How do they define a "living wage" and back in the early 1970's they only time I earned minimum wage I had to share an apartment. The minimum wages is not meant to provide a family with a "living wage" if you want to make more make your labor worth more and get a job that pays more. And I am for cutting welfare to able bodied workers because it drives up the cost of living.

In India the median wage is about $10 per hour. World median household income is 10k a year.

I guess we have it tougher here...

Or else they are violating the law. Did I really need to explain this to you?

Nope. But the IRS and other government agencies might.

Not if you are on a salary. Do you understand what the minimum wage is? I think you needed to find that out before jumping into this thread.

My research is flawless: you either never ran a business much bigger than a lemonade stand, or you ran a business without knowing what you were doing.

No idea what you're talking about. The ONLY problem that pertains to this thread is that the minimum wage is too low. And "we can't afford to pay more" is not a valid excuse.

I disagree that "the minimum wage is too low" is a problem. Grandma does too. She's a big girl and she can decide for herself how low is too low.

This sentence shows me who I'm arguing with and why it's not worth my time. Have a nice day.

When was it established that accepting a wage for your time meant that you should have a certain standard of living on that wage?

    I missed that.

Did you bother to read what I responded to? Obviously not. The poster propose a hypothetical in which a worker is unable to produce $15/hr at any job. You would have to be disabled for that to happen in reality, one would think.

Ooohh... Did I strike a chord on that one?

I don't give a crap! This thread is about the minimum federal wage, and what happens if a business can't afford it. I said I agree with the congressman who said this country doesn't need that type of businesses.

If you're going to jump into a discussion, the least you could do is read the title....

Ladies and gentlemen I give you the left.

Psst. Did you miss my post about the median global income?

Is half the population of the Earth disabled?

Meanwhile COSTCO just raised employee base pay to $16 per hour, from $15. At least one U.S. retailer is willing to share the wealth.

Costco tends to be in locations where higher wages are paid.

To these pseudo-intellectual academics, things like like payroll are nothing but lines on a poorly constructed spreadsheet. They have no concept of the full system-wide impact of pressing too hard into one metric, to say nothing of the human element which is that these are jobs they'd kill and people they'd impoverish with their moonbat implementations.

Yep... and only a fool still believes the goal is to help poor people. The goal is to hasten the crash of our economy so they can institute socialism ASAP. If one looks rationally at the probable outcomes of what the Dems are doing, there is no other endgame possible.
    vive la resistance!

I find a used snowblower on the side of the road. I bring it home, spend an hour cleaning the carb and getting the machine operational, and sell it for $100 bucks. Should that be illegal? No.

I find a used snowblower on the side of the road. I bring it home, buy a $10 carb, spend 15 minutes getting the machine operational, and sell it for $100 bucks. Should that be illegal? No.

I find used power equipment on the side of the road. I bring them home, pay someone $10 an hour to clean carbs, while I get the rest of the components operational. I sell them for $100 bucks each. Should that be illegal? No. But $15 minimum wage proponents seem to think so for some reason that they can't seem to articulate.

COSTCO knows raising the minimum wage to $15 will close thousands of small stores in rural and urban neighborhoods, thereby increasing COSTCO's market share and profits. By supporting higher minimum wages you are supporting the 1% and the growth of the wealth gap.

Oh... So actually think that the $15 per hour minimum wage is for the whole population of Earth?

BTW, did you hear how some Trump supporters believe that Trump will become President of the World on March 4? Did your above statement have something to do with that, by any chance? I'm sure it didn't, but I thought I'd make sure because... it just kinda reminded me.

Well technically they make 14000 Rupees in India, and 14000 is way more than 15 so maybe they'll be okay.

    Yup.

MINIMUM WAGE HIKE RUNS AGROUND IN SENATE DURING COVID AID DEBATE.

"The Senate parliamentarian has ruled that President Joe Biden’s minimum wage hike violates budget rules that could jeopardize" their ability to refuse to work with Republicans to shape the package that no longer has a great deal to do with COVID.

A measure that could cost 1.4 million jobs on top of the COVID job loses we are trying to unwind should require 60 votes.

Senate Budget Chair Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said he would seek to sharply raise taxes on large profitable companies that don't pay their workers $15 an hour.

Sure. Everybody in the world should have a minimum living wage. But you seem to actually think Biden could make it so.

This is why I have always said that being a Trump supporter and accepting reality are completely incompatible.

You've read everything I've posted to this thread and you think I'm arguing for Biden to institute a minimum wage? I take back what I wrote earlier. You need to fire your research team and hire a qualified subcontractor. Just make sure they hand their financials over to you so you can confirm they are all paid minimum wage. I would hate for you to get into big trouble.

Also make sure the new team knows that if they fail to produce at least $15 dollars an hour of value for you you're going to give them disability to make up the difference. Ohh, but that brings up an issue. To stay consistent, you should probably keep your current team, pay them $15/Hr of disability because they are producing zero value, and are clearly disabled. Boy, your research budget is gonna take a bit of a hit. I hope you don't end up on Khanna's radar.
