That isn't remotely true from where I stand. The feeling that America is wasting its money on foreign adventures while neglecting the home front has been growing since my time serving in Iraq 20 years ago. The reality is Russian trolls posting on the internet have very little power to influence popular opinion in the US. They do try but, no, there is little to no evidence it is effective in any meaningful way.

    That is just a fact.

Discretion isn't isolationism. America isn't an old whore, legs subject to spread for any and everyone. We've been saving the world from Communism since world events leading up to Vietnam and there is enough history of failure to create another school of thought on what our international approach should be. Donald Trump speaks to that.

Britain had given tacit approval to the rise of National Socialist military development in Germany because Whitehall believed Hitler would provide a solid line of defense against the expansion of the Soviet Union and communism. France was less convinced that Germany would focus its animus only on the Soviets, and so they built the Maginot Line of fortifications for assurance that the "Hun" wouldn't invade France again.

But instead of starting a war with the Soviet Union, those crafty Germans instead signed a non-aggression "Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact" with the Russians in late August 1939 -- and then invaded Poland about a week later. And, about two weeks after that, the Russians also invaded Poland. Hitler and Stalin split up Poland between themselves, and then Britain declared war -- although -- there was no serious fighting at all between Britain and Germany until the following April, 1940.

The eight-month period from the beginning of the European War was derided everywhere as a "Phoney War" and a "Sitzkrieg" because, essentially, nothing of any importance took place between Britain and Germany. Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoney_War

    Huh?

Trump, not Obama, provided Ukraine lethal aid (Obama did provide humanitarian aid).

    "Discretion isn't isolationism". Great point.
And most of Trump's anti-NATO talk is directed at bringing to the fore: we spend more (or did till Trump made a point of this) of our GDP protecting NATO than do the nations of Europe we are "helping" with their defense. While the socialists of France enjoy single payer health care, subsidized low college tuition and more, we in the US are supposed to spend more for their defense than they do? Insane. But if you are a deep state whore, you don't care where the money comes from: you just want your illegal graft and kickbacks. The US government is not protecting the US tax payer and they should be doing so.

Sorry mate .. but you have no idea of what you speak --- shortly after the war began .. there were a number of Peace negotiations .. an draft Peace deal was in place in Istanbul .. scuttled by the west.

and Look Tom -- just because folks say things that don't jive with the neocon necessary illusions you got going on .. does not make them Russian Spies.. You have been listening to Hillary and Pelosi far to much .. these Russia Russia Conspiracy theories are a bit too much :) Har har.

Of course the Donor Class shows up for Trump .. you don't get to be President without having at least a few of the important one's on your side .. and sorry Tom .. .. Russia doesn't have much influence among US Oligarchs .. Hillary and Pelosi are not way out to lunch .. they know what they are saying is a lie .. and the most idiotic of nonsense for anyone who knows anything about Washington .. but, the raging masses are mostly ignorant of such things and so they drink down the pablum without question.

Don't know how things work in the hallowed halls now do you Tom ..

Cold hard facts are hard to counter with the obvious timeline. One's doubt doesn't always meet that measure.

True, but again,"Trump, not Obama, provided Ukraine lethal aid (Obama did provide humanitarian aid)."
ITMT: the deep state broke the law, lied to a FISA court so they could illegally wire tap Trump et. al. and came up with nothing. Next to Brandon (the old man with a poor memory who cannot be prosecuted for obvious felonies), Trump must be, in relative terms, squeaky clean. Maybe the cleanest man with the power he held/holds ever.
    Question for you:
Suppose we lose in Ukraine (in relative terms, I am sure we will). Russia advances no farther. The US stops sending $ to Ukraine and for the sake of argument, Russian annexes that nation. The US citizens go on with their lives, at best, a bit poorer than had we never gotten involved. Would you still support this activity believing it somehow was worth doing even if what I describe happens?

If what you describe were to happen then Russian aggression against the Baltic states would be next. Those are NATO members. WW3 ensues.
At the strategic level Russia has already lost via the accession of Sweden and Finland to NATO.
US involvement in Ukraine in no way makes the US even one dime poorer.

Last sentence is so sadly laughable, it's pathetic . Trump gave Ukraine aid because he was trying, and succeeded, in stopping Ukraine from cooperating with Mueller re Manafort and the Russian "foreign influence op" into him being elected. The facts and timline are unquestioned by you since you are only left with Obama deflecting. You weak point about Trump being hard on Russia was easily dismissed by the reason my link providing the facts and timeline hence Trump's corrupt context. Reality is a winner.

Actually the USMC, as being presently reimagined and rebuilt, is a unique capability.

Oh, so that's why they didn't have to get crazy and creative to get Trump with crazy persecutions as there so many obvious... oh wait. Again, they lied, broke the law, spied on him and came up with nothing.

K, so we get rid of the USMC. Is it still OK for US to spend more as a % of GDP on defending the French than the French do?

    Didn't really answer my question:
We "lose"... and we will. At the end of the day, things will go about as well in Ukraine for us as they did in Viet Nam, Lebanon, Afghanistan, etc. (and, the US problems are not associated with those losses). Russia does NOT invade the Baltic states (which it will not as, that means WW3). Was this still worth doing anyway?

I don't think "we" will lose, and I don't think Russia will stop until someone stops them. But even overlooking that disagreement, support for Ukraine is worth doing under all circumstances. That is how we keep faith with our founders.

This is a rebuttal? Obviously not...more like flailing all over the place from this:
And then there's the relevant context and timing:

Is this what MAGA is now? Denigrating Ukraine and being isolationist to the point of letting the free world get overrun by fascists and Communists after our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents sacrificed so much to stop their predecessors and make the world safe for democracy?

Mate I don't care it was a comment demonstrating the evil world of opportunity costs....anyway....your military can do what it wants...your government can spend what it wants on what it likes....anyway last I heard American's didn't want an affordable healthcare system..???...indeed it seems to me that certain republicans become extremely socialist about what is happening to their money when it comes to assisting allies..."oh why are we spending taxpayers money on Ukraine!!! It should be spent on Americans!!!" until someone proposes socialist like policies and then all of a sudden.....jeezuz..... they go all mental about it saying that's all socialism and we don't want anything to do with it!!??

“Beware of foreign entanglements” is a phrase that originates from George Washington’s Farewell Address in 1796. Washington advised the United States to steer clear of permanent alliances with foreign nations. There was another one about the US being well wishers of all those yearning for liberty, but defenders only of our own.

Your logic could bankrupt the US and drain it to our last drop of blood. Priorities. Ukraine for me isn't on the list.

Here's the other relevant context: they lied to a FISA court, illegally spied on him and his and found nothing. Must be a pretty clean guy so they have to make $hit up about him.

I'll simplify: Should poor people give $ to rich people cuz their stuff cost a lot and, poor weren't going to buy much anyway, cuz, they're poor?

I'm assuming you're not trying to argue that America is a poor country so...I assume you're plodding down the path of are the American Armed Forces in NATO....in which case yes....and I'm assuming that you're a mite miffed at this?
As you can see there's a shed load of assuming going on there because I really didn't get your comment....sorry....
