But yeah, that's why Panera got an exception. Not because his friend owns it....but because as you say....democrats want to make sure those workers are sharing the profit. So, to do that, they are exempted from getting 20 an hour and can be paid less.... so they can share in profits.

Then why the richest country of all times is not even able to pay livable wages for hard working Americans, while all other deveolped countries can? Do you know what's the entry level wage for McDonalds in Denmark was $22 before CoVid and war. Now it should be 10 to 15% higher. With 30 days of paid vacancies + 11 state holidays + unlimited sick leave + fully covering health care with zero cop and zero deductibles.
If capitalism can't pay livable wages, then explain why socialism would be worse.

If the minimum wage would have been rised like the paychecks of CEOs since 1965, then the minimum wage would be 65 $ per hour today.

Besides this: The minumum wage in developed countries is calculated in a way, that a single earner could pay his or her partner a small appartment in a not-so-good neighborhood, food, internet and telephone, and twice a month a visit at the cinema.

They make more than min wage workers in every red state. But I wouldn’t have exempted them personally

A 900 sqft apartment in Denmark is also $2,338 not including $217 in utilities.
So at $22/hr and and average 35.5% tax rate, they'll take home $2770. Out of that, they'll pay $2550 in rent so they'll have $270/mo to pay for food, transportation, and entertainment. Sounds about the same here unless you live in a liberal area of the country.

You have to understand that it's not the number of dollars that is important. The number of dollars is meaningless. It's the willingness to trade for those dollars that matters. The current price inflation should be a stark example of this. Do you think people value bread more now than they did prior to inflation? Sure, some of the increase in price is due to energy scarcity, but a large portion was due to the fact that dollars got less valued.

    https://www.statista.com/statistics/236635/retail-price-of-white-pan-bread-in-the-united-states/

An increase in the cost of bread doesn't cause people to value bread more. It causes people to value their dollars less. This is the problem with a command economy. You cannot command people to value things. In the minimum wage example, your goal is to command people to value a unit of labor with a certain number of dollars. That not how the dollars or the labor works. It's the other way around. The production of value moderates the willingness to trade for that value.

What you're calling socialism is more aptly described as a scheme to reorganize the willingness to trade value. It's impossible to have that much control over the people's will to trade. That's why people get fired, have their hours cut, or get given a ton more responsibilities immediately after a centrally mandated wage increase. It's because the actual value of the labor unit did not change. The value of dollar then must have decreased.

I think the min wage hike is useless with out controlling the other expenses such as rent. I'm not as conservative as other Republicans when it comes to social security for our poor and low income. We can't just keep increasing burdens on businesses and then allow landlords to Jack up rent to gobble up the extra take home people have when min wage increases. Need to work together as a country to find good solution it's getting out of control. When we don't take care of our poor, we all pay with the crime that comes with it.

The government decides nothing but a minimum wage. If businesses can survive paying those livable wages, why should we give them our hard earned money, so that the owner can pay himself a suitable salary?

This could be an indicator that you don't understand the system you're trying to describe.

If the value of the dollar drops, and the value of the rent stays the same, why wouldn't the rent increase in dollars?

It's all about the money. Why should I work when I'm gonna starve anyway? Or at least get broke.
Tell me why is MacDonalds still profitable in Denmark? Are US-managers really so incompetent that they cannot react other ways than firing people or giving wages that are too low to survive? How about increase customer value?

How do you think this will effect the current housing shortage in CA? Do you think people will scramble to build rental properties?

I don't think we can fully track the value of a dollar anymore and it can wildly vary depending on the market dollar it is being used in.

Automation. As the price of labor is artificially increased by government action humans will be replaced by machines.

Well, you might find such appartments in the heart of Kopenhaven, but the normal rent is more like 2.338 DK which is around 300 Euros.
Mac Donalds is able to pay this - at least in Denmark. Why not in God's own country?

In Denmark there are 16 McDonald's per million inhabitants

In the U.S. there are 45.

    Denmark has 6 million people.

    The US has 333 million.

Do you really think you can directly correlate these two economies? If you assume the crew sizes are the same between the two, then McDonalds in Demark are employing 30% fewer Danes.

McDonalds is a franchise, so not all franchise owners react the same way. But there are a limited number of ways to react under the franchise model. They can't source different inventory. They have to buy what the franchise sells. They aren't leaving any money on the floor in the efficiency of their process (McDonalds is notorious for efficiency of process). So what does that leave these so called incompetent managers with? They can only reduce labor, or increase price in order to remain even.

I checked about the rentals and it seems its about 8000DKK, or $1139. Obviously if you earn min wage, you probably settle for something less than average rent. Same is true everywhere. Average Dane earns $80K a year.
