U.N. investigators link U.S., Syrian and Russian forces to war crimes - Reuters

UN Accuses US-Allied Forces of War Crimes in Syria

"What is clear from the military campaign is that pro-government forces and UN-designated terrorists flagrantly violated the laws of war and the rights of Syrian civilians."

Fresh evidence of war crimes committed by all sides in Syrian conflict, probe finds

In late 2011, US-allied powers attacked Syria with a terrorist army, via CIA operation Timber Sycamore.

In Southern Turkey, CIA officials were "helping allies decide which Syrian opposition fighters" would receive arms. A 2012 classified US intelligence assessments showed that most Saudi and Qatari arms went to "hard-line Islamic jihadists". In 2017, the State Department was unable to identify a single "moderate" rebel group that was receiving Western support. Thus rebel-held areas were "dotted with Islamic courts staffed by lawyers and clerics," who want to "infuse Islamic law into a future Syrian government".

"As for the ‘moderate rebel force'” the CIA program was supposed to organize:

In north Syria, in "the revolution’s center of gravity, CIA-backed northern rebels were mostly backfilling for either the Nusra Front or Ahrar al-Sham, an Islamist movement-opposition faction and Nusra’s erstwhile ally." Moreover, the genocidal "Islamic State burst out of the opposition’s chest."

"No one on the ground believes in this mission or this effort", former Green Beret Jack Murphy writes of the US's covert programs to train and arm Syrian insurgents, "they know we are just training the next generation of jihadis, so they are sabotaging it by saying, ‘**** it, who cares?’". "I don’t want to be responsible for Nusra guys saying they were trained by Americans," the Green Beret added.

"The FSA [the alleged “moderates” of the Free Syria Army] made for a viable partner force for the CIA on the surface, as they were anti-regime, ostensibly having the same goal as the seventh floor at Langley"– i.e. the ousting of President Assad. But in practice, as Murphy explains: “distinguishing between the FSA and al-Nusra is impossible, because they are virtually the same organization. As early as 2013, FSA commanders were defecting with their entire units to join al-Nusra. There, they still retain the FSA monicker, but it is merely for show, to give the appearance of secularism so they can maintain access to weaponry provided by the CIA and Saudi intelligence services. The reality is that the FSA is little more than a cover for the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra."

A senior White House official told The Washington Post that the Obama administration had accepted the fact it was "to some extent inevitable" that U.S. weapons would end up in terrorist hands. “Certainly, ISIS has been able to expand in Syria, but that’s not our main objective," a senior White House official said. "I wouldn’t call Syria a safe haven for ISIL, but it is a place where it’s easier for them to organize, plan, and seek shelter than it is in Iraq." In other words, Syria was a safe haven because, as the Wall Street Journal explained, the U.S. would not interfere in any way that might "tip the balance of power toward Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who is fighting Islamic State and other rebels."

Small consolation that Bush & Co were convicted of war crimes in 2014.

Slim chance of Obama and Trump being convicted for the same.

No chance at all of Israel being convicted.

Correction. it was a senior US defense official who said this:

“Certainly, ISIS has been able to expand in Syria, but that’s not our main objective," a senior White House official said.

    Link added to last line:

In other words, Syria was a safe haven because, as the Wall Street Journal explained, the U.S. would not interfere in any way that might "tip the balance of power toward Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who is fighting Islamic State and other rebels."

Ah, more UN rubbish, pretending that 'grand coalition' made up of a majority of gangsters, thugs, and genocidal Islamists actually has credibility. Why not just run around advocating putting North Korea in charge of the planet? Your peers would love you all the more.
