Honestly people I've come to the conclusion the politicians have no idea what they are doing. They are destroying the economy... basically using a wrecking ball to swat mosquitos. They keep telling us "we have to..." then proceed with stricter lockdown bullshit, I'm sick and tired hearing them tell us "we have to.... to justify their destructive decisions that are demolishing the economy.... in the coming months we are going to see some people go through terrible losses, loss of jobs, homes, life's work & achievements, sweat and tears, built up from nothing broken down to rubble by careless ignorant politicians on tax payer wages who think they can lord it over the rest of us. I am getting angry now.

They should have locked down aged care and anyone retired or vulnerable, and let the rest of us trade. What they are doing is basically locking everyone in trying to earn a living, whilst refusing to change their own pay, forcing us to sit here and watch everything wither away.

We're going to get hit by a bolder.... the size of a mountain..... in the face. And the smug politicians are standing there giving us the coughing numbers of the day....like they want some sort of pat on the back. Btw make no mistake this pyramid of **** is at its core, the secret Federal Reserve's fault...the virus is merely a distraction.

What is the best thing is to do? Here's what I think. Shut up shop, fire your staff if you have any, cut your expenses as low as you can, invest whatever you have in gold, silver and bitcoin.... then batten down the hatches and wait... till it's over.... because it's highly likely you're going to find yourself in a position in the near future where you will have to do it anyway...

I think the best thing for you to do is leave the state & possibly the country SW. Obviously you don't want to be here and are profoundly unhappy with it. I hate seeing people so unhappy and there is an obviousl solution. Rather than just endlessly complain you should find a place better suited to you. Maybe western Queensland is more your sort of place, though I think Mississippi is probably a better fit. You'll love their 'freedoms' and their general worldview.

Well there's some seriously bad advice in that personal slag, what sort of idiot is going to buy a house now? Present company not necessary excluded, & besides borders are shut.

But since you're so free with your advice let me give you some too. When thousands and maybe even hundreds of thousands of people lose their homes, you may want to drop the "let them eat cake" attitude.

I'm with George Gammon on this one, I've never seen anything as deliberate as the destruction waged by governments in particular chairman Dan

Told you so. All of you.

If, in March we had actually locked down, nationwide, till we had effective testing and tracing in place we'd be mostly beyond this. Leadership failed at the top.If Trump had decided to be president instead of just run for president he's be sitting at 65% right now.

People who were in mortgage stress before COVID, are people who couldn't afford the houses they were trying to own. I hope you're not for real in expecting sympathy for them? I know too many working class people who've done it right by not living in homes they couldn't afford, to extend an iota of concern to these fools. They chose their predicament, no one made them extend themselves beyond retrieval.

FTR: if a couple earns around $120k a year between them, they should not have a mortgage greater than double that - ie $250k. This allows for either very fast payout (should be doable within 5 years, max) OR slow payout and high savings (which can then be invested).

pfft... so I'm suppose to be happy my holiday is cancelled otherwise I'm incapable of sympathy towards others...very simplistic outlook you have there cranky. Besides it was a special holiday... not like I have these every year. Fyi I was not aware of the cancellation (end September) or the hard lockdown when I posted the thread... check the dates then reconsider what you posted

Yeah I do have sympathy for them, I know of an airline pilot previously on $170k wage driving busses....in not so nice suburb, that has to suck. And what about the kids, they are suffering under adults suffering.... my son told me their discussion in virtual classroom " what is your greatest fear" kids reckon it's "being 40 or 50 and unemployed" because they watch parents go through it. They feel what the parents feel

Besides who can afford a mortgage of less than $250k in this housing market... only previous home owners, anyone new to the market has to be a trust fund baby or put up with massive debt.... thank you globalism

I think it used to be two and a half or three times earnings which was allowed. That day is gone with neo liberalism and people's homes, which used to be their place of refuge now being used in an extortionate way.

Not sure of the situation in Australia though come to think of it I do now remember watching a program on the massive rise in house prices to rediculous levels which seems to be a corner of neo liberalilsm. Everyone needs a home. It is argued a home is a human right. What is the rental price? I know in the US so high and forever going higher that the number of people including professionals now living on the streets and soon to become tens of millions more is epidemic. In the UK the Government used to give landlords compensation for putting in place rents which the people could not afford - maybe they still do.

Homes now are a way of sending the massess back to serfdom.

If people desperate for a home while they believed they could still get one were offered a mortgage they could not affort then clearly they were being set up by the people who offered them that mortgage who should be sued.

If people cannot affort to pay their rent/mortgage because of restrictions on their ability to work created by Government in light of Covid 19 then it is up to that Government to make the situation right.

So let's just try using a HUMAN metric to measure the economy, shall we?

Australia has 25.5 million people, a mere 17k cases and a paltry 208 deaths thanks entirely to taking this Pandemic SERIOUSLY.

Germany has 84 million people, 212k cases and 9,226 deaths thanks entirely to taking this Pandemic SERIOUSLY.

The UK has 68 million people with a whopping 305k cases and an appalling 46,201 deaths thanks entirely to adopting an ASININE "herd immunity" attitude towards the Pandemic.

The USA has 331 million people and a massive 4.8 MILLION cases resulting in a GENOCIDAL 158,386 deaths thanks entirely to REOPENING the ECONOMY regardless of the LIVES that MUST be SACRIFICED to the Almighty Dollar.

Just imagine how much HAPPIER the OP would be living in the USA where the ECONOMY matters way MORE than her life does?

You can't put a dollar value on happiness SW. You will always find a buyer if you are sufficiently motivated. It is clear how profoundly unhappy you are here, so I encourage you to leave for your own mental health. It sounds like your business is in danger of folding, so there really isn't much holding you here. Start making plans now. There are already some places you can travel to, and by the time you are ready to move most borders will be open again.

What is is you nationalists like to say - 'love it or leave it'. You've done it once. Only one logical course of action really.

I will admit that my initial choices of possible places to move were not well thought out. Having given it more consideration I'm thinking Iceland or Russia might be more demographically/politically appealing. Maybe Belarus or even Poland or Hungary might fit the bill. Certainly better suited to you than Victoria. You will never really be happy here.

People who think the economy is more important than saving lives should nominate which member of their family they are happy to kill off for the sake of money. Then, whenever someone whose family considered them more important than money dies from COVID we can kill off the nominated family member so that the person who put the economy first understands the consequences of their actions.

Of course, that won't happen, so these people just treat the dead as an abstraction to be sacrificed on the altar of money.

No one's POSSESSIONS mourn the passing of their owner at the funeral.

As someone who has experienced significant loss of material possessions more than once in my lifetime I have never formed any attachment to them nor used them as any measure of myself.

What matters is the quality of the relationships I have with my nearest and dearest.

Everything else is incidental as far as I am concerned.

Australia has done a commendable job at keeping people safe during what is definitely a serious health threat. They have placed themselves in an excellent position to have a booming economy once the threat has been mitigated with an effective vaccine. Whatever short term pain is occurring it is negligible compared to nations like Brazil and America. The worst aspect of reopening the economy too soon was that it destroys the trust that We the People have in our government's ability to protect our nation. We deserve better and I suspect that is going to be apparent in the November results.
