Weak minded? You've never owned a Corgi (herding group) or Rottweiler (working group) or any Terrier (terrier group) or....maybe any dog. Of the dogs I've owned (the three I mentioned) and some were easier to train, but none was weak minded. The Cairn Terrier was exceptionally independent-minded, or "cat like". :)

You do have to invest your time into training a dog to have a "good dog", whereas you just let your cat be a cat. Cats are easier in that respect.

if it can be 'trained' it has a weak mind... (training is akin to indoctrinating/hypnotizing)

dogs in general are willing dupes that 'dance' for their treats, very similar to an addict that'll do anything for a 'fix'...

cats in general, remain independent & refuse to be 'trained', iow they have strong minds...

there are always exceptions, just as there are with humans...

So you think humans are weak-minded?

I have been "trained" in both book-smart and in street-smart. No one has ever called me weak minded. :p

Colonies are not packs. Housecats do not hunt one prey together, at least not commonly with known group strategies to my knowledge. The only felines I know of that hunt in packs are lions. Housecats may be unique in that they do form colonies but I am unsure whether they ever did so before they began living with people, which was probably much more recently than did dogs and may have even been after mankind began storing large food quantities which attracted rodents.

They did a study of cats in colonies and found that the most successful ones were actually extended families. Cats, it seems, are happiest when kittens and will try to extend their kittenhood as much as they can. Humans who feed them and/or provide prey and some protection are a reasonable substitute for their mothers and if this enables them to live with their littermates then we have a reasonably happy creature. Others may join the colony but they never really become family (blood is thicker than...uh...catnip as well, it seems)

I spent a couple of months in a chicken forum when I was building my coop. I still enjoy the chickens and the eggs, but not enough to post about it often.

That's what I thought! Then one day we happened to witness our cats teaming up with the neighbor's cats. We never saw the cats together so it was really surprising. But two of ours and I think a couple of theirs were all working some wild turkeys. They were clearly working together to corral them into a fenced area.

I can't believe you've only been here since November. Belated welcome. You'll do fine here so long as you agree with me on everything. And I do mean everything.

I have a really sweet, mellow, same cat. Neutered Male.
The other two are neutered female, dark gray tiger stripped.
Pretty Boy is tight with the older, fatter one although he
grew up with the other and can cross their boundaries.
Of the 3 he is least likely to enjoy prolonged petting time.

    He's gorgeous Moi!

Here's mine a few years ago with aspirations of becoming a Christmas tree ornament. I knocked that idea right on the head although he still has more than a passing interest in the Christmas tree!!

It's been a pleasure getting to "know" you. I find you to be very balanced and reasonable.

We have four cats. We are definitely cat people. They are so interesting.

    Here's two of them.

Mine bites sometimes too. Usually when he thinks you are walking towards the kitchen (food food food) and he gets all excited then you turn down the hallway away from the kitchen/food. He will try to chase you and bite the back of your ankles lol.

Hardly! While it may seem so, since when one lives in closer quarters, a smaller companion that is independent and relatively low maintenance is convenient, any number of conservative leaning folks enjoy cats for their independence, relative low maintenance, and mousing capabilities. :)

I had a cat for 18 years and after she died, I could never deal with getting another cause that was too hard.

By the way, you have a pretty powerful sense of humor and our politics seem to be very similar.

    I’m enjoying your posts.

The lady who wrote "The Secret Life of Cats" said she once saw hers stalking deer (my apologies if I just said that) and lions are unique among cats in that pack living is part of their main behavioral repertoire. A tv show I saw said that they had an active social life if other cats were about and they acted much like humans in that they seemed to form friendships with strangers but with difficulty and preferred family overall. Animals never cease to surprise we humans

    Howdy.

I refuse to own an animal. I do however allow animals to be free spirits and come and go as they please along with roam my 43 acres without harm or abuse.
