Oh! you mean like Obama IRS Meanie Lois Lerner.Who did just that.
Took the 5th.But s'not before she read a statement defending her actions.
Real cutesy tootsy eh.Goes to court and reads a statement then takes
the 5th and refuses any questions.Done in perfect Obama fashion.
Just like the way she Retired from the IRS instead of getting fired.
Then allowed to keep her IRS pension.I think full benefit package.
Meaning she got Rewarded for what she did.Denying Conservative Groups
their due in applying for 501{c}{3} tax-exempt status.
Plus the kicker. The IRS was then under Investigation for denying
Conservatives this exemption. The left,as usual lied saying that Liberal
groups were also denied.I think out of around 100 that were denied
tax-exempt status by Lerner, only 1 or 2 turned out to be Liberal.
It became official that in 3 years only One Conservative group was
    granted non-profit status.

Where does it say you need to invoke it to get its protection? Also right to privacy and the right to fee speech is to also say nothing.

This is a perfect example of inability to stay on topic. I'd prefer to not derail the OP and the topic, thanks.

    How many times did Devon Nunes { former House chair of Intelligence }
ask the FBI for necessary documents and then basically ignored. So many
times it lead to him being forced to say In Early 2020 { The GOP has subpoenas
" ready to go " for the " dirty cops " in the federal Government.} Reminding
Democrats if the GOP takes over the house in the autumn 2020 election.
The GOP came close. Not losing any GOP incumbents and the Dems gaining
only a slight majority { around a 4 member lead to remain in the majority }.
Nunes himself is still fighting over how he was spied upon.

    This reminds me...

Past Attorney General Went Unpunished for Contempt

WASHINGTON -- Can Attorney General William Barr thumb his nose at Congress and get away with it? Can the nation's top lawman refuse to honor a House Judiciary Committee subpoena for an unredacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller's report and not pay a penalty?

In 2012, then-Attorney General Eric Holder did just that. Holder defied a congressional subpoena to furnish documents about Operation "Fast and Furious," a program to attempt to trace gun trafficking along the southwest border that went awry. The House held Holder in contempt, but since Holder declined to indict himself, the controversy faded. Holder resigned in 2015.

Um pardom moi.Was not Lerner given instruction as to what happens if
a failure to produce status reports along with newly discovered E-mails.
This is an OP regarding Subpoena.Their use and who involved.

TWO subpoenas were issued to Lerner to hand over her hard drives.
Which were later learned had crashed.Plus other Docs in her possession.
Thankfully a real Journalist { Sharyl Attkisson } then with ABS was on it.
She eventually left the network due to extreme bias with her bosses.
    Which have only quadrupled.

Holder was and IS the Only active Cabinet Member in U.S. history to have been
found guilty of Contempt of Congress.
So much for the Rule of law among the Obama sycophants.
Plus both Holder and Obama managed a few years ago to be
featured attendees at Al Sharpton's annual National Action Network
confab.Plus Sharpton was at the Obama WH way over 100 times.
He also was used in an advisory capacity in Replacing Holder.

YOU are the one to go off topic with the "fifth" comment and then condemn someone for discussing the "fifth"...
What a good little liberal you are my friend.

This is such a nice post, why do you think Bannon will not invoke the 5th? His ego?

If one is served a subpoena that is improper, unenforceable, and probably illegal the only smart and prudent thing to do is to simply throw it in the wastebasket. Only an abominably stupid idiot would show off by appearing and ballyhooing the 5th amendment only to be pilloried on national TV by the cut throat congresspeople.

Why would you voluntarily comply with an unlawful subpoena?

I disagree with this opine. Steve can always take the 5th, it's his right not to incriminate himself.

The only way he can be compelled to testify is in front of a jury if Garland's DOJ can slap together some criminal charges. There's probably a reason that hasn't happened.

Also, Congress has no authority to investigate a private citizen.

I know what a subpoena is, and we know what documents, etc they are requesting. The 4th still applies. You want my ****? Better get your legal ducks in a row for it.

Unconstitutional. They lack the proper motivations, intentions, or powers to enforce this subpoena. I doubt the courts will enforce it.

Courts should reject the subpoena, and view it as a power of the Judicial and Executive Branch that cannot be usurped by congress.

The only enforcement power given to congress is impeachment and outside of the impeachment process, congress has no subpoena powers.
