How many thought this would happen in the U.S?

    R.I.P. Bill of Rights 1789 - 2011

(NaturalNews) One of the most extraordinary documents in human history -- the Bill of Rights -- has come to an end under President Barack Obama. Derived from sacred principles of natural law, the Bill of Rights has come to a sudden and catastrophic end with the President's signing of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a law that grants the U.S. military the "legal" right to conduct secret kidnappings of U.S. citizens, followed by indefinite detention, interrogation, torture and even murder. This is all conducted completely outside the protection of law, with no jury, no trial, no legal representation and not even any requirement that the government produce evidence against the accused. It is a system of outright government tyranny against the American people, and it effectively nullifies the Bill of Rights.

In what will be remembered as the most traitorous executive signing ever committed against the American people, President Obama signed the bill on New Year's Eve, a time when most Americans were engaged in the consumption of alcohol. It seems appropriate, of course, since no intelligent American could accept the tyranny of this bill if they were sober.

This is the law that will cement Obama's legacy in the history books as the traitor who nullified the Bill of Rights and paved America's pathway down a road of tyranny that will make Nazi Germany's war crimes look like child's play. If Bush had signed a law like this, liberals would have been screaming "impeachment!"

Why the Bill of Rights matters
While the U.S. Constitution already limits the power of federal government, the Bill of Rights is the document that enumerates even more limits of federal government power. In its inception, many argued that a Bill of Rights was completely unnecessary because, they explained, the federal government only has the powers specifically enumerated to it under the U.S. Constitution. There was no need to have a "First Amendment" to protect Free Speech, for example, because there was no power granted to government to diminish Free Speech.

This seems silly today, of course, given the natural tendency of all governments to concentrate power in the hands of the few while destroying the rights and freedoms of their own people. But in the 1780's, whether government could ever become a threat to future freedoms was hotly debated. By 1789, enough revolutionary leaders had agreed on the fundamental principles of a Bill of Rights to sign it into law. Its purpose was to provide additional clarifications on the limitation of government power so that there could be absolutely no question that government could NEVER, under any circumstances, violate these key principles of freedom: Freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, freedom from illegal searches, the right to remain silent, the right to due process under law, and so on.

Of course, today's runaway federal government utterly ignores the limitations placed on it by the founding fathers. It aggressively and criminally seeks to expand its power at all costs, completely ignoring the Bill of Rights and openly violating the limitations of power placed upon it by the United States Constitution. The TSA's illegal searching of air travelers, for example, is a blatant violation of Fourth Amendment rights. The government's hijacking of websites it claims are linking to "copyright infringement" hubs is a blatant violation of First Amendment rights. The government's demand that all Americans be forced to buy private health insurance is a blatant violation of Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution -- the "commerce clause."

Those who want to leave better leave soon......things are going to get so bad that many will not be able to afford to leave.....if they will allow you to leave. But anyway, Americans are getting what they deserve because they have sat by an allow there government via the military and the CIA to commit atrocities in other people’s Country…..what goes around is coming around.

Why are you blaming Obama for this when it was the congress that created and passed the bill? The only thing Obama could have done was veto it. Considering how unanimous the votes in congress were for this bill, the Senate and the House could have easily overrode the veto.

Its truly shocking how people don't understand how the U.S. government works.

Obama taught Constitutional Law and he couldn't see the problems with this bill? Regardless of how many in Congress voted for it, could he not have, at least once, stood on principle and vetoed it? This might have at least brought the issue front and center to the People and forced Congress to override the veto with the People watching.

Thanks for reminding us how little principle Obama truly has.

He signed it. What should be shocking is that Americans have allowed their government to take their rights away without a whimper.

He could have vetoed it to show he is against it. Congress could have overrode it but it would have shown he was pro constitution instead of blatantly throwing out our rights.

We have more important things to do, like partisan bickering. Besides Americans hate freedom; why the hell else would we let this (*)(*)(*)(*) keep happening? Hell if this thread stays up long enough we'll have people telling us we should be deported for protesting against authoritarian rule by government.

Gotta say though you really needed to include the senate. While Obama deserves to be thrown out of office for violating the oath to defend the constitution so did most of the senate. Too bad we'll see all those (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) voted right back in because, again, Americans hate freedom.

Then what was all that bragging to the world in the 80's and 90s about how much rights Americans have? Didn't Bush say the terrorist hate Americans because of their freedom? I guess they are going hate Americans much less now.

The worst part is that Americans are just only going complain about it and that's it. Anyway, it’s too late to take to the streets; the government is just going to bring out the military against them and accuse them of being terrorist. Might as well just accept that America is now under a dictatorship.

And yet, he did not veto this legislation. So Obama could not even make that token effort to stop this erosion of our rights. May he rot for his non efforts.

Let's hope the Supreme Court is not as cowardly as Obama.

If Obama truly valued freedom, he would have vetoed it. That way, he could claim that he had nothing to do with this, and that it was all the fault of Congress. He didn't. He signed it, and this is now a part of his legacy.

It's truly shocking that you're actually trying to justify Obama not vetoing the bill

More legislation in the line of "The Patriot Act". Democrats take away rights for their purposes - Republicans for theirs.

Taking away freedom in America is always "for a good cause" - security. I wonder how secure our grandchildren will be when they inherit our bipartisan federal debt and the results of our bipartisan paranoia.

Indeed, but you're quite late to the game.
This has been going on in modern times since the 50s, when Ike and the Dulles brothers decided that the world was America's backyard and started destabilizing and overthrowing legitimate governments if they failed to meet American approval.
Anybody who knows about people like Arbenz, Mossadegh, Castro, Lumumba, Diem or Allende, to name just a few, knows that we are doing exactly what every other powerful nation has done since the Romans.
America is certainly not exceptional for its foreign policy.

Strikes me that it's good enough for you. You guys bleat on about "vigilence", without actually being vigilant. You insist of keeping guns to protect you from the government, and don't use them. You are incapable of respecting your fellow American if he is not hard right wing. You support illegal wars and extrajudicial executions, via drone strikes in other people's countries. You're so freaking dumb, that you support companies over your own people. You watch Fox news and believe it.*

The beautiful thing about democracy, is that it ensures that you get the government that you deserve.

*Note - Of course does not apply to all American's, mainly the right wing-nuts.

I used to think this was more Bush and some powerful Republicans. But it's the majority of both parties that helped this thing go through. It's very depressing.

I have tried to get people to realize when Bush was in office that both parties are the culprit.....America has been betrayed by both sides. The American people should demand that all those that are responsible to be arrested for treason.
