Similar people stormed the capital in Oregon last month and again today. There are people associated with the anti fascists who are saying this is what happens when fascists are encouraged. Here in Oregon the violent right wing gangs lately have been railing against the restrictions due to the virus, in spite of the fact that Oregon restrictions have resulted in one of lowest rates of infection in the country.

I have been seeing this kind around the country since at least the nineties. At first just a few, here and there, lately though, more have come out of their holes. They are often recognized by their Mad Max inspired attire, often accessorized with patriotic themes. In many ways, like the ones in Colorado, they began as skinheads in their teens, many spent time in prison for one felon or another, grew up, got a wife and kids. Then along came the Trump to stir up the glory of their youth, to give them affirmation and a club to belong to. To be greater than themselves. Just as many are edging into the early stages of a midlife crises. Like the man shot in Denver. It was claimed he was a family man with a house, a steady job, and kids. Yet there he was, at a rally in Denver, where protestors were protesting police brutality, spraying bear spray at protestors.

I think this movement will stay with us for awhile, but it will not lead to a revolution, or even anything close. Revolutions tend to be led by upper middle class intellectuals and fought by young idealists roped into the cause. This current crop of thuggery is unguided with many of their members being from their mid thirties to their early fifties. You can see it in their attack on the capital. It is as if they had no real plan beyond getting inside the building. On film, they are quite aggressive getting in, but once in, stood around, as if tourists without a tour guide. But then, that may be due to the good work of the security at the Capital. Let the rioters into an evacuated building and wait for backup to arrive. Let them roam around the Capital where plenty of security cameras can document the perpetrators.

In any case, I think that Trump should be isolated and removed from power. I heard on the news that Twitter and other social platforms were blocking Trump. Also, that there seems to be an agreement in the military to not obey Trump, unless there really was a threat. And you know, they would know it well before Trump. If Trump is not punished in some way, possibly by jail time or banishment, then there will be others to follow. Possibly someone with considerable more intelligence, could succeed, if not deterred by the threat of example.
