Well gosh darn golly and gee ****ing whiz. Never saw this coming. Who'd of thunk this would be the end results of defunding police? Color me shocked, SHOCKED I tell you.

"Minneapolis City Council members, who just two months ago moved to eliminate the police department, sounded the alarm during a Wednesday meeting about a surge in crime seen by their constituents."

"Council members pressed police Chief Medaria Arradondo about the uptick in crimes that included daylight carjackings, robberies, assaults, shootings and street racing.

“Residents are asking, ‘Where are the police?’” said Council Member Jamal Osman, noting that constituents' calls to the Minneapolis Police Department have gone unanswered. "That is the only public safety option they have at the moment. MPD. They rely on MPD. And they are saying they are nowhere to be found"

Wait, what? Are you saying less police equates to more crime? Who'd have guessed! ROFL. These people with their idiotic ideas and their virtue signaling are their own worst enemies ---- we can only hope people are waking up and seeing this, before they idiotically vote for more of it.

I wouldn't count on that happening. Leftist are all in on defunding police even though it's obvious the "thin blue line" is a real thing and the only thing that keeps us out of the jungle.

As one who lives in the area, I was fascinated by the public comments on the story. Few of the hundreds of comments supported the City Clowncils position of defunding and dismantling of the MPD. Maybe some of the residents were getting tired of having to pay a ransom just to be allowed to leave their own alley's.
The MPD's police chief was far to reserved in his comments to that band of asshats especially to Jeremiah Ellison son of serial woman abuser and George Soros funded MN Atty General Keith Ellison, declared that the increase in crime was showing proof that the police department needed to be dismantled.

On the bright side, the man child mayor of Minneapolis Jacob Fry who's inaction fueled the rioting that spread all across the United States, while another teenager was being shot and a highjacked car was flipping over in an alley, ignoring the murder rate in the first nine months in his city has exceeded all of 2019, was tweeting out a picture of the sunset commenting on how we should stop Globull warming.
These idiots don't even have a clue.

Biden kind of backpedaled on defunding the police, so they must be getting the message via some kind of polling somehow, so maybe all hope is not lost..... (Of course Biden flip flops more than a fish out of water, so who knows where he stands from one poll to another one day to another.)

Just to be clear, the city council didn't just yank the police department's funding a couple months ago. Rather, they created a ballot measure to replace the police department with a community safety deparment. That measure will be voted on in Novemenber. In the mean time, the MPD are being a bunch of babies and failing to do the job they currently still have, and may still have in the future if the ballot measure fails.

Gee, I wonder why the city would want to replace such a fine, upstanding department of mature people who take safety and crime so seriously with something else. /s

Just to be clear cops are quitting in mass.

"Arradondo said about 100 officers have left the department or have taken a leave of absence since the start of the year, "

    An here is why.

"The council had pledged earlier in the summer to dismantle the police department and replace it with a community-based system of public safety."

In July, the council took several steps toward dismantling the city's police department, including approving an amendment to remove $1 million from the police department "

Yeah, the council put up a ballot measure and those "brave boys in blue" decided to throw a tantrum and quit like children. That'll show the folks of Minneapolis just how deserving the officers are of keeping their jobs!

Anyone who thinks that "defunding" the police or "eliminating" the police department means completely getting rid of any law enforcement just shows they can't be bothered to read beyond headlines and sensationalized news. That goes for the toddler-brained police in Minneapolis and elsewhere who are quitting, and for people on this board. Y'all hear a chant or see a headline about reigning in police power and act like criminals are going to be allowed to run amok. It's pathetic.

The city council took a million dollars from the police budget. Cops are not stupid and saw the handwriting on the wall. Layoffs, reduced hours, no raise in salary, shoddy equipment. Time to seek employment in a red city that respects and supports it's police officers.

That's less than 1% of the police department's budget and it was part of an overall attempt to cut over $150 million from the city's budget (link). Those cuts probably were larger than they would have been if the Floyd death and protests hadn't happened, but they definitely still would have faced cuts. This is like if the company you worked for had to cut everyone's salary by $100 and they cut yours by $150 because your last performance review was bad.

FFS, take 30 extra seconds and read beyond a *******n headline.

The police force was already underfunded. Taking a million away was the straw that broke the camels back. There's also the psychological impact on cops who are human beings and want and deserve respect. What they got here was disrespectful. Time to move on to a red city where risking your life daily is appreciated and your calling them babies just proves my point.

    And don't forget the following.

The council had pledged earlier in the summer to dismantle the police department and replace it with a community-based system of public safety."

How do you know $190 million for a police force of that size is "underfunded?" I don't accept your claim without some evidence and analysis.

Also, I should amend what I said about them acting like babies. Any of them who quit in protest of how things have been in the past, I fully respect that. If the Floyd death made them realize that they couldn't work for an organization that appears to be so indifferent to civil rights and human life, good on them. The ones who quit because the status quo is being threatened are absolutely acting like children, though. When a malicious, callous death is perpetrated by multiple members of an organization acting as agents of that organization, the result should be scrutiny and change. Adults know that, babies don't.

Here’s what you studiously avoid and is the bottom line.

Thanks to slick willy and "do gooder" church organizations there are now 80,000 Somalis in the Twin City area. I wonder if that is part of the problem.

I already addressed that, in a post you responded to. They put up a ballot measure. It has to be voted on. Stop acting lazy and read beyond the headline. I don't have time to waste going in circles with people who can't remember what they read and posted an hour ago.

Run if you like but it shows the all important city council of this blue city has no respect for its police department and if it gets its way will totally dismantle it. They already took a million dollars from its budget and cops are looking for greener pastures for employment as in red cities

The THIRD Thread About This SAME Thing?

    Yesterday 3:38 PM:

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...ity-council-asks-where-are-the-police.578477/

THEN, Apparently One Thread Wasn't Enough:

    Today 2:23 AM:

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...ncil-members-complain-of-rising-crime.578505/

    NOW, This Thread?

Are there any predictions on when the 4TH Thread (on this Exact Topic) Will Be Started?

Anyway, I will admit, having the Forum Cluttered Up with 3 Duplicate (Redundant) Threads has gotten my attention.

So, I have read the article and I am willing to offer a comment relevant to the subject matter:

It seems that there are only 2 feasible solutions (for people affected) by this "Rise in Crime":

    1) Minneapolis needs to hire more Cops (who actually know how to do their jobs) and enforce the law.

The Minneapolis Cops need to find an acceptable middle-ground (in enforcement) that lies between the extremes of No Police and the Murder of George Floyd.

    2) Anyone who feels "unsafe" in Minneapolis should move somewhere else (where they "feel safe").

    ^Problem solved.:flagus:

Keep repeating the same one-liner, proving that you're either unwilling or incapable of actually understanding what's happening.

The situation is abusive. Cops go out and put their lives and wellbeing on the line each time they stop a suspect from a bad deed, or make an arrest. They risk being charged with murder by simply protecting themselves or others.

BLM and other cop haters dont care about the lives of police officers. And they and outright criminals are emboldened by the city councils hatred of police.

You have a city council that has shown extreme contempt for police, demonize them and stands ready to crucify at the say so of activists.

And in that environment police officers should give it their all?

Culture is everything. People work in the culture created by management. City managers made this bed.

Trying to reform something that is broken isn't hatred. I agree that culture is everything, and people are trying to change that culture. If police officers can't rise to the image they want us to have of them, then they are better off quitting and we're better off for it.

If you want to dismantle the police, you have hatred of the police. And that hatred is still there as these worthless councilors, who offer NO support to the police, demand cops put their livelihoods and lives on the line....like I said...its an abusive situation.
