So this is part of that $15/hr minimum wage provision that has wormed its way back into the COVID 'relief' bill. You guys remember that 'relief' bill right? It was the one where we were supposed to get $2000 each but now we'll be lucky to get $1400 even though almost a trillion dollars will go to fund progressive pet projects, special interest groups, cronies, donors, and of course foreigners.

Well even though the Democrats will have to use the unpopular reconciliation power to pass the bill (or anything from their far-left agenda), even though a national minimum wage hike has literally nothing to do with the budget measures the reconciliation power is supposed to address, even though wages and COVID relief have nothing to do with one another, even though the CBO has told us over and over that it would basically kill off 1.5 million jobs overnight, and even though many level-headed non-far-left Democrats don't want to do it this way, the progressive mob that controls the White House is trying their damnedest to make it happen.

And as they smugly sell us their lies about giving a damn about the little guy, about the working class, about small business, witness herein a rare moment of progressive honesty: they just don't want your business to succeed.

From what I’ve heard the $15 minimum wage will likely be cut from this bill. Also it wasn’t cut from $2000 to $1400, it’s the balance from the $600 that was just given recently.

My daughter has a business in North Florida. She has two employees cleaning apartments and pays them $9/hr. All I can say is that those two women will not have a job if she has to pay $15/hr.
    Good luck with that Democrats.
National minimum wage should be set appropriately for the poorest state then each state can raise it to their appropriate level.

One Dem says its out, another says its in, one day news talks like its other, the next like its back in, who knows but it should be removed. It has nothing to do with a relief bill or even a 'relief' bill, and to use reconciliation to pass something to huge is just fundamentally wrong from a parliamentary level.

BUT that $2k to $1.4 thing, well, all the while many Dems including Pres Biden and our two new GA Senators campaigned hard on a 3rd payment in the amount of $2000. Not a balance from any previous payment because that just wasn't how the legislation was written. They were always going to have to draft and pass a new bill once the new session of Congress had begun and they had campaigned on said bill containing $2000.

    .

More people are employed by small businesses than large corporations.

Covid lockdowns have already destroyed many small businesses.

When more small businesses start folding because of government mandated higher wages, the national unemployment rate will keep increasing.

It might be informative to note the minimum wage would increase incrementally over a period of years to fifteen dollars.

Then again, it’s more difficult to rile people up if you provide the details of legislation.

A “no” vote equates to zero relief. 1,400 bucks is a lot more than zero bucks by my math.

But consider these questions: Why should a minimum wage hike be included in a 'relief' bill? Why should a minimum wage bike be subject to a budget reconciliation measure in order to be passed?

MIT just completed a study on the $15 an hour minimum wage what they found was that $15 an hour was NOT A LIVING WAGE for a family in any state in the country but was a living wage for single persons in over half the states. They also pointed out that those not earning a living wage resorted to state paid welfare programs to supplement their inadequate wages. Meaning taxpayers are carrying the load when employers pay inferior wages.

U.K. Supreme court ruled that UBER and similar gig workers must be paid minimum wage and are entitled to other worker benefits such as paid vacations When will the USA come out of the dark ages?

If a company cannot afford to pay fifteen dollars an hour, how successful is it...

Good. Minimum wage should not be able to support a family. It's meant for kids and entry level labor positions. You have other problems if you are trying to feed a family of 4 on minimum wage.

Over 40% of workers were earning $15 an hour and lass prior to the economic collapse caused by Covid in early 2020.

Bingo. There will be many examples like this across the nation if such a minimum wage law were implemented. Many people would either be immediately or in the near future be out of a job.

There shouldn't be ANY minimum wage law at all. All a minimum wage law is is a price control, and price controls ALWAYS lead to shortages... in this case, a shortage of jobs.

Bingo! The destruction of small business is exactly what these tyrannical fascists want to happen. They want these people to become financially dependent upon them so that they can control them.

I'm Ok with some sort of minimum wage to keep people from taking advantage of kids like my a**h*le brother in-law did with me. But it shouldn't be a place where you feel you can raise a family.

Doesn't matter... it is still a price control all the same... it still leads to a shortage of jobs, all the same.

$1,400 bucks added to M1 (without any corresponding increase in wealth) results in inflation by my math (IOW, the dollar now has less purchasing power). A much better alternative to doing this would be to just open everything back up, per normal, and let people earn a living again, per normal.

Add in another question: Why should there even be a minimum wage law in the first place? It is a fascist policy that causes a shortage of jobs.

How does this study define "living wage"? That is completely subjective terminology and is different for everyone...

    See above.

Employers pay their employees what the job is worth (via price discovery). If the employee wishes to make more, then they need to make themselves worth more money to someone (learn a trade, gain education/experience, etc...)

Minimum wage laws are merely price controls, and price controls always lead to shortages, such as a shortage of jobs. If the minimum wage law demands a wage that is above the price discovery point, then the job will no longer exist... That means that the employee is now making $0/hr instead of $15/hr, or even the $11/hr that they were making before...

There is no such thing as the USA anymore... What was once known as the USA is now comprised of the SOA (States of America, no longer united under a federal constitution), the SOTNY (Socialist Oligarchy of the Territory of New York), the SOTC (Socialist Oligarchy of the Territory of California), and the SODC (Socialist Oligarchy of the District of Columbia).

So pretty much any business in the food industry (especially restaurants) is not successful?

    BINGO!

And minimum wage laws, which take these jobs away from these people, only hurt them since they can no longer get that job to gain that entry level experience and work ethic.

    So?

It wasn't caused by covid... It was caused by Democrat Kings & Queens (supposed to be Governors) who unconstitutionally (tyrannically) implemented lockdowns, mandates, and other business regulations.

Never stated it is “not” successful, but asked how successful.

You were implying that it wasn't a successful business if it couldn't pay their employees at least $15/hr...

The business that I work for is very successful, but it does not pay all of its employees $15/hr... Some of the jobs that some employees perform are simply not worth $15/hr...

If it is that successful, it could pay that much per hour. If they are not worth that much is it possible the minimum wage barometer is influencing that decision?
