California Fleeing: Democrats delude themselves about why their state is losing people

…I just went to a farewell party last night in Lake Elsinore, California — a very multi-racial one, where nearly all of the attendees were black and Mexican. They were homeowners. Industrious immigrants. Entrepreneurs. Cops. Military people. The street they were on, in a very pretty, newish neighborhood of McMansions with big yards and swimming pools, was loaded with "For Sale" signs.

My friend, her husband, and their kids were pulling up stakes for South Carolina. They weren't the only ones planning on going

Reasons cited? Not just high housing costs — the party attendees already had their own homes, as Breitbart cited, quoting the former San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer, who's now running in California's recall referendum to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom.

They cited a feeling of non-representation in the one-party state run solely by Democrats. They felt shut out. They detested the state's ever rising taxes and ever falling services. They loathed the rising crime and the war on cops.

Probably the biggest reason so many cited for leaving was strong desire not to expose their multi-racial kids to wokester education and Critical Race Theory. They said they didn't want their kids to grow up to be victims full of hate for others. They very much liked that red states such as South Carolina and North Carolina and Texas and Florida are full of people who "have manners."

"You can breathe in a place like that," said one.

All of these things are realities of why Californians are fleeing. It's not COVID as they claim. It's not reduced legal immigration, well made up for by illegal immigration now.

It's wokester socialism and the high cost of living….

As a Californian, I can say that what the OP article author wrote is correct. The one party state is oppressive. The payments of china virus stimulus to illegal aliens is ridiculous. The woke bs in education from critical race theory to the 1619 project is another factor. High housing costs and the difficulty building new housing along the coast adds to the problems. Taxes are ridiculously high.

 

Fortunately for me I live in a rural oriented part of California where the worst of the worst can be mitigated by conservative local and school boards, city councils and county boards of supervisors. Our local state Senator and assembly woman are GOP but our Senator is on a 9-31 minority so it’s all about the local. Being 550 miles away from LA and 200 from Oakland/SF helps a lot. I live in an affordable and beautiful area so I’ll stay and push for Jefferson or greater Idaho to happen so that California moves away from me.

 

Redding is a city. You live in a city. You can pretend you're from the farm, but you're not.

 

And there’s only one other (Chico 68 miles SE) close to it’s size for over 150 miles from it in any direction. Redding is large in square miles and there is farmland in the city limits. We do not consider ourselves urban.

 

I don't care what you consider yourself. You live in a city. Redding is urban. Your freeways suck.

You have a metro area population of 179,000. Sorry, not a farm.

 

The first in n out I ever ate at was in Redding.

 

Does California have a State stimulus plan? The stimulus money was handed out by the Federal government in payments to those that filed income tax. The states should have no control over that.

Had the country had it's usual immigration policy not the one of Dirty Donald California's population would not have even slightly reduced as it did last year.

Really? They are all three lanes wide now except a section in Redding that is briefly four lanes each side. That metro area is Shasta County and it’s 3,800 square miles. That’s larger than Delaware and Rhode Island combined with about 1/10th their combined population.

 

A great place. We now have two of them here now and got our 1st Chick Fil A as well.

No state is more beautiful and diverse as California. .

You get what you pay for.


And, fyi, Using Lake Elsinore to represent California would be like using Waukegan to represent Illinois and I have lived in both.
