I started this post due to
Bowerbirds allegations that America supplies weapons Arming Drug Cartels, this is simply not true, those weapons when they do end up in Cartel hands are indirectly aquired.
Example, from otherwise law abiding (dead) citizens.

    Mexican gun control
    Mexican Drug Cartels
    Mexican Criminals
    Mexican Citizens

This is to summarize a personal Investigation by myself spanning 5 years into Mexico's gun control.
Most points presented are easily verified.

Mexico has for it's Citizens very strict gun control, one Government run gun store for all of Mexico.
If a Civilian wants a gun, a handgun, limited to a Glock model __
Chambered for .380 acp, no Military Calibers for Civilians as
.45 acp is considered a Military caliber.

Criminals in Mexico are Armed with a wide variety of weapons to include AKs of various types.
Criminals are affiliated to Gangs and Cartels or independents.

Grey area criminals are otherwise law abiding Mexican Citizens tired of oppression by Government, Police, Cartels, assorted Outlaws.
These people buy Arms on the black market, Arms smuggled in from the U.S. by Mexicans often obtaining these ordinary guns in private sales as legitimate Americans.

Important details, Mexico's Government requested a huge assortment of Military Arms, Vehicles, Aircraft etc.... Logistic support through M.A.P., Military Aid Program in the War against Drugs / Cartels, with help from U.S. Agency D.E.A
This Equipment often being sold by corrupt Generals to the Cartels..

In Mexico, a very corrupt Nation, you cannot drive a produce truck from one City to another without paying bribes to many Police Officers at check points.

Any business must pay bribes to obtain business licenses to operate in Mexico.

    Drugs in Mexico ?
Cocaine starts out in Columbia, in the Mountains it is consumed as tea, mate de coca, to combat fatigue from high altitudes and less oxygen.

The Columbian Cartels purchase weapons from China, Russia, and other sources, their main supplier is the Columbian Governent acting as Middleman.
Standard includes AK machine guns, not American semiautomatic rifles costing approximately $ 600 U.S. as in Medellín, a genuine Kalishnikov Ak-47 could had at one time for a crisp $ 100 dollar bill, a few magazines and ammo.
    A real bargain in 1987.
A semiautomatic AK-47 then cost $250 in the U.S. along with a Kilo of high grade uncut Cocaine for a platry price, selling in the U.S. for $ 60,000.

Truth is the Drug Cartels in both Columbia and Mexico were never Armed with American Civilian Arms for one simple reason,
    Cost !

Both Cartels have purchased Arms from direct sources to include Corrupted Russian Military both active and retired.
Corrupt Government Officials of every Country South of the United States of America.

Guns from America, black market guns are very expensive and purchased mostly by otherwise law abiding citizens now criminals by illegally obtaining firearms on the black market.

To sum up, Mexico's Government is corrupt, why ? Money issues, not getting paid for months at a time, and Drug Cartels offering a Kings ransom relatively speaking in return for diverse favors, ie allowing the Cartels free reign in Mexico.

This has been reported by the U.S. - D.E.A. as classified intelligence.

    Solution ?

Direct Military Action to stabilize the Nations involved and eliminate trafficking of both guns and Drugs.
Even though our own war in drugs has been an abysmal failure as well as the failed war on Drug labs by combined Military actions of D.E.A. and Armies of the Involved Countries.

    End of post.

Nobody ever claimed it did, it has all been a failure as I was able to observe.

However, as it now stands, the situation between Mexico and the U.S. will not be fixed by a WALL.

The only true solution are stable Governments South of the United States of America's borders.

I hear they have very few fertility clinics. Apparently something in Mexico is working well.

I have believed for some time now that we should make the border a national security matter and hold Mexico accountable for illegals and and cartels among others ....I'd give them La Raza in reverse

I spent time in the U.S. Border Patrol, and served out of the Naco, AZ station just outside of Bisbee, AZ. That was the same station Brian Terry served out of, though he was there after my time. When Fast and Furious came to light, the chatter among the agents was that maybe, FINALLY, the ATF would get the comeuppance it so richly deserved. We were appalled at the way the media and the Obama apologists bald-faced lied and turned themselves into knots to try and twist the narrative to cover it up.

The whole commentary about how many guns go south from the United States is a lie. The statement that "90% of the guns the ATF traced for the Mexican government were found to come from the U.S." is based on the fact that the Mexicans only ask the ATF to trace serial numbers if they already have a pretty good idea the gun came from the U.S. Many of the guns are actually guns the U.S. gave to the Mexican government to buttress the Mexican law enforcement and drug enforcement armories, but the agents of those agencies are so corrupt they either sell the guns to the cartels themselves or they're already cartel members using those guns to help defend their buddies in the cartels.

Otherwise, the cartels arm themselves from the myriad of Soviet-era, military grade firearms that were brought into South America during the height of the Communist influence.

Why would a cartel operative go through the hassle of buying a semi-auto only firearm with a 16 inch barrel for $1500 when he can buy a select-fire, military grade assault rifle for pennies? It's all so idiotic....

Mexico's Disturbingly Heavily Armed Drug Cartel (Video)

This looks like government military forces in the video. But it's not; it's an organized crime group.

Mexican CJNG cartel shows military-style convoy with armored vehicles, Citizen Free Press, July 18, 2020

The government in Mexico is so corrupt in many places, and the local police in some provinces try to avoid the cartel groups altogether.

It's no wonder Mexicans often have trouble telling who the real police forces are.
