Lots of people are leaving the car in the garage and riding one of these to work. Pretty cool actually but unfortunately most of them are being made in China. https://himiwaybike.com/products/hi...BiuMdzklFaXfYCXJKnwRePfjs2nuxfzBoCkdcQAvD_BwE
And here I thought the AGW crowd would be cheering this development. Just can't make these people crack a smile it seems.
As someone in their mid 60’s that cycles 6-7000 mi/yr in all weather, I would find no advantage or interest in an electric bike....to me an electric bike would obviate the advantages of the maintenance simplicity and dividends I receive to my health. Spend a bit of time in Denmark where cycling infrastructure is built into every aspect of the transportation network and where 70% of people commute to school, work and play, and ask people their opinion and I suspect few would be interested in spending for electric bikes. Many cities in the EU are embracing human powered transportation and closing some areas of cities to petrol powered vehicles except for certain permitted times (transporting goods and other large loads). Why? A huge list of economic and life quality benefits.
I'm pushing 70 and have been an avid mt biker since the things were first invented around 1980. Theres long steep climbs I used to make that I could just no longer do until I got an ebike. It's like I'm twenty years younger, great fun! Ebikes are huge sellers in Europe and America is getting on board as they enable commuters to bike to work without arriving soaked in sweat. They get their green points and some good exercise. What's not to like?
