    Both men were given furloughs

Cohen was just sent back to jail and Stone got his sentence commuted.

Cohen was once a Trump "man". That changed so he's in jail.

    Stone has stood by Trump.

Rule of law no longer matters folks

Oh, the gnashing and wailing, the horror the horror at the evil President who used the same commutation authority that Bubba Dropdrawers did....

    =

On Friday, President Trump commuted Roger Stone’s sentence on the ground that Stone was an unfortunate victim of the Democrats’ Russia hoax. Democrats and other leftists responded with the usual outrage.

This outrage seems absurd when one considers the recent report that one of the leading Black Lives Matter fundraisers is Susan Rosenberg, a convicted domestic terrorist who was once on the FBI’s most-wanted list. Rosenberg is relevant to a discussion about Stone because Bill Clinton, on the last day of his presidency, commuted her 58-year-prison sentence after only 16 years.

    ==

How dare a man be loyal, rather than sell him out for the highest book-advance. Stone's commutation allows him to start legal proceedings against selected persecutors. Let the lawyers enter the shark tank.

Stone was convicted of lying to Congress about conversations he had related to hacks of Democratic emails in the 2016 election. Stone had engaged in a “deliberate, planned” effort to obstruct the U.S. House’s Russia probe, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson said at his sentencing in February.

“He was not prosecuted, as some have complained, for standing up for the President, he was prosecuted for covering up for the President,” the judge said then.

A jury in Washington, D.C. last year found him guilty of all the counts prosecutors had brought alleging false statements, witness tampering and obstruction.

Stone was convicted for lying specifically about conversations he had regarding Wikileaks’ release of hacked Democratic emails ahead of the 2016 election. Stone withheld from Congress documents that would have shed light on relevant communications he had with both the campaign and with intermediaries to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

If you've read the unhinged, lie packed screed that announced Stone's commutation you know this is about more than making a mockery of the rule of law. It's Trump's way of trying to repudiate the Mueller investigation in its entirety. And that tells us all something very revealing. If Don really believed Billy the Bagman's ridiculous effort to dismiss Mueller's findings (including 4 counts of demonstrable obstruction) would he still be seeking to excuse the criminals caught in the investigation?

"A jury in Washington, D.C. last year found him guilty of all the counts prosecutors had brought alleging false statements, witness tampering and obstruction."

"How dare a man be loyal." His loyalty is supposed to be to the country. Stone lied and withheld evidence on Trump's behalf. Those illegal acts have now been rewarded. That Individual 1 would do such a thing is the least surprising thing that happened yesterday.

Every American should be outraged. But they aren't............because............Dear Leader can do no wrong.

Everyone knows, our President has the right to commute or to pardon. Everyone also knows that Democrats believe only they have the right to exercise it, that we would cheapen commutations and pardons by allowing others to share it. Democrats. Ever mindful of their opponents' rights, you betcha.

Listen to the tortured screams of the same people who overlooked Bubba's pardons, including a fugitive who gave to his campaign. Rich, wasn't it? Whose wife was Hillary's travel pal, wasn't she? Something like that. Memory fades on that stuff, and I haven't kept notes. Point here being, the Donks have no high ground to stand on.

    Not even close.

    Whataboutism fail

The difference in how these two men (Cohen/Stone) are being treated is revealing.

"Gates and Bannon testified that the campaign viewed Stone as a sort of conduit to WikiLeaks who claimed — even before the Russian hacking was known — to have insider information. Gates testified that he overheard a phone call in which Trump seemed to discuss WikiLeaks with Stone, calling into question the president’s assertion to Mueller’s office that he did not remember talking about the organization with his longtime friend."
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...a1e5ea-c2b7-11ea-b4f6-cb39cd8940fb_story.html

"That testimony by Rick Gates at Stone’s trial contrasts with Trump’s claim last November that he did not recall speaking to Stone about WikiLeaks, the document disclosure group that during the 2016 campaign released emails stolen from the Democratic Party and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s own campaign chief.

Gates testified in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., that less than a minute after finishing a July 2016 call from Stone Trump indicated that “more information would be coming” from Wikileaks."

Stone is being rewarded for not revealing the piece of info that would have ended Trump's presidency. Namely, coordination between the campaign and Wikileaks on the release of illegally stolen info from the DNC by Russia.

Yes, please, hold that thought dear while you ask people who their own Congresscrook is.

Poly junkies know a bit about Stone, but it's no election-buster so far ahead of the elections. Shelf-life on this will be minimal with a dead-cat bounce in the Monday major newspapers, and then it's pretty much done in the news cycle. The usual New Yawk Slimes pieces will preach the same tired cliches to the same unthinking acolytes...and Stone will become a memory. Just like Bubba Clinton riding on Epstein's jet.

Shelf-life? Is that a joke? What egregious act of idiocy, incompetence, or illegality has ever had any shelf-life with a Trumpleton?

Please make your case for employing the false equivalence of comparing Clinton riding on Epstein's jet with the pardon of a criminal convicted by a jury who withheld evidence pertinent to Trump's potential impeachment.

"Members of the 2016 Trump campaign had a series of contacts with WikiLeaks and people close to its operation regarding leaked Clinton campaign emails, even preparing a press strategy ahead of their release, according to special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

In the report, released Thursday, Mueller also found that members of Trump’s campaign repeatedly sought to acquire Hillary Clinton’s deleted emails at the direction of Donald Trump, specifically campaign staffer and national security adviser Michael Flynn.

The contacts between WikiLeaks and Trump’s advisers, some of which have been previously reported, provide further evidence that the campaign was aware of WikiLeaks’ possession of compromising information on Clinton."

You evidently think I need to justify a standing Presidential practice NOT confined to just one party.

The public at large will have forgotten stone long before Election Day.

Of course nothing has ever, or will ever, top the sniveling that a Republican dared do what they have. This political sin must be punished back to the Drumpfs in Outer Wherever. Doxx them in their graves!

Neither statement gets remotely close to answering my question (because you can't). This isn't about the presidential authority to commute sentences. It's about a complete lack of justification for exercising the power. It's about the self-serving nature of the commutation that does not serve justice but rather mocks it.

    Care to try again?

You mean even more than the nation watching Dem Party mayors deliberately stand down police departments so that violent rioters could loot, burn, mug, and often murder to their hearts' content created countless new supporters for Trump? That much?

that’s local-level politics and the unaffiliated will vote how they see fit. these most recent trump moves hurt his chances. he had to though because stone’s dirt was the worser of the two. stone played trump.

countless new supporters isn’t happening when his approval numbers are dropping.

The unaffiliated don't care until two weeks before a primary, if then. A substantial number see the ballot outside the polling center and thereby even know what they are voting on for the first time. These knee-jerk voters still vote. For the last three elections I have passed groups of people studying such posted ballots, on my way to signing in. I repeat --- these knee-jerk voters still vote.

Poly junkies think Joe and Jane Public will all be loyal voters. They are wrong. A small percentage of total eligible voters show up unless it's a super-hot issue (e.g., marijuana legalization). Those same registered voters in turn are another minority among the general population.

The success of any election is who educates their bunch of dummies first. The Donks are ahead in that race.

Stone had also wanted a commutation rather than a pardon, which would imply he was guilty, and he will now apparently continue to try to overturn his conviction. “[Trump] knows I was under enormous pressure to turn on him. It would have eased my situation considerably. But I didn’t,” Stone told Howard Fineman on Friday.
    https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2020/07/trump-commutes-prison-sentence-of-roger-stone.html

This says everything that we've been saying all along.
Also - Stone was found guilty by a jury. If Trump was a 'law and order' POTUS, he wouldn't disregard the jury finding.

Yesssssss . . . because to the people across this nation whom once again saw standard Dem Party political POLICIES sacrifice their own cities to the power of violent protestors, that was just . . . local . . . issues. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight, that was local issues stuff rather than a huge packet of Party referendum material. Keep thinking that!

really not sure what you keep going on-and-on about. the majority of voters aren’t racists so it’ll likely remain the 30% that are. you keep thinking what you want too.
