“When school starts both at the high school level and in college and universities, we think we’re going to see an explosion of cases in September that will far surpass what we saw after Memorial Day,” Osterholm said. “And that this is just going to continue increasing, getting higher and higher, in terms of numbers.”

Infectious disease expert Michael Osterholm predicts “an explosion” in new cases starting next month.

“We believe the choice is clear,” Osterholm and Kashkari wrote. “We can continue to allow the coronavirus to spread rapidly throughout the country or we can commit to a more restrictive lockdown"

As I said yesterday, the Fall is going to be tons of fun. Let me add there will also be tons of dead bodies. Order your refrigerated trucks soon.

Makes me wonder if this is more than just science-denying anti-masker pandering. What if these re-open crusades are designed to pair with the necessary limitations on vote-by-mail? What if its all a ploy to get as many people sick as possible knowing that the harder hit areas will usually be left voting and thus mitigation restrictions and fear of infection might cause Dem voters to stay home?

Again, cases in of themselves is not a bad thing. I get a case of the flu, I get over it, this is a similar story with a vast majority of Covid cases. They get Covid, they get over it.

Can these infectious disease experts actually tell us something worth listening to, or are they going to continue being drama queens?

Covid is only going to empower voting by mail, not kill it. Most Covid patients will be alive to vote anyway.

Someone trying to keep from losing their business wouldn’t call this a “re-open crusade.” Nor would anyone who wants the governor to stay out of their lives.

Vote-by-mail will kill itself and the USPS will drive the getaway car, err mail-truck. I bet we'll be sitting in January 2021 still fighting over mail-in ballots with neither side accepting the outcome and coast-to-coast rights over "election fraud". Our voting system is absolute garbage. We vote too early, we vote too late, we vote with too much inconsistency, and we vote without verification.

Side note - I cant wait to see what new and interesting way Florida comes up with to f' up the election this time.

Seems like a couple million living Americans might have a better ring to it.

Seems like you don't have a degree in epidemiology, or common sense.

Our voting system could see some easy fixes such as making sure Election Day was a holiday, and people began voting in August. I usually always have my ballot in by early October. Debates don’t really have meat to actually chew on anymore, nor does it look like it will bring Americans to either side of the table.

Common sense begins at thinking for oneself, rather than letting the government think for you. It’s not a hard concept to grasp of letting those who wish to wear a mask to wear it and to leave those who don’t, don’t but not bar us from buying groceries.

It's my impression that is part of the concern. COVID-19 isn't like the flu because it appears to cause long-term damage to the body's systems. That's not true with the "regular" flu we all get.

I also believe the sheer number of people who are asymptomatic is cause for worry because it's impossible to identify them and possibly quarantine them. Add in how often college kids have to move around campus, dorms, friends and family, the implications are huge.

I think we're already seeing this in some of the high schools that have already started. There is no point in opening just to have to shut down due to it spreading too fast.

I've been pondering this since the first SIP.

    What are the best options?
    Who is doing it "right"?
    How do we get there?
How do we keep our "kids" safe?
How do we handle it so it doesn't derail their college education?

    No easy answers.

Its a quite easy concept to grasp.

The problem is that it's a bit lacking in the sanity dept.

Yes to voting holiday, NOOOOOO to early voting. Voting should take place throughout ONE day and be in person only, exceptions made for those serving overseas.

The way we are doing things is absurd. Might as well not even have candidates on a ballot anymore since nothing seems to matter but the letter that precedes their name. Lets just bring this joke of an election system to its punchline and enact lifetime vote passes like a damned amusement park or something. Go to the DMV and sign up to have your vote cast for any Dem or Repub on any ballot you qualify for in perpetuity.

    Just stop

160,000 people will NOT "get over it". That's more people than died in the atomic bomb drops

1500 "failed to get over it" just yesterday

    See if this sounds familiar.

Israeli Data Show School Openings Were a Disaster That Wiped Out Lockdown Gains

Netanyahu’s decree that the nation’s entire school system would reopen was a political flourish to signal everything was under control.

You sound pleased. That's ghoulish of you..... so, if, and it's a big if. IF all of the folks socially distance, and they mask. why wouldn't they be safe to return? It's good enough to get you into the walmart, or the pot store...

This is my biggest concern in all of it. And the issue that many are not acknowledging. We are seeing more and more information of the long term effects of this disease for the survivors - including a shortened life span. People in their twenties shrug off that fact, as we all did with respect to long term implications of smoking and sun damage. But at my age, it makes a huge difference.

Exactly. It's easy to feel invincible at their ages. It's impossible to feel immortal at our ages. I really thing a key component of moving forward has to include some heavy campaigning to make the "kids" understand - this is NOT a laughing matter.

    I sound sarcastic.

Pro baseball has the money to buy the best, and they couldn't get it to work.

Cash strapped schools are going to get hammered.

300K+ dead, for the year, is not a delusion, but then your grasp on reality is tenuous at best.

Uninformed denialists. Incredibly dangerous uniformed denialists who feel the need to lazily trivialize Nazism because it is to much to ask to treat something like that with any kind of gravity when it makes a much better childish political football.

I don't think we're supposed to engage in personal insults, but when it's all you've got, I guess it's all you've got.

And you seem to be struggling with what the COVID Hoax is all about.
