This might have saved thousands of lives. Tell me why Trump should not be tried at The Hague for crimes against humanity as opposed to running for a 2nd term.

You are aware that many, MANY places have baskets of free disposable masks for the taking, and have since the first time they were recommended?

Once again, sending masks to 'all households' does not ensure they would use them, or sell them for personal gain. Having them available upon request, or at the facility they are visiting, means they are actually being used.

good grief, those who wanted to wear the masks could have used underwear or anything. What's next, if the fed govt doesn't send toilet paper then none of us will be able to wipe our butts?

Democrat voters keep lobbing anything as we near election day

    Uh, no.

Masks were not present of baskets of "free masks" all around the country.

Masks were in desperately short supply for months, and it was only a month ago China got their production back up so 3 micron masks are generally available. American marketing wins again!

    So?

Its not sure to "ensure" to their use, but many will.

And the savings from avoiding those illnesses are alone would save enormous money!

Oh, wait, some people might sell extra masks! Oh, NO!

That is the usual idiotic reason that Republicans say its better to kill many to ensure someone just might resell a 50 cent mask!

Dr. Fauci was the one repeatedly telling people not to wear masks. He lied for fear of hoarding. If you think this is a crime against humanity, then at least point fingers at the medical experts.

He could just as easily told people not to buy N95's or other mask designated as "medical" due to the shortages at the time, but recommended any sort of other manufactured or homemade face covering.

The Task Force was working and making recommendations independent of Trump. If you're certain that masks would save the world, blame the right people.

Maybe the 600Million they sent to other places like prisons saved lives.

I don't think I agree with bringing the Hague into the picture. I am not aware of anyone prosecuting over incompetence, and besides, he is likely to spend the rest of his life in court facing numerous charges and suits. Like the one Mary just hit him with.

Fauci had to do the best he could with what he had to work with. If the medical system collapsed, it would have been a lot worse.

Trump propaganda is always looking to excuse Trump's many failures. But, seriously, he did so much worse than any other leader in any other developed country; it's inescapable.

Everyone has done the best they could with what they had to work with and if China hadn't hoarded supplies then many countries wouldn't have been left with shortage. All countries hoarded what they had for their own citizens though and some countries (like Germany) had stockpiles for an emergency health crisis.

Trump didn't do "so much worse than any other leader". That's an exaggeration. We are not the best nor the worst. Barring Fauci lying about masks, we have done the best we can with what we had just like everyone else.

As soon as masks were recommended, yes, they were available. Some were basic masks like one would wear when woodworking, some were one layer cloth (made by the local senior center here) and any that they were able to obtain.

Perhaps you live in an area that didn't bother, but I do.

Canada has half the death rate, there are countries in Europe with LESS than 1/10th the death rate.

We have a better medical system than Canada, and we are fresh out of excuses.

Regarding Covid and the wearing of masks, Fauci, Tedros, Gates and Redfield should be tried for crimes against humanity. In the name of a virus they engineered they have wrecked the lives of many people.

Forcing people to wear a mask over a virus no worse than the flu is illegal and immoral.

What a waste of time and money it would be to send silly masks to every US household.

Yes, we should all believe a woman looking to capitalize on a familial tie to a famous person, and other wealthy relatives. Desperate times, desperate measures I guess. Itz a conspiracy I tellz ya, a conspiracy!!

So if Trump 'did so much worse', then exactly what should have been done differently, since the experts in the field were running blind with a novel virus? What physic ability was Trump to have to know what to do (advised by experts), and when to do it, other than what he actually did and was haranged for?

He was far from perfect, but so was everybody. Didn't like the fact that he didn't say "We're all gonna die!' and instead tried to relay a 'Stay Calm' attitude?

So? I can name 1st world countries who have fared much worse than the U.S. Pointing out countries which have fared better and ignoring others is meaningless.

I'm on the fence about whether masks are effective or not effective. There are medical experts on both sides of the argument. I do think that if Fauci was "pro" on the benefits of masks (rightly or wrongly), then he definitely lied to us for months.

Today the buzz is around the "variolation" benefits of masks. The theory is that wearing masks gives people smaller doses of the virus and produces a higher number of mild and asymptomatic cases. That leads to faster herd immunity, takes away the need for broad lockdowns and is effective if people do get out of the house and increase exposure. To that end, I'm more than happy to compromise and wear a mask if they lift all the lock downs.

That is certainly your choice, and anybody else's choice as well. I do not object to people wearing masks, but as time goes on it is certainly a source of amusement and discussion.

Yesterday while driving on a very nice and upscale beach road, I observed a young lady walking her dog on the sidewalk. The breeze was very fresh there was nobody else within hundreds of feet from her, and she's wearing a mask and texting on her phone. I could only laugh.

That is an interesting notion regarding 'variolation'. Another theory that cannot be proved either way. In the US since 1946, through 2014, there have been dozens of lab tests conducted regarding the efficacy of face masks in preventing the airborne transmission of the flu virus.

The consensus of all those tests was that it cannot be established that masks have any effect at all on the airborne transmission of flu virus.

I am not offended by others wearing masks. Rather I am amused these days, and I am greatly saddened seeing young children being so conditioned.

I used to think the term “nanny state” was mildly hyperbolic. Now we’ve blown past “wet nurse state” and I m not even sure where we are now. Maybe “prepartum state”?

Because rational, reasoned people would never suggest, much less support, such a thing.

    1) She got hold of the family records... Well, at least she did on this planet.

    2) He didn't follow protocol, and he is still messing with the experts. It's been said here a few hundred times. Pay attention.

    3) Again, the numbers tell a very different story. But you're gonna run away from the obvious again.

It's sad that Trump can't understand that you can be honest and still promote calm. It's even more sad that so many his followers don't understand that. There are options aside from "lie your ass off" and "everyone panic." Anyone who doesn't understand that doesn't deserve, and isn't competent for, ANY kind of leadership position.

    So name them.

I posted the same damn chart a dozen times that shows our curve far above that of most other countries.

I have a closet full of cloth, uh, more than one; why exactly do we need the government to send us more? Or do you need scissors?

2 layers of cloth does not work as well as regular (not N95) masks.

No , he should be given the Medal of Freedom for protecting us from another socialist program. Is there anything you guys are willing to pay for? Are we raising a nation of wimps or people so helpless they don't know how to do things for themselves?
