The tactic employed in Wisconsin is not limited to Wisconsin, it's done in just about every red state, noting this doesn't mention a practiced called 'voter caging', doesn't include reducing polling places in poor neighborhoods, not fixing broken machines in poor neighborhoods, over purging voter registration rolls with methods that disproportionately target blacks, (such as "Interstate Crosscheck" ) etc.

    https://www.gregpalast.com/wisconsin-eats-its-young/

University of Wisconsin professors Michael DeCrescenzo and Kenneth Mayer wanted to find out about the mysterious massive drop in 2016 turnout. They conducted an extraordinary survey, contacting thousands of non-voters directly. They asked each registrant why they did not, or could not, vote.

They discovered that 28,000 citizens in just two cities, Milwaukee and Madison, were blocked by the ID requirement. (This 28,000 excludes the majority of voters without proper ID who did not vote for other reasons, such as long lines — or who just didn’t give a damn about voting.)

Some folks did in fact have the ID required, but the law is so complex and little-explained that thousands thought they did not have acceptable ID. One in 11 Black voters did not have the right ID, but more than twice that many thought they didn’t, so they did not show up at the polls.

Take a look at this chart from the University of Wisconsin study. The ID law was three times as likely to block African Americans as whites.

The Black vote in Wisconsin statewide fell by a mind-blowing 24.5 percent between 2012 and 2016 when the ID law hit. The loss of Black and student votes due to the ID law cost at minimum 61,274 votes, almost three times Trump’s plurality. And that estimate of the loss is low. I’ve left out the Latinx voters who are growing near to the size of the Black population. Any way you calculate it, the show-me-your-papers ID tactic won Wisconsin, not the voters.

Looks like more evidence of just how inherently rotten and corrupt many right-wingers are.

That walker was a stone-cold republican POS...

    What's so hard to understand

If they are too lazy or irresponsible enough not to have a proper ID I have no sympathy for them. How do they register to vote if they cannot properly ID themselves and where they live?

Your only argument is that they are lazy. That's a vacuous declaration which doesn't counter the data I presented.

That doesn't look like it's that complicated.

    What am I missing?

I used my ID twice today, which is quite rare, but it was right there in my back pocket just like usual.

I'm curious how long I could go without an ID, when I had a close relative in the hospital I needed it daily for 3 weeks, but I'm sure I've also gone 30-60 days without it coming up, but not sure how far I could stretch it out. Would be an interesting test.

I actually traveled for work last week and checking into the hotel had to show my ID, what's the big deal? I have a prescription I need to get refilled next couple of days and I know for this one it requires I show them an ID, a minor controlled medication. And all the inflated "estimates" about people who do not have a proper ID and can't seem to get one.

yes, like I mentioned earlier in this or another thread, the examples used by the anti ID crowd always seem to be the old lady in her 90's that was born in a rural area by a midwife and the birth cert was never issued, and of course the person that can't get transportation to or afford the $10 to get an ID at the local dmv. IMO those are nothing more than outliers and likely only represent at best 1 or 2% of the people that don't have ID.

My solution was to perhaps give the local election official in coordination with the DMV some kind of realistic leeway to handle the 90 year old that never had a birth cert, and crack down on any officials that take that to the extreme and just start passing out exemptions by the hundreds.

I lost my DL a few years back and It took me about maybe 45 minutes including drive time to get it replaced for $10, the net positive experience was that I got a new photo! my old one make me look at bit like a terrorist, terrible pic!

Anyone being turned down at a polling place can cast a provisional ballot and if enough provisional ballots are cast it could change the election the have ample opportunity to go and have the matter cleared up and their voted counted. Of course they have plenty of time to do this BEFORE the election. And again I always ask, how did they get registered without an ID in the first place. ID's are free for low income.

I recall once in some court decision I can no longer find but having to do with a ballot the judge ruled that the constitution does not require the voter be coddled by the government but assumes the vote will take the care and concern to be properly registered and familiar with the candidates and issues BEFORE the show up to vote.

And since "blacks are always targeted by police", wouldn't you need an ID everyday so police wouldn't stack on that kind of charge when they did their daily stops of ALL black people in America?

Its amazing how stupid white leftist think of blacks in America. Seems like the same thing they thought of them before the supposed "party swap".

the list is long and filled with legit reasons of why an ID is part of daily normal life activities.

Hotels, car rentals, driving, visiting my local hospital, open a bank account, cashing a check, buying liquor, applying for benefits, visiting a doctor or getting blood work done, picking up my Rx, flying on a plane, buying a firearm, and countless other things.

I honestly can't imagine someone making it through adult life without any proof of identification.

I guess I could just identify as Princess Quinsella Banana-hammock and see how long I could run with that before someone decides not to take my word for it, I expect not very long.

I wonder how many blacks that get pulled over by cops don't have IDs? From many of the left, they claim police do it all the time, yet, no criminal is without an ID.

So a Wisconsin driver's licence is too complicated?

I'm suspicious of this study already.
