That's not what I meant. Trump was President. Republicans held the Senate and the House. But they did not expand and pack the court. They filled the vacancies as they came.

they banned Obama from getting his last supreme court nomination and they stole Biden's first.

if the GOP wants to play like that, all bets are off.

they changed the votes to 50 and they denied Obama during an election year, but allowed Trump

dems will do the same, they will add seats and fill them with 50 votes, all within the rules

Dems should add two Liberal judges to the court.

GOP can then fill them with Conservatives when they retire or die in 40 years.

    :p

Republicans have been packing the courts for several decades. The way they treated Obama's last nominee, then went against their own reasoning to confirm the recent Trump nominee--completely self-serving, dishonest, insincerity--shows their lack of commitment toward functioning together in the governance of our country. With this attitude, America loses.

You changing the definition of words now?

You know damn well the Republicans just filled seats when available. You shouldn't of nominated Obama and Hillary Clinton

Democrats have to fight fire with fire.

the GOP-run Senate has lost all integrity.

we have no choice but to add two more Liberal judges.

Democrats have NEVER denied a Republican President the ability to nominate a supreme court justice in their last year.

WASHINGTON – It was a Senate filibuster that did justice to all the celluloid versions and spirited talkathons of bygone years. New York Sen. Alfonse D'Amato (search) chattered, crooned "South of the Border," answered questions from a visiting colleague around 3 a.m., recited names and controlled all Senate business for 15 hours, 14 minutes.

The issue was parochial for the Republican just weeks before a tough re-election contest in a Democratic-leaning state - the fate of a small typewriter company in Cortland, N.Y.

    The year was 1992.

No worries, neither party filibusters anyway. So, get rid of it.

Nothing requires 60 votes to pass.
60 votes are needed to end a filibuster. 1992 was the last filibuster?

Prior to this year, when was the last time that particular scenario arose?

Not providing advice and consent to Obama. They had every right to vote no but they had to VOTE. By rights their abstention should have resulted in the position being filled by default, as it's by presidential appointment and the vote is simply the traditional way of providing advice and consent. If congress just shrugs it's shoulders at an appointment, the appointment should just go thru by a strict reading of the Constitution. That didn't happen, the Repubs violated their Constitutional duty (until it was to their benefit, then their 'rules' went out the window) and are now whining that Biden is promising to punish them for it.

Abuse by Republicans? Of course you limit this to the past 15 years. Why is that I wonder? Is it possibly because Democrats hold the record for the longest filibuster in US history? When they opposed the Civil Rights Act. Lasted 60 days.

As for your claim that the filibuster was never intended as a means to simply kill legislation....that is actually its very purpose. Politicians from both sides of the aisle have used it. Know how many used their filibuster time? They did anything from reading the names in a phone book to reciting cooking recipes to reading Shakespeare and even Green Eggs & Ham from Dr. Seuss. And its been going on for well over a century. In fact it started in 1806 and the first successful filibuster was in 1837 when a group of Whig senators who opposed President Andrew Jackson filibustered to prevent Jackson’s allies from expunging a resolution of censure against him.
