I bought some LEDs for a project, and I don't really know how to power them. I soldered some leads onto one and hooked it up to a 6v (6.50v actual) lantern battery, and I think I saw it light briefly, then nothing (so I suspect I burned it out....). I also tried the same on a standard 9v battery, but still nothing. I'm guessing the batteries I tried have too high of an amperage? But I dunno. Also, I can't find any indication which solder point is '+' and which is '-' ...does it likely matter? The specs for these LEDs say it takes: If - Forward Current: 15mA(typical) - 20mA(max) Vf - Forward Voltage: 5V(min) - 9V (max) Reverse Voltage: -10V (what is 'reverse voltage'??) So do I need to add some resistors or something in line to drop the amperage, or what? ...I really don't know what I'm doing, but I do want to learn!
