So for you its ok if they hold grudges and conflict against you? You would have no problem with them bombing your house because of something that happened before you were born?

I didn't ask what you think of what you would think. I asked what would you think of THEM. Would you be pissed at them? Would you think that what they are doing is wrong? What would you think of THEM?

Now, what if they continued to attack your home for years and years? At what point do you say "grow up! Move on! This is stupid!"?

 

He made some good points, and this is the first time he's gotten a chuckle out of me in a while (that schmear joke got me). But he's leaving out A LOT. He's especially leaving out the fact that this isn't just about history. This is about what's going on right now. Yes, the Palestinians fled Israel . . . to Gaza and the West Bank. Israel controls the borders around Gaza, the air above it, and its access to the sea. They've used this "occupation" (and I personally think that term is correct) to choke out resources from the refugees there, creating one of the worst humanitarian crises on earth. And about half the population is children.

And Israeli settlers have been encroaching. The goal of many in Israel is to push the Palestinians out again. The right wing of Israel is the same as several of the people that Maher quotes: "Oh, I see, you want all of it." And their justification comes from calling this land their "ancestral homeland" . . . words you can't actually speak while also telling people to get over something that happened a few decades ago.

John Oliver's take was much better, and funnier. But I think Maher still writes a lot of his own stuff and Oliver has a team of researchers and writers.

 

Your house?

 

If Gaza is rendered uninhabitable, which it may be given the level of bombing Israel has been doing, then at least two million will be either forced to move or genocides. Don't know where he got 7 million.

 

I guess they should have thought of that before attacking Israel.

 

That happened, yes. Nobody disputes that happened. This is happening, present day. People are being killed and forced to move. It's happening. We all know it's happening. That doesn't make it ok nor does it mean we should support it or tolerate it.

 

The vast majority of them didn't attack Israel.

 

Then the vast majority of them should be helping Israel get rid of Hamas. But they aren't. Instead they allow them to hide hostages among them and allow them to build tunnels under their city.

 

It occurs to me that a vast majority of Germans and Japanese didn't attack Pearl Harbor. What am I supposed to do with this?

 

Bill Maher has always been a reasonable man.

Here it sounds like he is offering a reasonable accommodation to genocide. Yes Bill, things change.

 

I don't recall a forced deportation of either all the Japanese or Germans without anywhere agreeing to take them in.

 

What do you think they can do about it? You think they elect Hamas every couple of years and support Hamas activity?

 

This is where you lose me. Yes, they are doing it. Yes, Palestinians who are being abused by it can't do anything about it. Yes, America has and likely will again do similar to others. No, that doesn't make it something we shouldn't condemn. Bad things happen, and will happen, so we shouldn't object? You could try that excuse for any attrocity.

In your case, as Americans, your country is actually funding, enabling, and giving propaganda cover for it as well.
