House approves select committee to investigate pro-Trump Capitol insurrection in party-line vote

    The measure passed in a 222-190 party-line vote. Only two Republicans, Reps. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., and Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., voted in favor of it.

    Under the newly approved legislation, the select committee will be led by Democrats and consist of 13 members. Pelosi will appoint one chairperson and all members, five of whom will be appointed in consultation with Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, according to the legislation.

    Nancy is currently announcing her selections on the committee, and is refusing to speculate on who McCarthy will recommend, if anybody.

    One reasonable surprise.... see if you can spot who it is.

    Chairman - Bennie Thompson (MS)
    Zoe Lofgren (CA)
    Adam Schiff (CA) - Always my preferred chairman for any committee...
    Jamie Raskin (MD)
    3 others I don't recognize off hand, but will identify in a later post...
    Liz Cheney (WY)

    I assume all true Americans agree that we need a definitive report on the insurrection attempt on January 6th?? If not, please explain why...

    Pelosi announced her picks Thursday, saying that in addition to Cheney, Democratic Reps. Bennie Thompson of Missouri; Zoe Lofgren, of California; Adam Schiff, of California; Pete Aguilar, of California; Stephanie Murphy, of Florida; Jamie Raskin, of Maryland; and Elaine Luria of Virginia. would serve on the committee.

    "Select" hell, why don't they just create a new House committee entirely so's they can investigate Trump in perpetuity....:banana:....they can name it the "All Things Trump All The Time Oversight Committee".

    BUT, if they did want to create such a committee, it would be supported by most and it would be the busiest committee in House history...

    Gotta admit... it's pretty clever... Now, no matter what McCarthy does or doesn't do (assuming anybody cares either way), there's a Republican on the committee...

    Not that there deserves to be, but Liz and Adam seem to be the only 2 who get it...

    Not quite, but it's a great start for such a committee... I would have thought Schiff would have been the better pick for chair, but this is not really an Intelligence issue... per se...

    This isn't about Trump. It's about the seditious violence he helped incite at the Capitol. Investigating such an extraordinary event should not be a partisan or political issue at all.

    Somebody explain this logic to me....

    Back in May, 35 GOP House voted yes to the original bi-partisan commission bill.... But when that tanked in the gutless Senate, yesterday only 2 GOP voted yes to Nancy's version of the committee..

    Does that seem like a consistent position to you?? The issue should be what's important here, not who's on the committee....
