A drag show in no way does any of those things. You can’t honestly think a kid who sees a man dressed as a woman is suddenly going to become gay, do you? It doesn’t work that way. Plus again, how can one drag show undo years of parenting??? Logically it makes zero sense if you think it can. Again, I would never have brought my kids to a drag show but not because I was scared my kids would somehow become someone they weren’t. If you’re not securing in your parenting abilities then maybe it’s something you need to work on.

You're painfully ill-informed if you believe this, I'm sorry to say.

1) A child who sees such behaviour normalised, does indeed become more susceptible to the appeal of these things - if they ever find themselves in an attention-seeking episode (and many young teens do). It's a very well understood process, actually.

2) On the contrary, that's exactly how it works.

3) If a child has endured inadequate parenting (ie, no strong guidance), there is no real parenting to undo - sadly very common in the 21stC. Such kids remain empty vessels .. ready to be filled by the first appealing validation they encounter. They're the same kids who're always susceptible to every bad thing teens encounter. Whether that's drugs, or whacky Christian Fellowship groups. This is just the latest 'bad thing' that ****s up kids for life. Or rather, the lastest convenient thing .. with the initial sh!t parenting being the root cause.

 

Because what you see below is damaging the school system and encouraging extreme rightwing parents to harass teachers. The next step, of course, will be for leftwing parents to use the same law to harass school and school districts for not initiating or maintaining policies

"If a concern is not resolved by the school district, a parent may:
(I) Request the Commissioner of Education to appoint a special magistrate who is a member of The Florida Bar in good standing and who has at least 5 years' experience in administrative law. The special magistrate shall determine facts relating to the dispute over the school district procedure or practice, consider information provided by the school district, and render a recommended decision for resolution to the State Board of Education within 30 days after receipt of the request by the parent. The State Board of Education must approve or reject the recommended decision at its next regularly scheduled meeting that is more than 7 calendar days and no more than 30 days after the date the recommended decision is transmitted. The costs of the special magistrate shall be borne by the school district. The State Board of Education shall adopt rules, including forms, necessary to implement this subparagraph.
(II) Bring an action against the school district to obtain a declaratory judgment that the school district procedure or practice violates this paragraph and seek injunctive relief. A court may award damages and shall award reasonable attorney fees and court costs to a parent who receives declaratory or injunctive relief."​

This bill is about harassing teachers. The state just said it can take away a teacher's license to teach in Florida for violating the law (see above). Anything can be subject to a ruling by a special magistrate. There's no review process.

Why would STEM teachers want to work in Florida, especially when the pay is so low (Florida is 49th teacher pay) and home prices in Florida have gone up about 40% over the past two years?

Do you guys care what you're doing is harming public education? Not that I see.

Now, I prefer school vouchers, but as long as we have a public school system, we shouldn't be harassing teachers. If you don't like how the schools are run, change your local school board.

If you harass teachers, some of the good ones look for opportunities outside the state. Some won't go into teaching at all. Who will be left? In some cases, those who don't have other options--not the sharpest knives in the drawer.

 

If you think a drag show is the equivalent to rape or murder, then you aren't prepared to have an adult conversation about this topic.

 

Supervising them is the responsibility of the local school district. You either believe in local control or you don't. I do.

Not all parents agree. Anyway, setting policy is the job of the local school district.

Of course I deplore the rape of children by priests. I also deplore the grooming of children by teachers. There is nothing I can do about Catholic priests, or Bapstists fior that mattee r. But I can do something about my local school board and library. At least I don't enable the priests by denying the abuse exists like you do for the teachers.
