Your refusal to exercise a little common sense seems disingenuous. Accepting a practice doesn't mean that suddenly everything done under that guise is okay. We can still use some discretion and recognize when a particular symbol creates a hostile environment.

It would appear that seeing an opposing view is making you hostile. Once we accept the practice, now its just a matter of deciding which beliefs are acceptable and which are not. Now, all we have done is create a list of "preferred beliefs" and those that hold those beliefs are now "preferred citizens."

Such a flag endorses a political opinion supported by a person with authority. But you know that.

I'm genuinely curious what part of my post you interpreted as hostility.

The beliefs aren't the problem, though, it's how they're expressed or represented in the class. No one cares if a teacher believes in a literal interpretation of the Bible until he or she starts telling kids they're going to hell or refuses to teach evolution. If they just have a Bible sitting on their desk, then it's no big deal. A teacher who believes in tolerance can express that by showing all of their students, especially those typically marginalized, that they're safe in class and that is (or at least should be) fine. If they rant and rave about it, and go on expletive filled rants about bigots, then it's a problem. And it's fair to look at behavior or what's being displayed and ask "does this create a hostile educational environment?"

I simply find it so strange when folks try to argue that if you allow the general idea of something, you suddenly have to allow every possible instance of that thing without any discretion.

What political opinion is that? That LGBT+ people exist and are deserving of a base level of respect?

Yes. There is nothing respectable about the alphabet people despite your doctrine.

First of all, there's nothing after LGB except mental illness and attention seeking.

Second, did you catch that huge thread we had here where the emergence of so many people thinking they're in the wrong body has been attributed to a social contagion? With these flags in the classroom, now kids will become more susceptible to being contaminated with thoughts they might never have. Like just about anything hung on a classroom wall, they're there to encourage curiosity and interest. How about hanging the Constitution on the walls of classrooms instead?

"Your refusal to exercise a little common sense seems disingenuous." Anyone that doesn't agree with your personal beliefs lacks common sense, right?

My position is a simple one. Instead of forming an acceptable image committee deciding if the image of an aborted fetus, pride flag, Gadsden flag, bible verses, Jesus, etc., perhaps they can just focus on providing a quality education.

And THAT would entail “stop targeting teachers with ***** complaints over nothing” eg the incident quoted by the OP which turns out to have been staged

And THIS is an allegation without evidence pushed by right wing media who are getting advertising dollars from private education companies

While we are discussing a fake story, I have experienced teachers using their influence to push their personal beliefs in the classroom. One forum member admits to his wife displaying a pride flag in the classroom.

Why, in your opinion, is it unreasonable to object to this practice?

Then the correct action would be to complain to the school principle. But what if that were hung, fir a day, as part of an education program about Nazism?

You can dismiss all you want.

When you pass out text books and teach about these things, kids become curious. They are already impressionable as hell. Then you hang up a flag, and even take them to a parade. Put some feminen products in the boys bathroom.

Yes. It does make them challenge their own feelings and sways them in a certain direction.

Kids are not adults. Their brains are not developed. I could probably convince a portion of students to eat tide pods... oh wait.

If you think all the constant pressure from the left to make sure this isn't in front of their face constantly isn't agenda driven, then whatever. It's painfully obvious.

Kids are and should be exposed to all sorts of experience - it is part of growing up and developing your own internal armour. You cannot and should not “protect” them from everything but discuss with them what they exoerienced and how that affected them bearing in mind that many are also learning the art of manipulation and are not beyond triggering to see what happens next

    Depends

By itself it is just a symbol, a picture, a thing. You invest in it what YOU see. But then no other culture in the world invests as much in flags as Americans do. If our PM came on stage and hugged OUR flag the response would be “Do you mind? Now we have to wash the bloody thing!”

I follow science - that is what science says

Btw to confuse the act of sex with a discussion about rainbow flags is…….. somewhat salacious would you not agree?

Flag represents the LGBT community. Tell me. What is the difference between a hetero sexual woman and a lesbian? Without bringing sex into the conversation?
