Well, well, well! We are going nuke and Uncle Sam is a major player in that with the Poms. These will be the first nuclear ships we have, and no doubt the Aussie 'ban the bomb' mob will be sobbing into their hankies.

And, to do this, we must have canned a proposed deal to acquire 12 non-nuclear subs from the French. They will be pissed off, large I guess.

Some wag has already suggested that we name the first of these Subs the
Xi Jinping as without his crap and economic bullying in these parts it is doubtful this deal would have occurred.

The Subs will be built in Adelaide, South Australia at a Yard already being tooled up to build the now abandoned French Subs.

So much for China Joe, ey? He is helping us give China the bird...."Up yours Xi!"

The aussies have gone full 1984 and would likely give away nuke secrets to the Chinese.

Australia is practilly China already. Best to leave them be.

They really should go back to the French subs they planned on buying.

It's a reference to a book that was written about a fictional dictatorial government that abused the people's rights, the title '1984' I believe was to reference specifically to the Communist governments at the time(since the cold war was still ongoing I believe.)

I am happy that we are partnering with the UK to aid the Australians to have nuclear submarines. And your PM is right, the Indo-Pacific region is crucial to Western victory, and particularly for the future prosperity and security of the US State. We're happy to have Australia back in our corner again and it is my hope that Europe sees the light sooner than later in the fight against China.

Joe cant even locate your country on a map. Don't take it personally, he cant locate ours either. So you can be sure that this deal was approved by Beijing because nothing, literally nothing, repeat nothing, once more nothing, ok I liked here's one more, NOTHING that man does or says or signs happens without the approval of his handlers who coordinate with and answer to China. Whatever the play here is, China signed off on it.

I know of Orwell's Book. I just cannot fathom how it can credibly be suggested it applies in any way to down here.

How will the Australian Navy square this with New Zealand? IIRC, NZ forbids even nuclear powered ships from docking in their country. Pretty stupid but nations have their rules.

I guess it means that none of these new nuclear powered Subs can go there. I doubt anyone will shed a tear about that.

U.S. and British (and others) have training courses for sailors to learn such things.

Island nations are the ones that need submarines the most.

Subs are prolly the 2nd best deterrent to invading an island nation. Makes it a lot harder to get an invasion force beached. So, sounds like a good plan to me.

...the first best deterrent to invasion of course is having a well armed populace. But #2 is good as well.

No "well armed populace" in the modern era has ever been more than an annoyance to a regular military.

Increasing the number of nukes in this world is never a good thing.

I don't want to be around when the bombs drop.

Biden and Xi will be pushing up daisies by the time these subs are built.

Nuclear propelled vessels have nothing to do with nuclear weapons.

This is a huge deal. The Australian public are very much against nuclear.

I remember a few years back the US was not even allowed to dock its aircraft carriers in Australian ports because the huge vessels were powered by nuclear energy. (Australia wouldn't even allow nuclear vessels in their waters)

The fact Australia is doing this now demonstrates how concerned they are about China. Especially since the US has recently demonstrated they might refuse to fight, and abandon allies.

Ironically by sabotaging Afghanistan, Biden has done what Trump was trying to do: Make allies start paying for their military protection themselves.

I don't think so. Not sure. This is all I could find relative to your comment.

    Link.

I am sure that US nuclear powered ships were kept out of New Zealand, still are.

    'This is a huge deal.'

Around a Hundred Billion, at least. The French deal was $B90.

This is yet another example of huge amounts of money being spent to "counter China".

Did the US consider this when it signed all those trade agreements with China and gave them money?

It's almost like government's left hand is doing something completely different from it's right.
    It's a schizophrenic policy.

We left a country we had occupied for 20 years after invading it and you call that "refusing to fight and abandoning allies."

    that is so cute

That's not accurate and you know it.

We've already talked about this in other threads.

The point is, many of America's allies fear that the US cannot be relied upon now.

Not really. On one hand China is a geopolitical rival that must be countered.

On the other hand every politicians career is based in part on the economic success of their voters.

It pulls in more than one direction

It is 100% accurate, the rest is just spin. Yeah, we left in a ****ed up manner, but us leaving is not abandoning allies, we gave enough blood and gold to the god forsaken country.

Nobody fears the US cannot be relied upon now anymore today than they did a year ago.

The drama is getting to be a just bit too much

The government does not give China money in the trade deals, we the people buying things from them do. The Govt has nothing to do with it
