Then how do you communicate to high schools these concepts surrounding sex? How do you teach this? Or better yet can you use sex scenes to teach people important concepts or ideas?

You do understand that sex education isn't actually about teaching kids how to have sex, right?

Meh, I have no problem with it. My daughter who is in 8th grade knows far more about sexually explicit things than what those passage that you quoted say. And she still thinks sex stuff is icky, pornography is misogynistic, and several other left leaning things. I also answer all of my kid's questions and always have. My belief is that if you're old enough to ask, then you're old enough to know. Sheltering kids, and anyone else really, from knowledge is what leads to stupidity.

You think not allowing books with pornographic content is "sheltering kids". Holy f***, what has happened to society?

Yeah. I did. And that’s why I asked if we could use sex to teach something about the world in a constructive and healthy way. Or better yet use sex as a literary device. So you talking about sex Ed is moot.

Oh FFS, "She sucked my d*ck " is very likely NOT a literary device but even in the best case it's crude and not appropriate reading for 13 year old kids. I don't give a f*** that you think it is. Parents should have a say, and it's not unreasonable to demand that porn is harder to access than the freaking school library!

I took sex ed in the country next to Loudon and it was purely boring anatomical and biological stuff - there was no talk about slobbering all over each other's junk.

I wonder if the LCPS has any books about what happens to 9th graders when - whoops! - little Johnny gets little Janey knocked up?

It's all shits and giggles until children are raising children and the courts are issuing child support orders...

9th grade is for 14 year olds. To put that in perspective I was allowed to read a book about slavery where the protagonist was sexually assaulted in 8th grade. And it ended up being a beautiful story in the end when she learns she’s pregnant. Sex was used to dehumanize her, and yet she found humanity in the end by coming to terms with her trauma. They’re at that age when they’re having these questions. Do you know what the book is about and how they actually treat sex in it?

I agree with you but calling it porn is extreme. 13 year old kids hear this in their music. Debating its appropriateness is valid, but society has been on a long steady path to open sexuality.

Ironically, during our agricultural beginning, in many places around the young nation, 13 year old girls were only a couple years away from marriage.

If you’d bothered to link to the actual article you’d know that that was no where near the entire article. Not even close to it.

    I'm not sure they do.

Maybe they'd be cool with Andrew Dice Clay teaching Sex Ed...

    WARNING: SEXUALLY EXPLICIT LANGUAGE

Seriously - what's the difference between that and "She sucked my d*ck"?

Seems like the kind of things Democrats want to push into the schools. Remember Fistgate?

I feel like the existence of the internet, rock and rap makes this issue moot... lol

This sentence would not meet the legal definition of pornography. But as it was shown, if you removed this book you would have to remove the Bible.

The same Leftist freakshows that want to push this on kids also are banning To Kill a Mockingbird, Huck Finn, and numerous other classics.

I go back and forth between outrage that the schools aren't open and figuring the kids are probably better off if they don't go.

Playing devil's advocate like another person, how else can sex education(presuming this was sex ed) be taught? I think it's a deadly catch-22 where we want to prevent teen pregnancy, but any mention and/or illustration of sex would be deemed as peddling porn to minors.

I've always sort of thought sex ed should be taught at home. But, surely there is a difference between sex ed and pornography?? Clearly many teachers don't know the difference.

Teachers didn’t assign this book an assignment. But sure blame the teachers.
