If places like California are completely locked down, then where are people catching COVID?

Isn't there a way that the Federal government can take over the states in certain ways during a national crisis?

No, but I have friends who do. They inform me that the people there almost uniformly have the same tender regard for communists that Joe McCarthy did.

Taiwanese tend to high intelligence. They also wear masks very readily even without a pandemic. Like the Japanese and (to a lesser extent) the Koreans it's almost a regular fashion item with them.

While obviously no one can protect against all possibilities, we can still do risk assessment and reduction. As a truck driver I am at higher risk for an accident. So I take steps to keep myself safer. Just like I take steps to keep myself safer from the virus. In the end, if death was all I had to worry about, I'd be more, "eh". But there are worse things than death. I mean, if you want to risk lifelong pain and disfigurement, that's on you. You just don't seem to be accounting for such in your words. It's you either live or die.

That picture has no context. What tells me that this is not pre-COVID?

It is very common for hospitals to run at 85-95% during cold and flu season. Now they're trying to scare the heck out of people when capacity is running 70-80%. It certainly is a numbers game, with the emphasis on "game".

The only time entire communities should be trying to stay home if at all possible is when and if their local/regional hospital capacity is crunched. People would do that naturally with local information, not entire state shutdowns.

Our system is indeed predicated on most people being well so they can work or be in school, if they aren't retired, and the fact is that throughout this plandemic, most people have remained healthy and well. Most "cases" are asymptomatic. Our system is also predicated on having the economy running without any large gaps.

I'm sure they will. Communist methods work wonderfully at control. Good luck with the following economic devastation.

Not constitutionally. At the extreme possibility, a president could declare martial law, where the military takes over all civilian functions. That requires a vote from Congress though, so it wouldn't happen unless we were under some major catastrophic emergency, which we are not.

No matter what justification one came up with, in many states doing so would be very counterproductive.

So you do risk assessment and reduction. That is well and fine. You are a truck driver.....I admire that. However, do you relish the idea of say, school teachers telling you how to keep yourself safer while driving a truck? How 'bout if they mandate how you live? I live in the mountains. Not a lot of population density here. I don't like the idea of some "metrosexual" telling me I am wrong and how to live. We are all individuals with individual responsibilities. This is why I oppose strong central government mandates. Trump honored the individual states for that reason.

There's always that grey area where your rights end where my nose begins ... do you have the right to cough on me and give me a virus? Do you have
the right to go into a private business without your pants on? Is it abridging your personal space to require you to wear clothes in public? If the
government can require you to wear pants, why can't it require you to wear a face mask? Does the government have the right to quarantine someone
    who is carrying a virus?

I don't think you can draw absolutes when it comes to personal freedoms because they so often impact the freedoms of other individuals. That's why
    we have courts.

I honor laws and restrictions levied by private businesses. Let me ask you this.....should laws apply equally to every citizen? Why are small family owned business shut down in mainly left wing states while the large coorporate owned companies (big box stores) remain open and do a whopping business? These small businesses have already invested in complying with laws at great costs but they are shut down in many left wing states.

Let me tell you why, Daniel. This left wing ideology you are toying with wants to drive small, especially "family owned" business to oblivion. The same virus puts all businesses at risk! The left wing governments feel a drive to consolidate POWER! That is why. Individuals are a pain in the ass to them. They use the China Virus as a tool to do this as they did in the election. (oh by the way Daniel.....will you even listen to the cases that will be presented by a dozen or more Senators and over a hundred House members? or did the left wing media convince you they are right?)

So leftists in America feel they are in control now. They think now is the time to change America for good.....shake it from it's foundation as Chuck Schumer has suggested. I agree that personal freedom comes with personal responsibility no doubt, but laws have to be applied equally. Fear is not to be used as a tool. Wonder how they will use China Virus as a tool to do away with the 2nd amendment?......Oh, they can use other means as well but we will fight!

It has the opposite effect. If you control outbreaks when and as they arise, you massively reduce economic impacts.

Can you get in your car and go to the corner grocery? Post Office? Walk around the block? Then you aren't "locked down" are you?

    AND

    Sigh.

In the OP it says "places LIKE California."

Whether or not it is California is irrelevant. Stupid don't stop at the state line.

If you're happy with complying to Maoist home arrest and just letting them get away with it, then who am I to judge you? Personally, I'll stick with my western principles of civil liberties.
