The "tyrant" in the nation is the unbalanced 'sovereignty of the individual' meme of Conservatives.

Community cohesion and well-being cannot be achieved by unbalanced individualism among naturally self-interested and competitive individuals.

No wonder AOC, who along with Bernie proposes "an economy that works for all", freaks your little Conservative, classical liberal brains out.

She was in her office, not in the Capitol Building. She said that at 1:01PM, someone in her office she called "G" told her to run and hide. She went to the bathroom and shut the door. She heard pounding, pounding, pounding, then some man yelling, "Where is she? Where is she?" She cracked the bathroom door and had to "look through the hinges" on not one, but two doors to see a white man in a black beanie yelling "Where is she? Where is she?". Then..."G" told her to it was safe to come out. (Why wasn't he hiding the whole time?) She came out and the scary man was a Capitol Police.

She was very specific about the time, 1:01PM. The people in the Capitol Building, who actually were under a real threat, did not even know anything was happening until after 2:00PM, when the rioters started breaching the Capitol Building.

Totally dramatic story. Every AOC "story" is all about AOC and trauma drama. She invented a very long narrative to tell the story that a Capitol Policeman came to check on her safety.

..like threatening the members in congress on the 6th....?

The real tyrant in the room is the classical-liberal-derived "sovereignty of the individual"
meme, placed over and above community cohesion and well-being, thereby fostering an unbalanced individualism in naturally competitive and self-interested individuals.

    Was it invention?

In any case, your classical-liberal-derived "sovereignty of the individual" Conservatism is THE source of the hyper-partisanship in Western democracies.. that led to the Capitol riots.

Individuals are naturally competitive and self-interested; AOC's crime (in conservative eyes) seems to be her influential support of Bernie's proposal for "an economy that works for all".

    Pity about that....

Biased media and politicians are the source of hyper-partisanship which led both to all the destruction caused by this summer's anarchist BLM/Antifa riots and the Capitol breach by extreme right-wing anarchists. Media has shoved the wedge so deep into the country that the anarchist fringe on both ends are behaving badly and acting out.

Individuals are naturally competitive and self-interested. That is why sovereignty of the individual is obviously the better choice to achieve an economy that works for all.

Classic liberals are a group of individuals who choose to operate as a collective when the synergy and cooperation produces a better outcome.

Neo-liberals are a collective which attempts to force all individuals to comply within a prescribed set of strict authoritarian rules.

Square pegs will never be forced to fit into round holes. There will always be all shapes and sizes of pegs and holes where sovereign individuals can find a best fit without being forced. There is nothing pitiful about that.

INVASION? How far are you actually willing to take this narrative? NONE of those people fired a weapon or attacked anyone with a weapon. Those who got roughed up weren't assaulted with the intent to kill, they were being pushed out of the way. I'm hearing jackals online who are demanding these people be tried for insurrection or sedition. Mostly from the same political camp that all but cheered the destruction of private businesses and government facilities. FOUR of those protesters paid for that with their OWN LIVES. During our summer of vengeance for the mistreatment that lead to the death of a black man with a serious history of criminal activity and drug abuse, more than 50 people died. FIFTY. Hundreds of businesses were intentionally burned with no care of the consequences for anyone. Most of the Blue cities refused to arrest rioters OR released them without indictment.
This arrogant, blatant double standard you folks have enjoyed at the expense of the rest of America is about OVER. It really would be well for the nation if the PTB up there think carefully before they decide to make some kind of "example" against Americans who were guilty of nothing more than a protest that got too rowdy.
Handing out maximum prison time or economically ruinous fines, especially for ANYONE they don't have clear evidence against, is apt to lead to more unrest.
This nation has gone through 4 years of constant media agitation against Trump and those who dared to vote for him. Now we're seeing that same propaganda activity being ramped up, seemingly in preparation for some action against those who supported him. They really need to understand that about half the nation isn't going to give a damn if the media wraps their BS lies in the flag. We've seen it all before and we aren't having any more of it.
This is ME sharing an OPINION. It isn't a THREAT to anyone. It isn't a call for violence. It is an assessment of where this nation is headed. You are free to disagree and we'll watch to see who was correct, shall we?

Biased? I'm hear to explain the root of these "biases".

Let's see if we can make progress here.

Do we want everyone to to be able to contribute, and be rewarded at above-poverty-level (at a minimum) - achievable since the resources exist to enable the nation to achieve this desirable outcome?

Will you argue this is not a desirable outcome, even though the resources and productive capacity exist to allow it?
ie, everyone working, and being rewarded at above poverty level (at a minimum).

Meanwhile you need to explain how naturally competitive and self-interested individuals - with widely differing natural capacities - can achieve "an economy that works for all" in a free market, without government implementation of a Job Guarantee.

..so classical liberals " choose to cooperate"....."when they perceive a better outcome".....FOR THEMSELVES (being naturally competitive and self-interested); that's the source of hyper-partisanship right there. Those who can't participate in the "synergy and co-operation" - BECAUSE the free market left to its own devices naturally devalues their contribution - are left by the way-side. That's the result of an un-regulated competition; winner and losers.

    neoliberal (def.)
    1. favouring policies that promote free-market capitalism, deregulation, and reduction in government spending.
    2. an advocate or supporter of free-market capitalism, deregulation, and reduction in government spending.
Does that disabuse you of your little ideological narrative about collectives?

People are not "square" or "round" pegs.

You confirm my proposition that the unbalanced sovereignty of the individual meme - over and above community cohesion and well-being, is destructive of that desirable state.

    Pitiful....

I really don't know which is worse...that so many of you actually believe this fantasy still or the arrogance you express that belief with.
Government taking the fruits of the labor of one group and giving the benefit to millions who do not labor BUT WHO COULD, NEVER ends well. NEVER.
I have a compromise to offer. Why don't we just sit down with our state legislators and identify which other states we share a common bond with. Primarily, a desire, a demand, that our law be based on the U.S. Constitution. Then those states can get together and form a union that listens to all the people and creates a society that truly IS based on laws and not men. It's a perfect solution. Cali, New York, Illinois can pass any legislation they agree on. They can feel free to be as repressive of traditional rights as they want with no complaints. How would that be?

Yeah...well maybe you should speak to your friends who bashed in the head of the Capitol policeman who died...or those who were injured. I figure less than a thousand will be prosecuted. Most on minor charges. Maybe a third will receive more serious charges and jail time. A few will get some serious jail time...for everything from breaking and entering, theft, attacking federal law enforcement officers, sedition and insurrection and, of course, murder. If there is sufficient evidence to indict for a conspiracy, I guess the number will be less than a hundred...some from within the ranks of the Capitol Police themselves, some in other law enforcement agencies, a few advisors and donars and maybe a half dozen from the White House itself.

A really stupid, stupid thing to try. Did they really think Pence was going to break the law and hand Trump another term? Insane. Condolences to the families of those were killed and to the injured.

Let's see if you can bear looking at the reasons for the political hyper-partisanship tearing the nation's fabric:

Your classical-liberal-derived "sovereignty of the individual" Conservatism is THE source of the hyper-partisanship in Western democracies.. that led to the Capitol riots.

Individuals are naturally competitive and self-interested; AOC's crime (in conservative eyes) seems to be her influential support of Bernie's proposal for "an economy that works for all", which will require government intervention in free markets....free markets which naturally bid the price of the most competitive citizens ever higher while the least competitive are devalued down to below poverty level.

Courtesy of the sovereignty of the (self-interested, competitive) individual.

Meanwhile Biden is looking to replace Trump's national unilateralism ("America First") with co-operative multi-lateralism, in the international sphere.

You can do that with enough votes...by calling a new Constitutional Convention to amend the Constitution and then dissolve the Union. Try and use violence to secede and it's called Civil War.

You realize that if the Blue states separated from the Red, that they would take the lion's share of the GDP, all the west coast sea ports,
the world's financial centers (NYC and Chicago) and many of the highest rated Universities and the Tech centers that
have powered the US economy for the last three decades, right? And you Reds would get 4 of the highest welfare states in Louisiana, Miss., Alabama, and Oklahoma, right?

    Want to try again?

Hmm...the Chinese actually settled that question - ie, who is "rewarded by the fruits of their labor" - via a civil war in 1949.

Until you settle that question in a more just manner in the US , with its entrenched poverty, people working two jobs to make ends meet, spiraling inequality, and $billions earned while people are asleep, the US will be wracked by continuing political hyper-partisanship.

    "It's the economy, stupid"...

Make sure it works for everyone.

(see post #87 above, for the CAUSES of the current economic malaise in the US).

I said not a word against working people. Nor did I advocate for huge inequity from business owners. Your language, while it may sound wonderful, is used by the Left to pass legislation that does nothing to create a more "just" economy or world. It's putting lipstick on the Pig of socialism. A safety net for the truly needy and a continuing dialog within government to attempt to create an environment that is conducive to business such that investors will create JOBS for people is the best we can do. Taking from one group to give to others whose only contribution to the country is their vote, is not sustainable. Hopefully, we can avoid Civil War or internal collapse but unless we begin talking instead of demanding, it isn't looking promising.

Good luck with that. You're actually here to explain your opinion just like everyone else. I believe the division is born from media's desire to make a profit. The red meat of sowing hate and division is more profitable than peace and unity. You disagree. That's fair.

Sure, we want everyone to be able to contribute, but some people are not capable of contributing. We can improve the number of contributors with better education through expanding school choice and quality cirriculum starting at elementary level, and a few other areas we can improve, but some people will never have the innate capacity to contribute. Are we making progress yet?

"Everyone working" is a pipe dream. A "jobs guarantee" is also impossible, unless you just want some people to dig holes and then fill them back up, or count from 1 to 2 repeatedly and call that a contributing "job". Individuals who have the best skills, abilities, talents and motivation rise to the top of the private sector and provide jobs to everyone else, each according to the capability and motivation of the individual human. About 10% of people do not have the necessary "equipment", either mentally or physically to contribute. Of course, we as a humane society need to provide those people with their needs.

The less federal government interferes in the free market, the more motivated people are to work, and the more generous people are to lend a hand to the helpless in their communities. The more government "promises" to take care of everyone who can't make it, the more people just take the free ride, and fewer people feel personally generous to help the few who legitimately need help.

You've said it yourself. People are naturally competitive and self-interested. I agree. Self-interest leads people to great heights and successful people do need to hire others (provide jobs) to help them grow. That synergy is how the free market works. It creates opportunities. Giving the government power and control does not turn people from their competitive instincts into altruists. That's where Socialism always fails. Socialist leaders tax everyone on promises to redistribute to everyone more equally, but then they pocket the money and create even more poor people. Why? Because politicians are self-interested like everyone else. Their political power does not make them kind, benevolent and generous. Power corrupts.

I stand corrected. Neo-liberal was not the proper word. I meant to say Neo-Marxist or the new communists who appear to be taking over political popularity in this country. It's actually a mish-mash of Techno-Facism at the top levels of the partnership of politics and corporations, but they are offering an "equity" message to the people which is very Marxist in its roots. It will be our downfall, just as it has been the downfall of every other Marxist/Communist country in world history. Today's "Neo" evolution of this bad ideology may even lead to quicker and more severe consequences for the masses of people subjected to it.

Your words: "widely differing natural capacities"
My words: "square and round pegs"
    Same thing.

Societies will never have a perfectly balanced "equity" because people do have differing natural capacities. Those differences always mean that there will be rich and poor. That is reality. The capitalist system was the first to provide a healthy "middle" class. Politicians and big government have interfered with the free market and have written laws favoring corporate monopolies and foreign trade deals through a corrupt cronyism which has destroyed the free market and ripped the heart out of "middle" America. Capitalism for them; Marxist "equity" for you and me.

You and I probably want the same thing. More people not living in poverty or paycheck to paycheck, and to decrease the growing gap between the very rich and the very poor.

I am not your enemy. You might give a little more thought to who may be the true enemy.

There is always room for hope and optimism.

She was in another building across the street, separated by about a quarter mile of tunnel filled with Capitol Police.
I think she was safe. She was lying, too.

I worked at a capitol complex. My building was about the same distance away from the Capitol building as the Cannon building.
We were connected by a tunnel in much the same way. I could walk across the hall into the room that connected to the tunnel.
We used it as a storage/break room. If there were demonstrations (there were many) I was not worried AT ALL. There was no way in hell anyone was coming through that tunnel. They would have been shot by a trooper at that point. If they breached my building they would be shot as well. She was never in any real danger. I promise you.
