They are wrong. But VT is not reliable and wrong quite often - which is a pity. The explosion was caused by 3,700 tons of ammonia nitrate. A ship brought it to Beirut in 2013 and its been sitting in a warehouse.

The mayor of Tel Aviv lit up city hall in the colors or the Lebanese flag, to the chagrin of the hard liners since they're still in a state of war.

There's regulations for these things... you know Dangerous Goods regulations etc for storing and transporting flammable goods & explosives. It's not left up to discretion, clearly massive violation of these regulations

I have a devil of a time finding black powder for my cap n ball revolver. Most gun shops only carry regular smokeless gun powder (unsafe in a muzzloader, to high of a bore pressure) You can order it but you will pay a hefty Hazmat fee. Paid 35$ for a pound at a gun show but that's pure robbery. There are regulations a plenty for how much powder and primers you can store in a home.

Made in the 80's according to a database of symbols assigned to each year of manufacture. It's an exact repro of an 1858 New Model Army, .44 cal.
I cast my own round lead ball for it. Fun to shoot but a pain to clean. I rarely get anywhere to shoot it, in recent times. Not mine but identical, full one ft barrel [IMG]

Comparison for scale, if this explosion had happened in Chicago....

Pretty damn accurate too. Shoots more like a rifle, from about 100ft I killed a wild hog some years ago and filled the freezer. Loading is tedious but you have six rounds of single action when ready to go. Every shot produces a dense cloud of white smoke that would fill a small bathroom. I'll fire it on the 4th of july and new years with no projectile, just a wad of toilet paper packed over the powder load. If not loaded properly you can have a chain fire where the flash from the intended charge ignites other cylinders. Happened to me once, me and the gun were unharmed but the extra recoil and noise and smoke let me know right away.

Oh dear, falling back on 'they' covering everything up again. I suppose that is the obvious course of action when you have zero evidence and a theory so absurd it is actuall funny.

Do you understand just how many nuclear monitoring stations there are around the world? Do you understand that they are controlled by so many different governments & organizations that it simply isn't possible to hide a significant nuvlear event? Do you understand that the breadth of these sites means that no matter who sets off an explosion, there will always be some country that doesn't like them capable of monitoring the radiation?

Of course you don't. You are too busy mainlining conspiracy theories to understand complexities like that.

If it was a nuclear explosion there will be dramatically elevated levels of certain radiation detectable by a great many people, starting in Lebanon itself. Someone would have noticed by now.

Now that's a work of art. I took a small buck at Rock Springs Preserve, and a doe at Bull Creek WMA with a .50 Caliber Hawken(repro) caplock rifle. The bellow report and smoke plume are very satisfying.

I have a Hawken (also quite beautiful) some moron fired it and never cleaned it and put it up loaded, I refused to fire it because I had no guarantee how much powder was in it and if it is smokeless powder. Bullet puller has failed. I suppose I could weld a screw on a rod but I said to hell with it. I pulled the drum for safety and consigned it to a wall hanger. I may get a new barrel and breech plug someday. Them new fangled inlines are blasphemy ! :) And you are right, BP has a certain bass lacking in smokeless powders.

I can't see Israel doing that much damage and risk to innocent civilians just to take out an ammo dump. The stuff was there for years, neglected. It was an explosion waiting to happen. I feel terrible for the people of Beirut.

Those poor souls. At least the ones killed (outright, in the blast) had a very swift death.

I wonder if the blast was bigger than our MOAB? Maybe this will be a wake up call world wide about safe storage?

It's way to early to tell. Will there be people investigating with Geiger counters and other radiation measuring devices? Time will tell.

If it was a nuke, I'm certain it was NOT the mayor of Tel Aviv who ordered it. Mad men are in charge of the Israeli government.

Do you know how much data gathering regarding nuclear fission by-products was done at WTC?

We all feel bad for the people of Beirut. Some of us feel bad for the people of Palestine. Many of us feel bad about the sailors on the USS Liberty in 1967.

Emotions aside, it will be interesting to see how any investigation plays out. I'm curious as to who will conduct radiological testing.

At WTC a few conscientious federal employees DID conduct such tests with limited equipment. You never heard their findings discussed on mainstream media, not a word.

If I were to tell you what they found you would likely be astounded.

Beirut explosion shatters windows across Lebanese capital

2,750 tons of ammonia nitrate stored for 6 years? This is what 1/1000 of that amount did in Oklahoma City back in ‘95.

I think the nuke one came from the sort of cloud it produced which was described as a mushroom cloud and probably worth people being concerned with especially given so many countries are now up to using tactile nuclear weapons. However experts have said the cloud was nothing like a nuclear cloud and frankly I would agree with that. In addition the red appearance is apparently a giveaway for ammonium nitrate.

Because we do not know what started the fire and given that it would according to experts have taken something massive to do so there still is the possibility that this could be found with some outsiders finger prints on it but I hear that in Beirut the majority view now is that it was accidental caused by criminal negligence.

One of the places where the people there are in serious danger is what Dr Hicham Safieddine said in the video I left on the previous page. That is that all this help which is being offered will be offered with the demand that Beirut do what the countries offering the 'help' demand and I was interested to see that Macron was already talking about how they would need to change their ways. The odds are now that this was an accident though unless we find out how it started which was not fireworks we will not know for sure. It certainly is true that even if this was an accident it will have suited a fair number of people.

Of course another danger is starvation given that their grain silos were blown up and most of their food is imported. It just will be interesting to see how they are made to 'pay' for any help.
