were any of the 20% slave owners or decedents of slave owners... how would you know

the reality is, we are all Americans and all equally responsible for Americas past, as it all happened before we were born, none of us were slaves, none of us were slave owners

I will say, if one can name the slave that was their ancestor and show proof they are a decedent, sure, spit the amount that should of went to that slave among every decedent of that slave, seems fair to me - but very few could prove that (and exempt any that had ancestors that were slave owners, as decedents of slave owners should not get reparations)

I have already addressed the issues you bring up, Fresh Air. I hate to keep saying the same thing over and over again
You and I will just have to agree to disagree. The fear of the country going bankrupt or getting into a race war doesn't make me change my mind about reparations.
Thank you for the conversation. I respect your views, I just don't agree with you.
    Have a nice day.

how much $$$ do you think you would get? after splitting it with all the other decedents? how much in addl taxes will you and your children pay for that small amount you get, assuming the country does not go bk, what would the country look like years from now with an addl 17 trillion in debt added on, is that a place we want to leave to our children

I also respect your views and hope you have a nice day, thank-you

it's definitely ok to disagree with one another, and talk about such

One last point: The descendants of the Confederates controlled the economy and politics of the South 100% until the Civil Rights movement. They kept African-Americans under their heel with a system of terrorism and intimidation.
So, no, the Confederates didn't lose.

yes, I am glad America defeated the Confederates, I am sad some on the right still support their memory and dream of it's return if we ever go bk and have to start over as a new country

My idea of reparations would be efforts to change the culture rather than individual compensation. Here is another example
Living in poverty is stressful. Children in poverty experience chronic stress which raises cortisol levels which in turn changes brain structure. These children may exhibit poor emotional and impulse control, little foresight, hyper vigilance, ADHD and learning disabilities. They come from a home not intellectually stimulating with poor language skills. All of this spells doom for academic success. They drop out or squeak through high school and repeat the process with their children.
What can change that is family centered social services, early high quality day care, smaller class sizes and not ghettoizing section 8 housing; that is mixing it in with middle class housing.

Racism...maybe on your part. Plenty of AA business people have proven you wrong. You give them no credit. Asians are the most successful race in the US...doesn't that mean by your statement that we are all inferior and should shut racist Asians keeping the rest of us down?

Efforts to change the culture is NOT reparations.
So, I have no comment to your post.

this is as true for many white families as it is true for black families, also diet plays a role, our current high carb processed food diets is part of the reason for the increase in narcissism and other mental illnesses in this country I believe

but it is, affirmative action is a form of reparations for the wrongs of the past against a group of people

I think affirmative action helped raise black families up from a poorer culture, without it, I do not think America would have come as far as we have

I think low wages though are bringing the country down again, both blacks and whites, as were all in this together

Did you know that Affirmative Action has benefited White women even more than African-Americans?
While Affirmative Action is a great program, most African-Americans I know haven't used it. My daughter, my granddaughter and I all attended college without the help of Affirmative Action. Didn't need it to get jobs either.

you wouldn't know if anyone uses it, when a business puts out their requests, they say everyone qualifies, even if they are only looking for affirmative action hire

it's not something you sign up for, it just is

no one is told why they are not hired or that their minority status is part of the reason they were hired

I can say, I did not get any discounts for my daughter in college either.... growing up poor though, I am just happy I could afford it

Yes, I worked as a teacher's aide for Head Start for a short time. Also, I grew up in poverty.
So, I know a little bit about being poor. That's why I want African-Americans to receive reparations. That will help them get out of poverty. It's about money. It's not about culture, no matter how badly you want to make it about culture. I can tell from your posts that you know very little about the true culture of African-Americans anyway.
I must sign off for tonight. Talk to you later. Take care and stay safe.

It is much more justifiable to base any public assistance on I.Q. than on the ambiguous term 'race' (there being, after all, only one; the human race).

Sooo glad that you're on the board ..., Moriah! I'm not for reparations, per se, but I agree with everything else that you said!!! I'm going to have some more links, as a shout out to you.

Then explain, in precise detail, exactly what form said reparations should take, that will ultimately serve to make up for the history of the united states itself. Explain exactly what can be done to undo the supposed nature of the racist system itself, and bring the country to the point where the black community no longer has any excuse for its own lack of success and advancement.
