So start by getting rid of the Federal minimum wage and let the free market take over?

I'd mine the southern border at non crossing zones and place signs EVERYWHERE stating as such.

If you still refuse to oblige? Oh well.

I can't help agree with you, to an extent. Surely "Pancho" and "Emilio" have access to wire-cutting tools!

What our national government SHOULD do is put U. S. military personnel on the border to interdict and stop COMPLETELY any and all illegal entry into this country -- period. Moreover, any "asylum" scammer who just 'shows up' at the border should be told he/she is NOT to be allowed into this country until or unless they comply with U. S. law and procedures governing the proper way to apply for, and eventually be granted, "asylum" status.

And, to be generously informative, post signs all along our side of the border like this:

upload_2024-2-4_12-37-5.png "Passage is prohibited here! (You face) danger of death!"

You ever notice that when Trump fails it is not his fault? Yet when the left fails they are to blame. I respect those that can own up to their failures which is why I do not respect either party when it comes to the border issue. Trump talks a big talk but failed miserably to deliver. Only a fool would trust him a 2nd time expecting a different result. Trump is a conman. I wish more on the right could see that.

Most regulation is designed and passed by congress - not the president.

Some regulation and monitoring is desired by various industries. For example, a salmonella outbreak impacts regional agriculture, and farms have an interest in that not happening on other farmer's fields or handling. Agriculture groups have volunteered to pay more to help this effort, but it requires law to implement.

In general, blaming the president for what congress does is a purely political bit of nonsense.

You want America to be shooting families who are trying to escape unlivable conditions below the border??

    True.

Trump's border efforts were a clear indication that congress has to solve immigration.

Trump had to redirect money to the border AGAINST what congress wanted the money to be spent on. What he did was probably illegal - which is sure to be irrelevant to Republicans.

Under Obama, a bipartisan committee in congress worked out an immigration plan that covered pretty much all aspects. It had significant Republican congressional members, such as Rubio. It was touted by Republicans in the Senate, but when the bill passed and was sent to the House, Speaker Boehner prevented it from coming to a vote!!!

    Sound familiar?

Do what you wish with the minimum wage. I don't live in a world where people set their sights on the bottom rung of the ladder of success.

That's where Americans are struggling the most.

What's the justification for ignoring them?

No, I don't "want" that, but I do want our borders and our national sovereignty to be completely protected from invaders, scammers, criminals, and parasitic opportunists of ALL kinds from everywhere. We should put the message across in NO UNCERTAIN TERMS that we will not tolerate any foreigner deliberately breaking our laws and entering our country illegally -- period. If they refuse to respect our laws then the whole damned bunch of them deserve to be repulsed by whatever means are necessary.

You have to WANT the methods you lobby for. You can't say you don't want it, and then lobby to implement it.

Also, its self defeating, as you know FOR SURE that your ideas of shooting families, etc., is not only NOT going to be implemented, but it just clogs of the decision process for what can be agreed on.

We know why people want to cross the border, but our limited and political view of the issue focuses on a barrier - not a reduction in why they come. Plus, the comments about a border stopping guns and drugs is just nonsense. Guns and drugs come in through the official points of entry - not by starving immigrants trying to get their families across the river.

We need a more complete solution - one that addresses why people come, not just THAT they come, one that has an actual working LEGAL mechanism that isn't a joke to those who want to immigrate, one that protects jobs while allowing labor where businesses honestly can't hire people to do the work, etc.

According to current law, any migrant can claim refugee status and if from Central American nations have to be given a hearing infront of a Judge, all the military on the border won’t stop this

That is not true at all. There are REQUIREMENTS to be able to claim refugee status. About 90% of illegals do not meet the requirements to claim refugee status.

"To be eligible for refugee status, you must be:
    • Outside the United States
    • Able to demonstrate that you were persecuted or have a fear of persecution in your home country due to your:
      • Race
      • Religion
      • Nationality
      • Social group
      • Political opinion
In most cases, it can take several months or more to go through all of the steps in the process of seeking refuge. Typically, to apply, you must first register with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the country to which you have fled. UNHCR will determine if you qualify for refugee status."

That’s not entirely true, if it were, that would mean Abbott is a criminal shipping what you call illegals across State lines

Both Trump and Biden failed on preventing illegal immigration. The main difference is that Biden failed while simultaneously encouraging more illegal immigration which has led to the problem becoming exponentially larger.

Abbott is simply keeping Texas from being overrun. We are not a "sanctuary state". Abbott is simply sending illegals to states that have declared they ARE "sanctuary states" and WANT the illegals.

Can't argue that.. I think the entire country is just hooked on slave labor. If we had to pay people an honest wage in this country we couldn't afford to eat, travel, cloth and enjoy leisure and entertainment..

We can, and we should. We have many artificially successful companies. If one cannot invent or innovate a product or service that the people want, and be able to produce it by paying a fair wage to the citizens of the country of incorporation, then, in a democratic capitalist country, one should fail.

We are not simply a capitalist country. We are a democratic capitalist country. And it's way beyond time that we, the people, rein in these artificially successful companies.

No, you live in a world where people from all over will come to the US to work for $300 a month that they will then wire back to Mexico, or the Congo. In effect, that makes a huge chunk of US citizens jobless, therefore, dependent on government handouts.

So sad that we allow that. I agree with you. But the post you are responding to was "a federally mandated minimum wage" versus a "market driven minimum wage" and had nothing to do with the illegals invading us.

    Anyway, I agree with you.

Problem is, a fair wage doesn't always produce an affordable product, foodstuffs as one example..

And to be fair, it's not just companies that use slave labor, many average people use it to groom, and maintain their property's, serve them and raise their children while they work for very good wages..

It's a complicated and shared practice all Americans take advantage of knowingly and unknowingly.

Many years ago, a man with the best mind I have known in my life was part of a focus group I was in, trying to bring clarity and logical solutions to politics and citizens. One day- he said, "They're all morons. They will never learn", and quit. I argued that whatever people may be- they are all we had to work with, trying to get him to stay- to no avail. As I watch what is happening today in things like the insanity of our border policies, I keep thinking about that statement.

Immigration is a process that takes place by agreements of permission with the nation you wish to enter. Invasion is the process of a mass of people entering without the consent of that nation, without respecting its laws or its border. 302,000 people entered America illegally in December alone. That's the size of a city like Toledo Ohio. This is not "immigration" of any kind, it is an invasion. It's obvious that this is causing a great deal of harm today- and will continue to do so indefinitely. While the illegality of it , the massive costs of it and the chaos this has caused is beyond question, the tolerance of it allows it to continue. Tolerance is the definition of what you allow- but it is also the way we define range of acceptability, where things done within a range are beneficial, and done outside those limits become toxic. Uncontrolled borders are toxic.

Inviting this invasion is illegal. Assisting it is illegal. Supporting it is illegal. Tolerating it is dereliction of duty. Doing all these things together borders on treason- and is a direct violation of the Oath Of Office,
and a violation of the Fiduciary Duty every elected public official has. It's a violation of the moral contract that every person in elected office has made with the American citizens- and it is a betrayal of their trust.

You don't have to be a moron to do that, only evil, immoral and sociopathic. Tolerating it is another issue, and why we are is a question we must ask ourselves.
The term "moron" implies the inability to learn, the willingness to act stupidly.
It's no longer used in psychology and is considered an insult. Some people think unlimited tolerance is a quality of some kind. They are not learning from experience and obvious reality.
Thus- we tolerate, some even defend the invasion and uncontrolled border, and the entire nation suffers the consequences. That makes no sense to a rational mind.
