I got to see the results (w/o signing up for anything). 50% "lacked confidence," that Biden was up to the job & 52% were "concerned," that Biden hadn't had a press conference, w/ 36% "very concerned"-- as if most people are paying more attention to Biden's press schedule than to the stellar vaccine rollout, or the Covid stimulus package. Rasmussen obviously took their voter sampling straight from Trump's donor lists.

 

This isn't rational. How can we ever resolve differences if this is going to be your approach?

I really haven't seen any place here that people aren't wearing masks, our state has had pretty much the harshest lock down laws in the states and we still have been hit fairly hard. If we are just going to blame the lack of mask wearing, then we might as well not even try to learn anything. And throw out "follow the science" crap after the whole teacher fiasco.

I don't like wearing a mask but I do. Not while I'm by myself or away from others (like some people) but I don't think it's the main reason that the US has been hit hard. It's more likely that young people that go out and party and then infect other who are not healthy is the main reason. Canada also shows that young adults are the biggest problem. I think Texas is going to be a really good science experiment and I look forward to the data.

Lockdowns, business operating restrictions, and face masks cut transmission. The better the mask, the more drastic the lockdown, the more we cut new infections. We also know increasing virus levels cut spending for services likely to spread covid--dining out, movies, travel.

Do we, say, open bars fully and increase virus levels that may end up cutting business from expected levels in restaurants, theaters, and even bars themselves over what they would be when virus levels are low? Same goes for allowing full stadiums, clubs, large churches to hold full services, and ocean cruises.

This stuff isn't all that complicated and involves tradeoffs. What I'm not going to do is accept self-serving BS about masks not being effective, the virus being a "hoax" or not causing illness and death. I don't think much of the whining about "rights" over having to wear a mask indoors or even outside when social distancing is impossible, but it is a honest view.

Mask wearing is part of the mix. Some people will get sick who would otherwise remain virus free if we don't wear masks. But some people will die anyway.

Meaning what? We shouldn't look at "the science" when we decide on how to organize schooling during the pandemic?

Iowa (3,167,970 people), 5,632 covid deaths; British Columbia (5,145,851 people), 1,397 covid deaths. If you in Iowa were killing Iowans at the same rates BC is killing their people, you would have just 860 covid deaths. Aren't you even a teensy bit interested in why so many Iowans have died?

BC schools have been open since last June. Only recently have people in BC required to wear masks indoors.

I used to run an auto repair business. If I was running it today, I wouldn't let you in the door without a mask. I would be willing to meet you outside, but not inside where you might put my employees and other customers at risk.
