Every "freedom" has ground rules. It is essential in a civil society.

And that's what Australia is suggesting, I'm behind them 100%..

Clearly the Australian government can't change anything beyond their borders, so they should by all means CONTROL, their interests, news and other outside sources to protect their citizens from propaganda and disinformation.

And THAT speaks volumes about the culture , where that happens.. It is also why social media is the cesspool that it is. The young in particular are highly "influenced" by what they read and see on it. Many rely on it for their "information".... making them an uninformed and influenced group. Because group think is fostered , independent thinking is diminished. X has deteriorated since Musk took over. Musk is a jerk. But he is rich , and has done some progressive things in science.......so he gets away with being an arrogant jerk.

Unfortunatly these are the type of things associated with freedom(s). This sort of rot didn't happen with musk, this has been growing since the 90's.. The signs were always there, but the ever diminishing moralty has given way to depravity.

The internet will be the fall of humanity...Anonymity has given the wierd and mentally ill a perfect world and abundant source of viewers and participants..

Absolutely - there is no such thing as an unfettered “right” to “free speech”. All speech has limitations I.e. no pornography, no depictions of paedophilia, no hate speech, no terrorist related speech etc etc etc.

We are seeing some of those problems NOW. Conspiracy theories, okay some of those are highly entertaining but others are ruining the lives of the hard of thinking I.e forest fires are started by Jewish space lasers. Rise in rubbish “cures” disinformation nd misinformation etc etc etc

Guess what? Fewer gun related crimes = Fewer people in prison = less the government has to pay = less taxes

What is the difference between pornography where there is the sight of a naked body and say the videos streamed by the Christchurch mass murderer? Should we allow beheadings to be streamed?

Sounds like the Australian government needs to learn what free speech is.

If they get to decide what is it isn't misinformation that makes them the ministry of truth.

If you ever wondered how fascism starts it's what the stralia government is doing.

Tell these bickering cowards they are your bitch and you tell them what is it isn't misinformation.

    Censorship is always authoritarian

Incorrect. Fewer gun related crimes doesn't equal fewer crimes. Most of the crimes in the US aren't gun related. They're drug related. Banning those didn't help.

These same posters would blow up if some Muslim extremist called for death to infidels, or show IEDs killing US soldiers, or how about abortions.

spot on!! Seems that some use the terms "freedom" and "rights" in an absolute way. Maybe they actually think that way. But no "freedom" or "right" is absolute . There are qualifications for both. Mind you, it seems like some just recite or regurgitate those words as if programmed to do so.......without giving them any in depth serious thought .

There are a list of standard right wing excuses for America's insane murder rate. Race is always among the first they reach for. It tells you who they are, as if we didn't already know.

You want the government to be the ultimate authority on what is, or isn't "misinformation"?

If you have government censoring your speech and your media because they don't think you're smart enough to discern truth from untruth, or they want to lie to you and trick you into believing it the Free speech ship has sailed.

The second the government makes a law about misinformation it's over.

You're right to free speech isn't limited it's gone.

Never trust people who want you dead to tell you the truth or to decide what is true.

Stand up now or it will be harder later
