You're supposedly loyal to the Constitution, yet you are in support of Obama's fundamental transformation of America. That must drive you crazy. I'm sure you love the way he purposely evades having to obey the laws of the Constitution, how he intentionally goes around Congress to ram through his legislation, etc. He's about as far from the Constitution as a US President can be.
She didn't say that she said that it wasn't where their sole alliegence should lie presumably impling that they would also have alliegence to their fellow man. Not that they should have none to the country. And surely after serving in the airforce for four years she can reasonably be assumed to be a loyal citizen?
Because this is our country and we do have national interests - basically our own self interest. For you to ask the question shows why this lesson does need to be taught. If you don't like this country get the (*)(*)(*)(*) out - quit taking advantage of the prosperty and liberty it provides.
^ Liberty being autonomy over your own noodle with the ability to decide for yourself and your minor children whether or not you want toparticipate in a form of brainwashing. For a child to recite meaningless words from a very young age, is not patriotism. What is the benefit of this indoctrination?
Loyalty to a 'system'. Are you insane? AppleCorp is a system; should I pledge allegiance to them too? Besides, I don't live like a 'king' of anywhere; the 'system' is doing its level best to throw me and my fellow Britons down the financial crapper. And I should be grateful?
Good question ryanm. That IS the initial commitment in the Air Force. I am a 20-year retiree of the Air Force. Just like other people have said, I am disgusted and embarrassed that a former member of the armed services thinks that pledging loyalty to the country she not only lives in, but served, I take it honorably. She should go back to Jamaica and pledge her loyalty to it if she thinks that way. Additionally, if some on the left don't agree with either the Constitution or the pledge, then they should get the heck out of this country and go somewhere that they don't have either.
If you believe in certain principles then why would you need to keep reminding yourself that you do, by saluting a flag and reciting a little epithet? Isn't that somewhat like evangelism but without the laughs?
Nobody should pledge loyalty to anywhere that they found themselves through an accident of birth. It wasn't divine providence-although judging by some of the comments in this thread it would appear to be just that. Nationalism is an absurdity.
It is a pride thing. As a kid it felt important. There is something to ritual. Why tell your life you love her if you both already know?
And she clearly swore herself in happily or she wouldn't have served 4 years. I'm sorry you've failed to inform of us what you think she feels about pledging loyalty to the country. Why should a citizen have to repeatedly pledge loyalty. Why should a parent not object to state mandated indoctrination. She has displayed her loyalty by voluntarily enlisting in the armned forces. At what point do american citizens earn the right to have and express an opinion that is critical of state mandated indoctrination? Is it a privelage reserved for vets? For those who have given a limb for the country? Or is it a right inherent in citizenship? Are americans Citizens not to hold such views? Why should she leave? She hasn't said she has a problem with the constitution. She seem to have a problem with a form of state mandated indoctrination of her daughter.
Just one more way to show how our values have shrunk in this country. To think that something most schools have done for decades, pledging allegiance to our country is now some how wrong, boggles my mind. I guess next, we will protest having to sing the national anthem. It just goes along with believing it's all right to live together and have children out of wedlock. Showing nudity on television and sexual innuendos on many television programs during the hours kids are still awake. Taking drugs is ok. Doing away with the morning prayer, or minute of silence. Getting angry of a mangier display on the courthouse lawn. Wanting to rename the Christmas tree, Winter tree. Winter Holiday instead of Christmas. Can't believe what the America people now consider bad and good. It would seem like in a period of some 50 years, we have reversed most of our values. That is so sad. Reminds of a joke. (I remember the time when the air was clean and sex was dirty.)
That's funny. Someone opposes a loyalty oath created by a socialist in order to make people loyal to the federal government and they are the communist, instead of you, the person who supports the socialist oath.
They should do it voluntarily. If they wanna pledge allegiance to Cuba or China, they should be deported immediately.
So their 1st Amendment rights should be violated and they should be prosecuted and punished for free speech? Why do you want America to have a Thought Police?
Right, why pledge loyalty or even salute the flag? Our loyalty is only to our political Party. Nothing else matters. God help us.
