I'm a Republican who almost left the party because of Romney. Trump is part of the reason I have become a strong supporter of the party. Trump saved the Republican Party from fading away and made it more diverse. Trump was needed to defeat Hillary and for the most part unified the party.

Trump is also the exact opposite of good. He is bad too. For as much good as Trump has done for the party he lost in 2020. Regardless why the fact remains he is very popular with hardcore Republicans and very unpopular with everyone else.

Yes the Republicans made gains in 2020 in the house but then we lost the Senate and Trump has been going non stop with a narrative the election was stolen and while it may be true he still lost and has not convinced anyone but his die hard supporters that there was cheating.

The Democratic party had about 7 million more votes than the Republican party. Regardless if they came mostly from one state it does not change the fact the Republican party is the minority. We have been for some time.

Candace Owens said she wanted to run for president. Ron Desantis and Nikki Haley also seem to want that too but none of them will run because it would be a waste of time. Trump will easily get the nomination if he runs again as the die hard Republicans want Trump back. They love him and will pick Trump before anyone else and that is the problem.

Trump recently had a rally in Ohio. During the rally he talked about the mistakes Biden is making and how the election was stolen from him. Why is he having rallies? Well this one was to support a candidate but with over 90 minutes of talking it seemed to be mostly about Trump.

Trump has said he wants to run again and will let everyone know after the midterms. My problem is I want my party to keep winning and I'm not honestly sure Trump can win again. Even if he did would that provide long term growth for the party? We can't just think short term. I want to win many more elections and not just 2024.

Trump also had Mike Lidell and Majorie Taylor Greene on stage. Both are viewed as unpopular by many outside the Republican party. If we want to keep winning we have to try to reach more than just Republican voters. I'm not sold that independents want Trump back. Biden is making many mistakes and Kamala is as unpopular as Hillary and I think the independents are tired of them already. This should be a easy win for Republicans in 2024 unless Trump runs.

Should the GOP strategy be to run Trump again and push conservatives that are only popular with hardcore Republicans? Mike Liddel or MTG is not going to win over independents. Honestly I don't think they have a choice. Trump is to popular to compete against but that also leaves the risk of another defeat and pushing away voters who are fed up with Biden.

The hardcore Republicans want Trump and nobody else and if they are happy that is not a good thing if we lose in 2024.

Trump needs to retire. What do you think?

I think Trump running is a winning strategy for the Dems.

If Trump runs again I think he will lose. I just don't see him not running.

For me I want Candace Owens or Tulsi Gabbard. I know Mike Pence is considering a run but I'm not sure about supporting him.

The entire party revolves around Trump at this point and nobody wants to run if Trump decides to run.

The only way Trump can win again is if he goes up against Kamala Harris. She is more unpopular than Hillary Clinton was.

I don't know if it is the best for GOP, but it is best for America as a whole.

Mike Pence is hated by both sides, one sees him as an enabler the other see him as a traitor. He has no chance. He needs to find a new profession.

I think we have this century that inexperience is not a good trait for a POTUS so Owens is out in my book. I like Gabbard and think she could have a shot.

Harris will be running as the incumbent after Biden resigns next year, that changes a lot of the mix

I'd rather see DeSantis run I think. Similar pro-American attitude with more polish and political experience.

I was absolutely convinced that Trump was going to destroy the hopes that Republicans would win the presidency in 2016. In my estimation, he had literally a zero percent chance of winning a general election. I was apoplectic as he kept winning during the primaries. Needless to say, I was wrong.

I dont know what is in store for the next few years, including how sharp Trump may or may not be 4 years later as he will truly be old by that time. With all of that being said, I would not count him out. I believe that he is the perfect antidote to todays Progressive nonsense, and the more that Progressivism marches on beyond what the public as a whole supports, the stronger and more receptive the country will be to his message. Additionally, NOTHING would make me happier than to see their faces if he were to once again shock the world, perhaps with Desantis as his running mate and heir apparent. Assuming that he is still sharp and can still hold a crowd in the palm of his hand, he would have my support, and he would be a strong contender to win once again. To count him out, in my opinion, would be foolish.

First, I'd like to congratulate you and tell you that, as a "hard core" liberal, I don't want other Republicans to have the same lucidity as you.

If only a few million Republicans were capable of such self-criticism, the GOP would still be a party capable of competing with the Democrats for the Presidency.

That said, your political party is now in the hands of MAGA supporters.

And as you know, you can't reason with these people.

Until you moderate Republicans silence them, you're going to have to get used to Liberals running the country.

The riot on Capitol Hill and Trump's mendacious rhetoric has traumatized the majority of voters.

People who believe he can hope to win back the WH are completely out of touch.

Considering that the exodus of moderate independents to the Democrats has been going on for at least two years, you'll need a more centrist, charismatic candidate who has no special relationship with Trump.

And unfortunately, no one fits the bill right now.

The GOP will have to endure a few more years of failed elections to do some serious soul-searching to become competitive at the ballot box again.

Trump running again (assuming he made it through the primaries) would ensure another Democrat presidency (and I voted for him twice). He needs to retire and enjoy the fruits of his labors during the time he has left.....like the Democratic Taliban are EVER going to abandon their jihad to put his head on a pike.....

You are correct about the teflon he has.

But a 2X impeached, voted out incumbent, that lost the R party, the WH, Senate, and House in just 4 yrs, does not sound like a winning strategy, IMO.

But as I posted earlier. I hope he does run, for the good of the country.

Sincerely, other than true Trump haters, I do not believe that people give a rip about the phony impeachments. If anything, those nonsensical exercises in legislative overreach help his cause.

Underestimate him at your own peril. I am pretty sure that the left was salivating for him to win the nomination in 2016 as well.

Most of the MAGA crowd are great people but they want Trump back. Trumps message right now does not excite me. Instead of saying the election was stolen for 4 years he should stick with what he will do to make America better. I just don't think his message will draw in independents or steal Democratic voters.

He needs to retire to prison. But I am 100% sure that, if he's free, he'll run. It might increase the chances of them in congressional races because he'll be a good source for funding. Of course he's not going to get the free promotion on the MSM he got last time. Or the aid he got in 2016 from the Director of the FBI. So he'll likely lose. And lose badly. Especially if he's running against Biden. Today a sitting President always has an almost unsurmountable advantage. Unless his name is Trump, of course.

I personally don’t think it’s a good idea but I’d love to see a person of color run as a republican with policies similar to trump
It’s about time the right plays the race game
    It clearly works

Although Trump seems healthy now, he's an old guy and could start turning into Biden at any time. DeSantis so far seems a better alternative. He has Trump's policies but has more polish, I agree with that.

Of course whether Trump runs or not is entirely up to Trump, not the GOP.

DeSantis has less baggage. Liberals will be forced to scrape the bottom of the barrel to criticize him and it will all be weak sauce. Practically speaking, DeStantis is a stronger candidate in that regard, though I do think Trump was a great President essentially surrounded on all sides, and especially within his own branch, by traitors and usurpers and people of little character..

They helped so much, he got voted out as an incumbent. Cost the R party the WH, Senate, and House in 4 yrs.
    So phony.

Let's let us all judge Trump based on what he says today.
Trump says he made up his mind about running in 2024 during 'Hannity' exclusive

We lost the house in the midterms which historically was against the Republicans.

Trump lost because of Covid. The impeachments meant nothing. If anything, they helped his cause. There is nothing objective that points to the impeachments hurting him in any way.

Except when Dems pointed out lack of polish and experience, it was seen as a good thing by Reps. It meant he wasn't just another politician.

I think people vastly underestimated how deep and evil the bureaucracy is. A little less baggage this time would give us a better chance.
