obsession is a negative connotation, that, while it can be applied towards something constructive is nevertheless still used negatively to denote other areas that are negatively affected.

E.G. “His obsession with his work is great but as a result his wife left him long ago”.


You want to use the same word with same level of fixation only a positive connotation? Try “Devotion” or “Passion”. “Obsession” is never used positively, nor will anyone say “thank you” for you calling them obsessed.
