I share your staunch belief in fiscal responsibility and frequently voted republican based soley on debt/deficit issues in the past. Now it seems the party of fiscal responsibility is no more but that isn't to say dems are any better.

 

The former President of the United States knowingly lying about the severity of a pandemic to the American people is not nonesense. It is disgraceful.

I do not blame Trump in any way for the virus traveling around the world in 20 days. I blame him for knowing how dangerous the virus was in February and lying to the American people.

 

I remember when Bush enticed Banks to hand out mortgages like candy to people who could barely afford the mortgages at teaser rates.

a. Bush and a Republican Congress did that after the peak deficit of $400B after the Dot.com bust stock market collapse and then the 9/11 attack. They made two mistakes. The $600 prebate on the new tax rates, it did nothing to stimulate anything but then not "free money" like we have seen with COVID hand outs so not a big thing. Then they passed the tax rate cuts as phase in's through 2006 barely cutting at all the first year. By 2003 they saw the error of the ways and in 2004 full implemented them and revenues SOARED, more people went back to work at the new jobs make more money and becoming tax payers again. Then yes in 2007 the Democrats took back the Congress and control of the government with a lame duck President. A YEAR before the recession started. As the economy slowed they did nothing and were certainly not taking their orders from Bush. The did as Biden is proposing now and it was a disaster and yes took that last Republican deficit of that paltry $161B to $1.4T in just two years. And then kept it above $1T for the next 3 years. And the stimulus failed by it's own stated goal of keeping unemployment to just 8% and instead it soared to 10% and stayed over 8% for the next three years. The worst recovery in modern history.

You do realize that unemployment hit 14% on the Covid recession and here 10 months later we are at 6.2% heading full employment. It took Biden OVER FIFTY MONTHS to do that last time.

b. Trump's budgets called across the board spending cuts. His budgets and spending levels were not passed. That being said Trump never was consider the great fiscal conservatives to begin with. But certainly more so than any Democrats. I take it you support fiscally conservative policies? Which party has constantly and consistently called for higher spending and in record amounts as I type?

Sorry but the government efforts and response are his, he was the President. But if I look will I find this same being applied to Biden who is trying to claim the credit for Trump's OWS?

He took every action of a man who knew the severity of the situation. He could have said, "Hey, we are doomed and we don't have a solution." or avoid panic and do everything in his power to facilitate the delivery of a vaccine as fast as the sluggish bureaucracy could allow it to happen.

Beyond that, he could have overridden Fauci and avoid 87% of the deaths by pushing HCQ & Zinc that proved to be effective --- but he couldn't force the solution down the throats of the medical community over the din of criticism by the Democrat media.
