raise an interesting point. Governments have to balance security and freedom.
Security will always be the number one priority of government. But there has to be
"sunset clauses" to a lot of this legislation - it's as dangerous as the people who want
    to kill you.

I think the Americans cracked the Iraqi WMD business.
Hussein was forced to get rid of his WMD's when the
pressure was on. Reports at the time of large truck
convoys to Syria might provide a hint - soon Syria was
using WMD's on its own people too.

Anti-Semitic in most cases doesn't REALLY concern Israel - it concerns people eating at
Kosher restaurants, worshippers at local synagogues, attacks on Hassids (many who
don't even support Israel) defacing grave stones, abusing Jewish children at schools and
so on. In other words - people finding excuses for Racism.

In the past people said they had no real hate of Jews, but there's the issue of Jesus' death,
the issue of Christian children murdered for their blood, the issue of Jews and Moslems in
mediaeval Palestine, Jews owning the land, Jews controlling the banks, Jews being Marxists,
Jews being Capitalist, Jews effecting racial purity. And so on. But of course, nothing against
    Jews as people.

Many of the safeguards put in place by the founders to protect essential liberty are either gone or being systematically removed.

I understand that there are times when the nation is in such peril that essential liberty must be "suspended" not removed.

And this is not one of those times. Where is this large enemy massing at our gates - threatening the homeland. Is "Assange" such a threat - or Russian meddling in our electoral process ?

A terror incident 911 - was used as an excuse to turn this nation from "Give me liberty or Give me Death" to "It is your Patriotic Duty to give up Essential Liberty".

The risk of harm to a US citizen from a terrorist attack is 400 times less than the risk of harm from "walking" - you heard correctly.

When this issue came up in France - Nation who gave us the Statue - the people said "we will not be trading liberty for security fk you very much".

We then went out and laid waste to Iraq - a nation who had nothing to do with the attack - and have been in Afghanistan for 19 years - a group who had nothing to do with the attack and disavowed Al Qaeda right after the incident.

We turned Iraq into a Jihadist wonderland - and did the same with Libya.

Total Military Spending in 2000 was 300 Billion - 5 times more than it needed to be to defend the homeland. After 8 years of Bush that total had increased to 900 Billion - and over 1 Trillion under Obama. Had we maintained 2000 spend levels (increasing with inflation) we could have diverted 500 Billion/yr x 16 years = 8 Trillion - to infrastructure, technology, ramping up our economy to compete in the 3rd millennium.

So back to this horrible threat - so scary that US citizens are on their knees "begging" to trade away liberty for security.

In late 2011 armed insurrection broke out in Syria. By early 2012 it was clear that the major factions in this insurrection were radical Islamist Jihadists - including - and in large part led by - the 911 terrorist group Al Qaeda.

We then decide to lead a global effort to arm, supply and support this radical Islamist Proxy army.

So lets cut the "ohhh ... Al Qaeda is so scary" .. if they are so scary then what are we doing arming them with tens of thousands of tons of sophisticated military equipment.

In Yemen we also fight on the same side as Al Qaeda.

    You on the Left?
It's funny but the Left has a double standard, or two or three.
One is this "Precautionary Principle" where we have to ban
anything that "might" cause us harm, even, as shown with
GM food, that it causes no harm at all.
But then the Left lurches into endless social experimentation
and holds strong sympathies towards the enemies of the West.
Corbyn and company were classic examples of this.
    WHAT CAN POSSIBLY GO WRONG?

You didn't mention the First Gulf War to remove Iraq from
Kuwait. Nor do you mention Bosnia - the fight to save Muslims
from being exterminated. Nor America's nuclear umbrella which
has slowed down nuclear proliferation. Or American aid. So on,
    so forth.

He may have that history. However this is all true

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...-uk-argues-legal-team.565867/#post-1071272073

This was the original charge which has led to him being held in Belmarsh under conditions which have led to more and more Doctors demanding Australia to take action as they believe his life is in danger - 100 last week.

I am sure if I wished I could find some ability you have and accuse you of some crime. That doers not mean you did it. Possibly law is so weak in the US to make the possibility someone might have committed a crime guilty but law has become very poor in the US - very few people have a trial.

    https://www.theguardian.com/media/2...ange-charged-with-computer-hacking-conspiracy

The 'evidence' the US apparently have for having Assange treated in a way which the UN Rappateur on torture is calling Prolongued Psychological Torture for which he fears for his life is the bolded and underline above

which in no way is an offer to hack but instead is simply what journalists getting information of this kind usually do - encourage those who are giving them it to get more.

There were people in American signals who could have alerted Japan to the double ambush
at Midway. Or told Hitler the allies had cracked his Enigma Codes. And I don't recall any peace
activists marching for North Korea during the Korean War or warning them of McArthur's Inchon
    attack.
Why did it take so long for truly principled people stand up to the Americans and British?

antisemetic in the UK only concerns being honest about Israel. There is no interest in what was traditionally called antisemitism. That is still practised in the main by the hard right. Statistics show that those accused of antisemitism in the UK have the lowest incidence of antisemitism in the UK - a country which itself has one of the lowest incidence of antisemitism in the world.

After the 2014 Israeli attack on the people of Gaza and the disapproval of this by people in the UK from all sections of society, a plan was put in to prove the people of the UK were gross antisemites. When one of our political parties elected a leader who believed Palestinians were human beings the same as everyone else and deserved the same rights, including the right to life as everyone else - this totally took off. The head of British Jewry are now supporting the hard right and interfered in the British election to ask people to vote for them.

There is no evidence that Julian Assange hacked into the US system. There is only evidence he encouraged Manning to get more information. For that you wish to kill him. I have little time for your haverings.

I am not on the left but, you are myopically focused on the left. This is common among people on both sides. They complain about the one side but fail to recognize the same flaws on their own side.

As stated in my previous post - the problem is "Utilitarianism" as justification for law - "If it saves one life" or "Harm Reduction"

These justifications sound good on the surface - which is what makes them so insidious. Who does not want to save one life ? "You bad person - don't you want to save one life" ?

The reality is that this is horrible justification for law.

If "If it saves one life" - is good justification for law - should we not ban skiing tomorrow - would we not save one life ?
What about boating - that is really dangerous - one could drown. Driving a car ? forget it -one of the most dangerous things a person can do.

In fact one should probably not rise from bed in the morning as one might fall and break neck - there risk of harm from "walking" if 400 times greater than the risk of harm from a terrorist act.

In a free society - one has the ability to risk a reasonable amount of harm to themselves. Utilitarianism increases Gov't power by allowing for an end run around the safeguards put in place to protect individual liberty.

and both Red and Blue Establishment love these arguments.

None of the above affects anything said in my post. Why are you trying to run from the Truth - go read it again and respond coherently.

Our nuclear weapons are why we don't need a 1 Trillion dollar annual military spend. No major superpower is going to attack the US homeland - for the same reason we are not going to attack the Russian homeland - MAD - Mutually Assured Destruction.

So who is this massive enemy at the gate - requiring this massive military spend ?

8 Trillion dollars we have thrown down the toilet since 2000 (the events you mention happened prior to this - which is why they were not mentioned) to pad the pockets of the international financiers that own the Military Industrial Complex.

The reason the US public agrees to this ridiculous spend is due to a whole lot of Establishment Propaganda - some of which you seem to have ingested leading to a desperate attempt to apologize for this spend.

Interest on our debt over this time was over 400 Billion/year (now it is over 500) - add another 6.4 Trillion to the Total - to pad the pockets of the same international financiers that own the MIC.

Our healthcare spend (2017) was 3.5 Trillion - double what other first world nations spend - all who have Universal healthcare. There is at least another 1 Trillion/yr on the table - again to pad the pockets of the same international financiers who own the Healthcare and Insurance Oligopolies.

Obamacare was lipstick on a pig - no attempt was made to address the systemic issues that have led to this massive extortion racket.

There is no evidence anyone died from his publishing and yet that claim is still made but no one can present that evidence.

There is so much BS when it comes to Assange.

He revealed war crimes and that is a no no to our govt who did it.

Next he revealed how corrupt and anti democratic the dnc was .

That is what a free press is supposed to do given power corrupts. Fascists hate a free press. Which is why msm isnt serving as a free press .

On helping manning to hack, even that allegation is sketchy.

If Assange is extradited from UK to US he could not say even a single word, believe me, he will be treated as a threat towards US sovereignty and the nation itself, the reason why he would be isolated from the media and public. Guantanamo is one of the plausible example.

All demonstrating the need for an international rules-based system, if we want to avoid all this ongoing conflict.

But your world view won't allow you to consider the necessary modification of the obsolete concept of absolute national sovereignty.

And so we have the sickening spectacle of the US seeking to crucify Assange (which they have just about achieved even if he never goes to the US) - for exposing the ugliness and criminality associated with war - while at the same time accusing China of all sorts of human rights abuses. Hypocrites.

As for Corbyn, he was caught up in the typical Right Wing ideological mythology expressed in a recent tweet from Alexander Downer: "Why do the Left hate Israel"?

leading to false 'anti-Semitic' slurs directed at Corbyn.

eg, supporting UN res 181, 194 and 242 has nothing to do with "hating Israel", though you choose to see these resolutions as such, because indeed the UNSC could not implement, defend and secure (in this case from Arab attack) the duly considered resolutions of the UNGA.....because the representatives of your world view forced a veto onto the SC....

Complete agreement with what you say in bold. In fact he is already being treated as such a threat - that is the mainline Establishment narrative - thrust upon the raging masses on a daily basis - via the Establishment owned MSM.

This is why they don't want him here to begin with - probably told the UK - "Make up Something - just get it done".

If brought here - keeping him isolated from the media and the public would be extremely difficult - and particularly uncomfortable.

You've got a good point there and I agree with you,
for unlike those who were imprisoned in Guantanamo Assange is quite of the highest profile compared to them, almost everybody in the globe knows what he did.

For those of us paying attention, it has been obvious for many long years that our justice system is a fraud. Our justice system consists for the most part of a series of Kangaroo Courts.

Recall that Manning is sitting in prison at this moment, for remaining silent before a Grand Jury.

Recall that for 30+ years the US has led the world in per capita rate of imprisonment. In our land, politicians and elected and appointed officials can commit perjury before Congress with no consequence, but ordinary citizens are given obscene sentences for petty crimes.

Many things - That the political appointees at the top - SCOTUS - remain for life -and that their appointment is on the basis of a rigged system. The Power of a Judge is enormous - even at lower levels.

These People have allowed these breeches of the safeguards - one's put in place to protect liberty - and on some level they must know it. These are not unintelligent individuals.

They have allowed Utilitarian Justification for Law to form precedent - as pretty much the sole justification. This is the most slippery of slopes which has unleashed the plague we now witness.

An "an international rules-based system" is what the UN is supposed to be.
How can Saudi Arabia agree with Iran? How can Washington agree with
Russia? How can Taiwan agree with China?
Even the august Hague could not convince China to end its nine-dash-line
    imperial ambitions with fake islands.
Corbyn et al lost simply because they pushed the Labor party too far to the
left - where only the loonies and politically naïve exist, leaving behind many
    of the traditional working class.

If only Assange was around in 1941. He might have single handedly
    ended American imperialism.
But then again, he might have exposed the Japanese and Germans?
I doubt it - Assange didn't expose the Russians or Chinese.

There is no evidence that has been submitted so far that he actually did that.

That could just be an fabricated excuse to get him into the US so he can be charged for something else.

The fascist tendency is strong, on both the Right and the Left.

Perhaps it's a tragedy of human nature, I suppose.

I wonder why Assange has been talking to Republicans saying he will prove Russia didn't hack....

    https://thehill.com/policy/cybersec...ressman-vows-to-prove-russia-did-not-leak-him

I wonder why Republican outlets like Hannity and Tucker, praise and talk up Assange?

I wonder why the "Trump Conspiracy" QAnon talks about Assange being brought back to the US to help prove Spygate and the Deep State?

    .........

Then ask yourself, Assange is tilling us he is "dying slowly", being put in solitary confinement by the United Kingdom.

    https://www.rt.com/uk/477138-assange-prison-awful-sedated-uk/

Now, UK lawyers are claiming a random treaty, saying they cannot send him to the US for "trial".

    (OP's Post)

    Think.....

The Global Deep State is real, now that the Middle East is clear of the CIA/Deep State black site proxy armies, it was time to take on the Shiite proxy armies, 90% lead by Soleimani. Now, weather the storm of what Iran does, hopefully we can support the beautiful people of Iran to rise up against the morons.

I would love to take my wife to Iran, Persian people, food, history and culture are flat out awesome.

    #MIGA

All the pieces are coming together, a brave new world is on the horizon.
