One is too many but 180K is better than the 3 million predicted, ty President Trump.

So if Trump predicts 50 million dead....3 million is a success??

Trump himself said if they keep it under 200k then he will consider it to be job well done. As we’re already well on our way to that number will you agree with his assessment? Will the administration have done a bad job at that point?

    Edit: For context.

“During a news conference on Sunday, Trump said that a final US coronavirus death toll somewhere in the range of 100,000 to 200,000 people would indicate that his administration has “done a very good job.”

“You’re talking about 2.2 million deaths,” Trump said, referring to an Imperial College study that identified 2.2 million people as the high end of how many Americans could die if no measures were taken to slow the spread of coronavirus. “So if we can hold that down, as we’re saying, to 100,000, it’s a horrible number, maybe even less, but to 100,000, so we have between 100 [thousand] and 200,000, we altogether have done a very good job.””

Until there is a vaccine that works whatever the total deaths accumulate to is acceptable because there is no choice about it. Science has nothing that can do anything about it at present.

Sure. Certainly nothing can or could have been done in the mean time.

The probability low numbers exists but it would have taken Soviet style military patrols hemming in and isolating every county and tens of thousands of military checkpoints, plus elites who didn't break the rules.

Even with doing all that you're only delaying the inevitable if an effective vaccine is not found.

New Zealand has handled the pandemic quite well with a death per 1mil citizens of 105.

    So roughly 35k.

Even under the best case scenario, the infection and death rate would be higher than anyone wanted, as to acceptable, the use of the word is improper... they have already happened, therefore must be accepted.

Yes, at present science has nothing that can interfere with nature taking its course, like a vaccine or allopathic treatment.

Best case scenario, that would be a terrific number. But not realistic. New Zealand is an island, with just under 5M population. With a population density of 18 +/-, and the US with 36 +/- per Their economy has taken quite a hit also. https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/mone...ipes-billions-from-new-zealand-s-economy.html

New Zealand has a population density of +/- 18, the US 36 +/- per square KM. The logistics of preventing transmission at the same rate is not comparable.

    That's a false premise.

NY and NJ have been able to keep daily death totals in the area of 20 or less...after suffering horrendous totals initially

It CAN be done...but only if you try

If that's anything but like I would happily like to see you prove it.

If there were to be no vaccine that worked for thirty years the accumulated death total will still reach it's natural total or close to it, after having raged through early to take the easy pickings.

So you base your acceptance of this on hopelessness?

    30 years w/ no vaccine?

    That doesn't make sense.

No developed country will tolerate the damage a disease like Covid would do until you reach herd immunity.

    Dat's crazy talk.

New Zealand has fewer people in it than my city does. And it's an island.

I also think an effective vaccine will come before thirty years.
