In 2021 the population of Ukraine was estimated at 43,531,422 million. Two years later after Ukraine had received more than 25,900 million dollars in aid, the population of Ukraine was estimated at 36,744,634. This may seem a naive question, but has the aid been of benefit to 'the people of Ukraine'?
So about 6,786,788 people left between Jan 1 2021 and Jan 1 2023, so that's about 3,816 dollars per person who left. Giving them 'aid' is having a funny effect. Maybe the word 'aid' doesn't mean what we think it means...
I would say, if Ukraine won, a certain element of Americans will claim victory because of the money/arms they gave Ukraine, despite other countries doing so too.
Do you mean if Western and Central Ukraine won against Eastern and Southern Ukraine, then Ukraine would win overall? Both parts of Ukraine are losing people and lives. Both sides are losing but the media calls that 'winning'.
The US executive and Congress and media languages all take a bit of getting used to. 'Foreign Aid' is mostly giving one country weapons to kill people in another country. Sometimes we are fair and give weapons to both sides so they can kill each other.
'Supplying Aid to Ukraine' means some blankets but mostly bullets and artillery shells. We refer to Western and Central Ukraine as 'Ukraine' because we send the weapons to the capital, Kyiv. And they have for years been using the weapons we send them against the civilians in Eastern Ukraine including Donetsk. So when we say 'aid to Ukraine' we mean aid for one part of Ukraine to destroy the other part of Ukraine. From late 2014 to Feb 24th in 2022 Kyiv has not been using the weapons against Russia, it has been using them against Eastern Ukraine.
Yes but you're talking about aid given to Ukraine which resulted in Ukrainians being killed, aren't you?
Initially, after the US-sponsored Maidan Uprising in Feb 2014, the small amount of aid sent included artillery shells so a few per day were fired into Eastern Ukraine, mainly Donetsk. I don't have data but that would have encouraged some of the civilians in that city to leave. Neither B Obama nor D Trump was willing to send large quantities of aid to Ukraine, but J Biden did and in early 2022 the rate of bombardment of Eastern Ukraine increased a lot and V. Putin finally made good on his promise to help Eastern Ukraine on Feb 24th. After that, some shells started going the other way. And the US has continued to send more and more aid and so the conflict has progressively escalated. Now people in Central and Western Ukraine are also suffering, so they are leaving. That's how both sides of Ukraine have been losing population.
don't listen to the Russian propaganda, yes, some left that could leave during the War Russia brought to them.... but let's blame it on the USA giving 25,900 million dollars in aid, shall we
The 'aid' is mostly weapons, and after Kyiv has been firing shells into Donbas, at a slow but steady rate for 8 years. That often encouraged people in Donbas to leave. When more 'aid' was supplied the shelling increased a lot from Feb 16th and then on Feb 24th Russia moved in to protect Donbas, and fired at the attacking artillery. And the conflict has now grown with every increasing levels of weaponry from the US matched by weapons from Russia, and now people are leaving from both sides of Ukraine. The important thing to note is that 'aid' usually means 'weapons'.
It's important to remember that Ukraine -- like Russia -- is ruled by about two dozen über-powerful billionaire oligarchs. It is probably of no overpowering importance to the United States how Ukraine is governed, or by exactly 'who', as long as they 'go-along' with us and do what is most in harmony with our American foreign policy (not necessarily a 'bad' thing). But how truthfully beneficial is any of this to the ordinary people of Ukraine...the "population"...? I imagine they'd like it a lot if they weren't being blown up, murdered, and having their cities destroyed during this Russian invasion. One thing seems clear now as we approach the one-year anniversary of Russia's big 'adventure' -- Russia is doomed! It has taken a while, but now, the NATO countries are galvanized against Russia, and if Putin and the other Russian oligarchs aren't very, very careful, the Chinese will be ready to pounce on Siberia and the oil and gas producing regions around the Caucasus. In all of Russia, there are fewer than ten cities of any size or vital importance. Russia's total population is a fraction of that of either the combined NATO countries, or that of China. If it is lucky, Russia may be able to take over -- and keep -- the Donbas provinces of Luhansk and Donetsk (which have hated the Kiev-based oligarchs for decades), but it cannot overwhelm anything west of the Dnieper River, and it will probably destroy itself if it continues to try, this spring, or at any other time.
Most of US aid comes in the form of buying from US suppliers/manufacturers and shipping it to Ukraine or wherever. Our aid is almost always for our economy's benefit too.
We say it is 'aid to the people of Ukraine' while the reality is, it is mostly weapons to the government and armed forces of Western and Central Ukraine.
We can call it whatever, but the DoD subsidizes the industries it relies upon day in and day out to make sure we have capacity and readiness when we need it. Sometimes we have a reason to spend the money, like with Ukraine, and sometimes we do it just to stockpile or have crap "accidentally" fall off the backs of ships that needs to be replaced. Rightly or wrongly, that is just how it works in the US.
It isn't aid to Ukraine, it is weapons for western and central Ukraine to use against Donbas and other parts of eastern Ukraine. It doesn't help the people of Ukraine. It harms the people of Eastern Ukraine, and now the Russian forces attack those who attack Eastern Ukraine so people of Ukraine on both sides are dying. But our propaganda knows the public will support the war if we claim we are helping somebody, even though we aren't
So in your opinion Ukraine should have offered no resistance when Russia invaded or if they did offer resistance and called for help the west should have ignored them. That would have saved a lot of lives, but allowing Russia to invade another country set a dangerous precedent and is a criminal act. You are aware your avatar SPQR is used by white nationalists. It seems you would be more concerned about the sovereignty of a nation than the loss of life.
So you think the aid has resulted in people leaving Ukraine? There isn't some other reason that people left? If we hadn't done anything, there wouldn't be any Ukrainians left in Ukraine, they would be Russians.
