Its only up for vote because at least some of em want it to pass and think it can. You're prolly right that it won't, but clearly some of them are trying to ban guns.

Just FTR, an AK can be turned into a bolt action with a small application of silver solder. It can then quickly be turned back into a semi-auto with a hand drill.

This BS is never going to disarm Americans. Only make them clever and piss them off.

Yes, in some sort of ideal society ... if we could start over, and choose our citizens ... I might agree with you.

I'd have neighborhood-based militia, as an integral part of society's defense force. Sort of like Switzerland does.
Handguns are effectively useless in modern combat -- they're more a symbol of authority than anything else. They have
some utility in combat inside structures, but that's about it. So I would be willing to trade -- an armed citizenry, with
access to the full panoply of light-weapons infantry tools, and organized so that they could be used effectively, in return
for no .357 magnums to be used in 'domestics' when she finds lipstick on your collar.

But in the society we live in now, this is not possible. 'Banning' handguns would mean banning them from the law-abiding.
To try to enforce such a ban among the not-law-abiding, would require very vigorous stop-and-search, which would instantly
be met with a deafening chorus of "RACISM!! from our Progressive friends -- who couldn't care less about the high death rate
in the ghetto, but just want to disarm patriots.

So, it's guns all 'round, for everyone. Such are the times in which we live.

Well, let them ban everything down to a slinghot, because "ahem" unfortunately I lost all my guns and ammo in a boating accident, and so did all my friends down at the range. rats.

The right to free speech means you can't charge if you give a speech. The government may stop you from speaking of course, but if you give one it must be free of charge.

The people need guns to protect them from the government that would try to take their guns..

An assault weapons ban for example is unamerican, illegal and unpatriotic.

You cannot be an American Patriot and be for an assault weapons ban. The two things are mutually exclusive.

Then why do they try so hard all the time? Because they think there is a chance. They are wrong but that doesn't stop them. We keep telling them exactly what you said. It isn't happening. Nobody is taking anybody's guns.

I like carrying my .380 every day far more than carrying an AR everyday.

    Why the hate for CHL?

It is impossible to soundly demonstrate the necessity for, and the efficacy of, this law -- the Democrats know this and do not care, because they want to restrict the right of the people to keep and bear arms in any and every way they can.
    This is just another example.

Don't tackle the threat to your rights head on, go at it from an angle and ask your local democrat to ban these as well.

You can even use the same rhetoric as the anti gunners.
"Nobody needs a 250MPH car to go to the supermarket. The only place for such a car is on the racetrack, not the public roads. Common sense legislation would ban these cars from being sold or owned" and of course the classic "If legislation banning the sale and ownership of such cars saves the life of a single child; it's worth it"
No politician would dare to introduce such legislation. Yes it would save countless lives, but it would cost them their political career.

Don't bet on it. I've heard rumors of speed regulators being proposed here in the states and its definitely being proposed in European countries.

LINK: All New Cars To Have Speed Limiters Fitted, Rules European Parliament

It might not be in the US yet....but it will be. Give it time.

I know that here in the US they have legislation in the pipeline to have all heavy trucks limited to 65mph.
Speed limiters on cars and motorcycles will follow soon afterwards, and are long overdue.

The House would have to figure our what an assault weapon is first. Remember, they think that an AR15 weighs as much as a moving box and uses 50 cal bullets.

That was the rhetoric when concealed carry laws were starting to gain footholds in America. Gunfights in the streets, people shooting each other at drive thru fast food etc etc..

None of which came true. There are now decades of concealed carry to research. I first got mine back in 1994. Anybody who is game can try and find the predicted surge in shoutings by CHL folks. They won’t.

A .380 will cause less damage than a 9mm as a rule. The 9mm is not very “powerful” as a round itself, the .380 less so. Truth be told caliber is not nearly as important as placement in a shooting. I carry a number of guns in a number of calibers in different situations, .380 and 9mm among them. I’m not a fan of the really small .380s, they are hard to shoot well, so small as to be hard to handle quickly and with such short barrels the round loses velocity. But they do carry soooo easily as pocket carry or waistband carry. And any gun is better than no gun :)
