Two writers for Teen Vogue Magazine are calling for "Rest Reparations" in addition to the regular, old, garden-variety reparations for African-Americans, lives are shorter than white ones because Black people experience "generational fatigue" due solely to the fact that they are, in fact, Black. They don't seem to have a problem catching some winks, just go into the hood at 3:00am and they're wide awake.
There was a time when my techs had to respond to field issues in the hood at 3:00am and I would be out there for safety.
What's wrong with being in the hood at night? Probably some great parties and bingo games happening, no?
We had to do some sewer flow monitoring in a very poor, heavy gang area of Sacramento some years back. While working, a group of locals came over that appeared to be gang members and appeared to be unhappy with our presence in their turf. After we told them we were there to keep the toilets flushing (which was basically true, though in a very roundabout way), their demeanor shifted from cautious verging on hostile to pleasant and jovial, and not only did they leave us to our work, but they seemed to post up nearby in what seemed to be a sort of protective guarding formation around our work area.
Did it ever occur to those that took this and ran with it that an article that talks about: "inherited sleep depravation" "people should be allowed to dream" " people should be given time to rest as reparations" (note no mention of money) " the American Dream is a sleepless one" "Black Power Naps" might not be a serious article? https://www.teenvogue.com/story/black-power-naps-addressing-systemic-racism-in-sleep
