Nothing has changed except society. Life long racist LBJ saw that racism was on the decline. Since he couldn't count on the white racist vote, he needed the Democrat plantation of the south where blacks worked but couldn't vote to be transformed into the Democrat plantation of the inner city where he made a deal for them to vote Democrat and not work. Democrats are still the party of racists and Progressives have always been fascists emulated by Mussolini.

Back then the South was called the Solid South for their unwavering support of Democrats. LBJ said many times supporting Civil Rights was going to result in Republicans beating the crap out of Dems.

KKK terrorism drove somewhere between one million and two million Blacks out of the South. They went to big cities where they struggled to survive (a lot didn't), and thats where they still are.

The only time Congress got serious about this was the Sixties, and even then they weren't willing to spend much money on fixing it.

The reform wing of the Republican party, the liberal wing of the East Coast Establishment, wasn't all that liberal. Worse, it shrank steadily, starting in the 60s.It's been gone for maybe 30 years. The East Coast Establishment runs the Dem party now.

Stalin went to war against the Nazi's and both were socialists. FDR went to war against the Nazis even though Hitler based his concentration camps on the Democrat Plantation.
