I think what Trump's defenders continue to miss in their myopic focus on the events of January 6th, is that even if the riot had not happened a case can be made for Trump's insurrection based solely on the multifaceted plot that he helped design and carry out.

 

Exactly !!! The "plot" itself was the problem...and disqualifying. And HE created the plot. and is RESPONSIBLE for it. ( and of course the events that unfolded) The buck really DOES stop with POTUS.....For some bizarre reason , T's supporters make him an exception. ergo alternate reality .

Majorities of both the House and the Senate voted in 2021 in the second impeachment proceeding that former President Trump was guilty of exactly the conduct proscribed by 14:3, conduct clearly stated in the Article of Impeachment, which was titled “Incitement of Insurrection.”

Of course, after impeachment by the House, the Senate did not vote to convict by the required two-thirds; that would have automatically precluded a second term. But let’s not forget or ignore that 57 senators did vote to convict, endorsing a finding that Trump had engaged in conduct covered by 14:3.

The impeachment vote met the standard of a guilty verdict in a civil trial.

 

Maybe we should deprive you of your vote because section 2 likewise doesn’t call for a conviction.
