DOJ issues warnings to states on voting laws and audits

Republicans apparently are frothing at the mouth in a witch hunt rampage fomented by none other than their narrow minded leader, Donald J. Trump.

Not going unnoticed by mild mannered Merrick Garland, he issues a warning.

The Department of Justice took aim Wednesday at post-election audits and a flurry of voting laws passed after the 2020 elections, warning states some of their actions may run afoul of the law.

“The department is concerned that some jurisdictions conducting them may be using, or proposing to use, procedures that risk violating the Civil Rights Act,” DOJ wrote in the guidance, noting the election officials have record retention requirements.

"Where elections records are no longer under th control of elections officials, this can lead to a significant risk of the records being lost, stolen, altered, compromised, or destroyed. This risk is exacerbated if the lections records are given to private actors who have neither experience nor expertise in handling such records and who are unfamiliar with the obligations imposed by federal law"

Arizona hired Cyber Ninjas, a cybersecurity firm, to conduct the audit, and the firm has since proposed going door-to-door to ask voters whether they voted in the election.

DOJ already sent a letter to Arizona in May warning of issues with the audit and Cyber Ninjas’s plans.

“Federal law prohibits engaging in actions that are likely to deter voters from voting in the future, and that threat of certain kinds of investigations in the past had been held by federal courts to be potentially intimidating to voters,” a DOJ official told reporters in a call Wednesday.

A warning not backed by law. An attempt to scare states into not doing investigations. What are they afraid of?

The second you don’t require a valid ID and put millions of ballots in the mail election officials no longer have control. Prove me wrong. You can’t.

It's about civil rights people. It's a warning that the DOJ will be protecting the civil rights of all Americans to vote and to access the ability to vote. It takes away no power of the states, it's mere is a signal to the states to be aware that they don't violate or hinger the civil and voting rights of any American citizen.

"Frothing at the mouth?" As I have pointed out many times here on PF, liberalism is for some reason often demonstrated on PF and elsewhere by the extreme use of hyperbole. Like crying wolf, too much use of hyperbole and the message is lost. Just sayin.

 

They are on notice not to violate civil rights, all American citizens should champion this, so we all care.

Merrik Garland is pointing out that if they do the "door-to-door" canvasing, they could violate the civil right of the person they are canvasing. It is ILLEGAL to even give the impression that someone is required to tell you if they voted, and/or who they voted for. If they expose the voting records, purposely or not, they would be violating the civil rights of those they expose.

This "recount" has been a clown show since day one when they violated the "blue pen" rule. That in itself showed 1: that they dont know what the hell they are doing and 2: They dont really care about following the law. Now they are claiming that they may canvas voters door to door ? Thats about the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard, because it is ILLEGAL to ask someone whom they voted for in an "official capacity". Merrik tries to warn them, and somehow thats the deep state.
