He said he didn't know anything about ammo, and practiced shooting by firing into targets which were 10ft away. I don't think admitting he knew nothing about the rifle he was firing is helping him, but who knows.

The disadvantage of FMJ rounds it that they're less lethal than hollow points.

Why would a person bent on killing pick the less lethal option?

This case has national attention on twitter, etc. How is it not a political case at this point? Yes, Rittenhouse doesn't have any political title or office, but he's been made a pariah by political forces in a social cultural phenmona. So yes, to me it's a political case.

Whatever the result is, it will send a chill to one group or the other. If Kyle Rittenhouse is guilty, we will know we are no longer allowed to defend ourselves. If he is not guilty, rioters will know that they can "peacefully protest" but if they threaten anyone with bodily harm or death, they can and may be shot. Personally, I would rather see the second message sent.

Does anyone know if the man charged with killing David Dorn has been tried yet? Surely the trial of someone accused of killing a 77 year old retired police officer should warrant the same amount of news time as someone accused of killing a child molester and a domestic abuser??

 

He was using FMJ, as I understand it, which go through people, as opposed to hollow.

 

His intent is murderous either way, but with FMJ, you are reckless (for this purpose) because the bullet will go through people and hurt or could kill unintended targets. Isn't that the point the prosecution raised?

Seems like a real contrast in approach between the defense and the prosecution in their closing arguments. Defense wants to talk about people in his group pointing lasers, Kyle not being an EMT, Kyle being told not to leave the property. Kind of all over the place. In contrast I'm hearing the defense say here is what the law says and here is how Kyle's actions apply to the law. Hopefully the jury is reasonably intelligent and unbiased.

He doesn't know what he's talking about. FMJ is the most commonly used round because its cheap. A copper jacket keeps the lead projectile from leaving lead in the barrel, that's all. Its not armor piercing.
